The only pokemon I levelled up to 50 right away was Melmetal. Due to the mystery box, Its like a never ending source of Meltan (XL) candy.

Amen, Amen, Amen!!!!! Waiting until after an event or raid boss cycle is THE best way to maximize efficiency when powering up featured pokemon. Use events as a way to build as much of a pool possible, then assess afterwards to power up your best characters. Saves so much dust and resources.

Great tips! I've made the mistake of lacking patience plenty of times. But also my main focus is the functionality; a almost perfect pokémon can do lots for me as a raid attacker etc during the 2 years time it might take to encounter a fully perfect one. So for top tier attackers I'll gladly power up a 98%

A month ago I got a Perfect Groudon and Recently I got a Perfect Moltres. I was so happy to know that they're very useful Pokémon and I could use them to their fullest. I got their Legacy moves to maximize their potential and now I can't wait to max them out completely.

One hard thing...saving up all the Mewtwos in this current raid season for the XL in special trading. It's worth way more to save them for doing that but in doing so, you gotta make sure your storage depletion is consistent since you can only trade two at a time every day. Silver lining about this baby steps tactic is by the end of the season, if you did even light to moderate raiding, you'll have good enough of an XL candy pile to power up a Mewtwo or potential Shadow version to L50. As long as you trade daily for now.

Additionally once you have the core of about 25 each league you can compete and stack dust. Additionally in 2 years hit level 47 and that is done by grinding and powering up to raid effectively. You can beat any raid boss with three people at that point or four so I think that is important

Billy can’t say it enough, we gotta be patient! I tend to not power up Pokémon that often. I only have three level 50s and I’m currently sitting on almost 7 mil stardust. I like the lucky trade idea, I’m def gonna keep that in mind from now on. Thanks for the tips!

@@shreyaschaudhary8901 when you get a lucky trade the IVs on the Pokémon will have a minimum of 12/12/12 so your chances of receiving a Pokémon with high IVs are better. Also it takes less stardust to power up Pokémon.

In my experience I’ve gotten 2 random lucky trades and then one guaranteed lucky trade from becoming lucky friends with a friend who lives in my city. I don’t trade very often because lots of my friends who play live nowhere close to me.

You are 100% correct about waiting to max up your best mons, but what a fun-killer this game is, to make us suppress our excitement because Stardust & XL candy is such purposefully expensive grinds & rare commodities. They NEED to introduce bottle cap / Grit Dust items so that we can always have a correction course if we power something up that "could be better"

Good tips however I just finished getting my 84% iv shadow mewtwo to level 50, but a good example of what you was talking about is recently when groudon was out I went in and raided a bunch to get the 296 xl candy for my 98% iv but in the process I got a shiny 98% iv that I will power up to 50 when it is relevant to do so

@@roguenoodles128 The thing is that the game is incredibly punishing if you don't get a hundo. Would you want to upgrade a legendary that is 98%? Probably not because XL is just way too rare even though technically it doesn't matter. As Paul said, they likely prefer making more money from selling more raid passes than QoL improvements.

Patience is definitely key. I celebrated hitting 5 million by maxing one of my hundo Mewtwos. Felt so good! Took a shinety eight and shadow to level 40 too! So much fun using them in these raids right now.

When I started playing again, I was upgrading them just to get the Pokémon on my Pokédex. Simply just wasting stardust, which I could have been saving for upgrading them when I caught a good one. Then I watched your RU-vid videos, your advice really helped me conserve the stardust to upgrade better Pokémon. What are you talking about?? Evolving a Pokemon only uses candy. Not stardust. Powering up a Pokemon has nothing to do with the Pokedex.

Well! Psycho thanks for realizing where I went wrong with my comment. Im human I make mistakes. I used my power ups to get some Pokémon that were like 2 star or 1 star not knowing I was using them improperly. Especially evolving them & then using stardust to upgrade there powers. If it wasn’t for Billy I would still be doing the game wrong. Thanks psycho for noticing where I went wrong.. Have a bless day

I would do shadows before nonshadows. For Mewtwo, I'm saving my XL candy for my shadow Mewtwo, then by the time mega Mewtwo comes out (which, I'm thinking we'll probably wait 1+ years for), I'll probably have a hundo to power up by then. For Garchomp, I only powered a hundo to level 50. For Tyranitar, I got my shadow to level 50 first, probably going to wait on the hundo until mega Tyranitar comes out.

I had the exact scenario you described happen. I had a 96 shiny mewtwo and a 98. I powered the 96 shiny up, kept raiding, got a hundo about 30 raids later, and now I’m out of stardust to power up the hundo

A remote raid pass that is roughly 70c already gives you 1000 stardust whether you win or lose a raid; so technically you can buy stardust for no effort. Assuming you won a raid and caught the legendary, you get a total of 1100 star dust on the minimum side while also getting 3 guaranteed XL candies. When somebody spends over 50$ to get enough XL candies, you already have additional 100,000 stardust and a lot of rare candies in the process. This game is already so pay to win that it would not really make much of a difference if they simply sold stardust and candies in the shop. They don't do that, not because it would be 'unfair' but because of the potential drop in people's engagement with the game. They just stand to gain more when people engage a lot and there are multiple levels of currency conversion which becomes hard to keep track of.

I have been pretty patient with Mewtwo, only using my Shadow Mewtwo that is lvl 40. I have about 500 XL candies now, and several 98% Mewtwos, and last night got a shiny 98% Mewtwo. So NOW it will be tough not to spend the 440k dust (it was weather boosted) to power that up to lvl 50. Still waiting on the hundo.

Agree with all said! But sometimes you need to treat yourself. :) I got a wild shundo Bulbasaur on Classic ComDay. Needless to say, she got evolved (Frenzy Plant yeah!) and powered to lv 40 then and there. Even if I traded for one as good - she's special. Other than that, I'm pretty stingy with the dust. :) Good advice.Thanks!

Since I already powered up 5 Mewtwo (1 shiny, 1 shadow, and 3 regular) to level 40 all with a 2nd move about a year or more ago, I find it silly not to power up the shadow and shiny up to level 50. Sure I could get a better IV shiny Mewtwo but I already spent like 350,000 stardust to get to level 40 with a 2nd charge move so I figure I might as well use that one.

For me personally, I dont really trust Shadows. I've only ever powered up one Machamp, my (fairly bad) Mewtwo and now a Tyranitar to like Level 30-35 and I don't think I will go beyond that if I dont get something like a hundo or 98%, as Niantic could change the system anytime and they might not deal these 20%(?) extra damage anymore. I'm glad I've finally reached my 3 million stardust and I really dont wanna go below 2.5 ever again. 😂 All in all you are right, patience and powering up what you NEED in this moment is definitely key - ALTHOUGH I think we shouldn't take this game TOO serious if its really one of our favourite Pokemon/Shinys ever... My first ever maxed out Level 50 was a 98% Shiny Infernape and I really worked for it, too (traded as many chimchars as I could get for the XL etc.), and even though I dont really use him outside of Rocket Battles and I KNEW he isn't that good in Pokemon Go, I would never regret it because I just love him. That being said though, I have more than enough good counters for raids already, for a legendary I wouldn't have had enough candy anyways and shadows are too expensive in my opinion. (I might do a shadow Infernape if they ever release it, though😂)

My main team I use for master league is a rank 7 mewtwo powered to lvl 40, rank 2 garchomp powered to about lvl 45 and a lvl 50 rank 5 melmetal. All have double moves unlocked. Still have over 3 mil in stardust. I've actually been spending a lot of dust on various great league and ultra league teams as well. This is my only master league team ATM.

During TL40 I maxed out and double moved all hundo legends, from the first Virizion to the 6th Mewtwo. Now I’m just focusing on meta mon unless I get a shundo.

Sometimes, you only get one Mewtwo after catching one in a remote raid after failing to catch it in local raids despite using golden raspberries and hitting excellent throws. At least my Mewtwo is 3*, if not perfect (87%). So now I've powered it up. It came with Shadow Ball so I taught it a 2nd attack and Elite TM'd Psystrike. I have not regretted it at all because it's been amazing in Master League.

They need to make stardust easier to get. Should have more regular 2 and 3x events and more boosted pokemon in the wild. The game is just too much of a grind for more casual players

Nah. You do not NEED a lvl 50. You can effectively play this game without ever leveling up your mons past 30. Even level 25 is effective in raids. Unless you're trying to play pvp which imo isn't for casuals anyway. Or you could just grind anything but masters cup.

Anyone who truly plays the PVP wouldn’t say no to 3x star as a vet it gets ridiculously crazy to have to give double moves to all your Pokémon with the cups constantly changing and the meta-constantly changing not to mention some Pokémon like Lucario cost like 50,000 for a secondary move unless you get them out a baby form so yes there’s a lot of RNG and it should be a lot easier to make your Stardust I’ve been playing this game since 2016 and I barely struggle to get over 5ook

I worked hard to get to 4mil stardust, then dropped to 3mil. I powered up my first ever shiny Groudon to level 40. Next powered up some counters for MewTwo, including my 2 shadow Mewtwo's to 40. I don't think I will be getting a legendary to leven 50 anytime soon. I am happy with less than perfect hitting level 40, but I am not going to drop below 3mil stardust again.

I've done 20 MewTwo raids, which is the most raids I've done for any pokemon, I have a weather boosted 15/14/15. Pretty sure this one is getting maxed out in two years when I have enough resources.

Really surprised you didn’t talk about powering up your buddy Pokémon while it has the buddy boost. Happened to me with Togekiss so lucky it wasn’t a legendary cost me 3 extra XL Pokémon while powering up. Didn’t do the math but took it from 41 because of the buddy boost to 48.5 . I’m sure I lost atleast 30-40 xl candies so dumb that Niantic doesn’t realize that. Checked on my friends account and it’s 100% true they overcharge per power up if you have a buddy boost

Nice! I followed a earlier tip of yours regarding stardust and that was to never go below 1 million. Just in case a nee raid boss comed out and you need to emergency powerup a Pokemom. I consider myself a casual grinder - as in someone that grinds hard compared to casuals haha. I hit 2.8 mill stardust for the first time in probably years and today it went back down to 1.1 mill after some powerups! I did my Mega Venusaur 100% (i hahe zero good grass attackers so worth it) + some XLs for PvP andy hundo Groudon. My point is, telling myself that 1mill is like 0 has helped a lot so appreciate your tips and tricks man!

Agreed mate. I never powered up my pokemon until I got to level 33 when I started getting max level wild pokemon and I only started maxing out at level 45 when there was a task titled "max 3 pokemon". Having a stardust floor helps a lot. I keep the base as 3mil and when it climbs up to 4 I powerup a pokemon. Powering up is very addictive and fun so keeping a floor helps you have enough for emergency while using the excess to enjoy the powerups

Lol, same here. I used to power up every meta 3 stars that i had once had the dust. Since his tips about the treshold not too long ago, didnt spent a single dust and 2-3 weeks i hit 2 mil stardust, also for the first time lol. Now i'll never go below 1.5 mil

Your videos are SO helpful!! I started playing with a few of my family members a few months ago. Since you spoke about planning ahead and about stardust in other videos, I focused on having plenty of dust and candies to have a set of 6 level 30+ tyranitars! I have a hundo Beldum, Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Kyogre (and some others) that I'm holding on to power up later. I don't need to use them right now, so there's no point in powering them up. For Beldum, I hope for another CD or some other event to get the CD move. I save my stardust for eventual random trades during GO Fest Berlin or for stuff that are more relevant right now, and if I need to power up something for pvp.lol

saving SD is harder for the typical less lvled trainers since they only have a ltd # of appropriate attackers with decent IVs. takes a while to accumulate decent IVs for each type and then another while to make sure they're in fighting form for raids. at least that was my struggle until i hit lower lvl 40s bc anytime i accumulated some SD i still needed to power up different typings. spent most of last yr being mindful of SD so that now i'm more trained to be less trigger happy when it comes to powering up pokemon for the sake of maxing them out.

@@dark-phoenix4426 The bidoofs were only really useful for that season, unless they ever bring that cup back lol. Play for the long-term...You won't recover ithe stardust immediately. Level pokemon up with future seasons and utility in mind...Remember that even if you were to beat every opponent and maximize your rewards plus always using star pieces you will usually get less than 10k stardust per set. Limited to 5 sets per day is less than 50k per day and less than 350k in a week. It works out a lot less than that during each event. Except for some events, like the current one with 3x stardust reward bonus, but it is not given every cup event.

Why would anyone need that much stardust? Im always around 1-2mil and spend it with no stress on everything thats meta and above 90%+. Between the times I get something good I accumulate atleast 500k stardust....If you dont have autism or OCD, this game is pretty chill

I powered up a 96 mewtwo to level 40 (from the last rotation so it had psystrike), and then less than 10 raids later I got a hundo mewtwo. Listen to him! To be fair, it is mewtwo, so I am going to bring 3 or 4 to level 40.

Question: will you definitely max Shadow Mewtwo regardless IV (within reason stats)? Shadows are frail (some) even at lv 50. If You had 96+ will you max it regardless of stardust and XL?

Shadow nerf in defense is also a indirect buff for charged attacks: Losing HP faster make you get more charged moves=slight more dps I would definitely max it out even if it’s not a 89% or higher

coming in 1 year later... always high IV shiny compared to slightly higher iv non-shiny... Decent to high lucky shiny above that... happier to take the dust discount for a slight drop in stats

I don't fully agree wit the Mewtwo one kuz, it's hard to get a better one than a 98%, and a 15atk shiny at that. For me, that's an instant max, since the only bar higher is a shundo. I do understand the dust saving thing where if you're swapping, you could get a 98 lucky shiny and that'll help us save, but you have millions of dust, so it shouldn't matter to you. Anyone else strapped for dust and xls could be more patient ig

whats wrong with having multiple level 50 legends? if you got the xl for it do it. i have 12 mewtwo at level 40 all 93+ and i plan to get each one to 50. the difference from a 93 to 100 is nonexistent, there's no point in mass raiding if you aren't gonna use what you grind for.

Patience is important, but holding out for things like "shundos" especially lucky ones, aren't things that come to most people. Maybe if one is involved in a community where everybody raids nonstop and has dozens of different legendaries just available for trading. Which, even then, we're limited to one special trade per day, so getting that lucky shundo is borderline impossible. I've done hundreds of lucky trades, and I've maybe gotten 2 hundos. Hell, half the time I get a lucky with worse IVs than my non-lucky 'mon.

I just got 11,250 stardust per battle in PVP. If you want stardust, PVP is hands down the best way to farm stardust. In under 5 minutes, I went 3-5 in Master League and got over 33,000 stardust. This doesnt always happen since it's Go battle event happening right now, but even when its not, ts always the top way of farming stardust in Pokemon Go. I made over 100,000 stardust in about 80 minutes tonight PVP'ing in Master League.

My biggest mistake was getting so excited to power up my 100% Groudon that I lost capability to use it. At the time I didn't have it to 50, and because I had powered it at all past 40, it was no longer elagable for the special cups. So not good enough for 50 Madters pvp and not elagable for 40 Clasic Masters. Lost it complety until I could get the xls

Not Billy but I think I could help. 1) If you have already powered up your shadow to max then maxing out a shlundo is worth it. Think about it this way, shadow is more useful than non shadow. Plus that Shlundo will be used a mega in future but thats probably a year away and when mega is out you can raid again for XLs. Maybe by then there might be another new system that helps us get more XLs. For now powering up shadow is priority one and you can power up shlundo to level 40. 2)Rayquaza shadow isn't out yet and we know there is another lati shadow to be released before they move to a new shadow, By then I think we will get Rayquaza in raids so you can farm xls then. So powering up Rayquaza is worth it given how useful it is. I suggest double moving it so you can use it as both Flying and Dragon attacker. And in future when it gets it's legacy move you can elite TM on this 98%. I hope it was helpful

Power up the Pokémon you are going to use. Stardust doesn’t gain interest and you will have more fun using a 96% in raids or PVP then not powering up your Pokémon. I have 6 shadowball mewtwos that I got during the Ex raid era and all were powered up to level 40. Their IVs weren’t even in the 90’s but I got to use them. If you just want a bunch of level 20’s that take up space than fine. Remember look IVs have less of importance the stronger base stats a Pokémon has.

I’ve managed to get a hundo Mewtwo today. I also have shadow Mewtwo which isn’t fully powered up, it’s 13-12-13 IVs. I have enough xl to max the shadow and half max my hundo. However, I’ve decided to wait, just in case Cliff gets another Mewtwo and on the off chance I can get a higher shadow. I wish xl wasn’t so tedious to get. I mean, my shadow Mewtwo is L43, right. I’ve had it as my buddy and walking it has not gotten my even one xl candy! It’s very demoralising to say the least! 😡 Added: I’ve also done over 70 Mewtwo raid and not seen one shiny. I have 4 rubbishy shiny ones. I’d sooner have a hundo non shiny than a 98 shiny any day.

Mewtwo will be back again in future when its mega comes up so you can raid for xls again to powerup a non shadow. At this point of time and probably to a year from now investing on the Shadow will be worth it. Don't get disheartened with not getting a shiny, you can always lucky trade your rubbish shinies to re roll for better IVs.

Another mistake is not learning about important aspects of the game before making important decisions. For example, as a relatively new player I’ve made the mistake of powering up or mega evolving my highest cp Pokémon without realizing they were 0 or 1 star IVs. I’ve also purified some rare/meta relevant shadow Pokémon without realizing they’re more powerful in their shadow form. 😭

I know this is an exception but I’m personally trying to best buddy a 4* Lopunny, I’m level 45 with 2m dust. Considering maxing out purely because I like the idea of having a 4*, best buddy mega. Also collecting mega energy for it too. All my 4* Megan’s (and future mega evolutions) are below and something I want to max out. Lucario Metagross Sceptile Altaria Houndoom Lopunny Also have a Gyarados but already maxed it out. Just like the idea of maxing these out as some have some future use. 🙂 That being said, my top 20 CP Pokémon are all 4K+ (haven’t bothered powering up Slaking, not worth the investment).

Noob here...as he's flipping through the different Mewtwos, how is he able to tell 96 from 98, etc.? Is there something on the screen I'm missing? Would like to be able to tell this for all my pokemon
