I found Laura's explanations very clear and helpful. For example, her suggestion to conquer one song at a time relieves me of the feeling that I should be moving along more quickly. Now I realize that it's good to spend as much time as necessary on one song until I feel very comfortable with it. Her friendly, easy demeanor makes it very easy to listen to her and want to follow her recommendations.

I'm a 60 years old beginner and have watched several violin lesson channels and find your to be the most informational. Your explanation's make learning a bit easier for me. Thanks for sharing your time and thanks for the free book downloads. Fly safe!!!

I love this channel. I just had my 63rd birthday and have made all 4 mistakes. I appreciate your advice, very wise.

There is soooo much free music online. I have scribd and Amazon prime kindle. So I started collecting as I would surf. I would see something and think, ohhhh one day I'll be able to play that. I now have 4 2" binders of music. It became more about collecting than playing! I've almost got everything organized so it might one day be useful. Scales, there's a million versions. I then organized my beginner sheet music by key. What I find interesting, on a day (or week ) when I know my hands are not going to work, I'll only get frustrated, mad and then rehearsals get farther apart, I find I like comparing the same music that's in different keys, or I'll just pluck out music. Playing with sheet music wayyyy above me is fun just plucking and its like taking something apart to see how it works. Listening to a recording of the music I'm holding and trying just to follow it and keep up really helps me start to hear things in a new way or hear parts I've actually been missing for years. I have down time, it's unavoidable but I tell myself I'm training my ear or improving my reading skills. It's a shame this can't be reveresed. Kids, nimble fingered little farts, avoid practice and feel great. Me, and probably a lot of older adults, for whatever reason don't/can't practice and we feel guilty or lazy. I'm always amazed when there's something I try and try but I'm just not getting, like the timing/rhythm of a couple measures. After multiple attempts fail, maybe for a week, it just doesn't click, and I finally walk away for 2 or 3 days, then after dragging my feet I pick it up again and TADA. I wish I could see my brain making connections, trimming others. Probably after I go to sleep, my brain gets some peace and figures out the problem, because outside noise (me) is gone. To this old lady, it's magic. Thank you for the videos and advice. BTW I'm not trying to sound pretentious, well not to you, but my grandkids, then yes, a pretentious fiddle player. Granny doesn't merely practice, she is in rehearsals for her future tours. I may be booked to perform in my kitchen this week and their back yard on the weekend. I rehearse to maintain the rigorous tour demands. 😉

I just discovered this channel and thanks so much. I started learning violin at 21 only a month or so ago and I find myself getting way in over my head because I'm so excited. Please make more videos dedicated to adult beginners. Thanks so much

I'm glad I found your tutorials! They are very helpful. I started learning to play at the age of 62 and am still learning, going into my 4th year. I do understand that it's a never-ending process and love the way I can create and add different variations to my playing. My instructor is 10 years older than me and is great at teaching. I am being taught to play a lot in 2nd and 3rd positions, which can be a challenge, but making great sounds. I can relate so much to these 4 mistakes!

Thanks for your insight! I am really enjoying the journey and am able to laugh out loud with my teacher every two weeks. I think that’s a sign that I’m on the right track. And I’m starting to sound better when I play scales❤

Thanks. I wonder why , when 1st learning scales we are not using the 4th finger straight away. Adding it later, to me creates a problem. I think going open, 1,2,3,4 fingers the check open next string would cut down learning time.
