So guessing buying Smith and I-258 for my first fig cuttings wasn't the right thing to do...lol. I killed them. I've already changed that technique and have done some different variety cuttings differently and I'm having better success but still have lost some when we had a cold front come through and I moved them inside. I don't think they liked that change and lost 3 cuttings that were doing good. I've gotten some cuttings from my grandfathers homestead and now I'm going to practice both fig pop method and sand propagation like you show next. I will figure it out soon enough for a higher success rate. Then I will try my hand at the more premium varieties again. Thanks for sharing Chad

Hey Chad thank you for the video. I am currently trying to propagate two of your fig cuttings (NWA unknown and unknown Ashbury Black). I have followed all your tips and was wondering if you could show what the begining of the roots look like to look for. In your videos you always show after the roots are grown. I am just looking for what things to look for when they are starting to produce roots. Thank you again. Still holding out hope they will produce roots. The cuttings are quite large in diameter. And I know you said in one video that sometimes the larger ones are harder or take more time.

Thanks for watching the video! Yes, they are not necessarily harder but they can take more time. The plus side of a larger cutting is a beautiful trunk to the tree early on. With that being said, you’ll see little white dots start to form that almost look like mold, but they are actually root nodules which will soon turn into full blown roots. Keep the medium lightly moist and not sopping wet, and you’ll be golden. Give them time as rooting is not always a quick process. Also, somewhere in the many videos we’ve created is a video showing the early signs of root development. It’s lost in the plant fanatics time warp. Haha

@@PlantFanatics Thank you. How to tell if they are too wet? It has been about a month since I started them. No white nodules yet. But also have not seen any mold. Just sticks in sand on a heat matt in a tub

Boomer Tip: Suggest you use voice-over on any video with machine noise, here it sounds like a fan. Reason being is for those of all ages with hearing problems AND visual issues. Bad ears mean most of your words can not be heard. Bad eyes means we can't turn to close captioned. For you it means you're quietly losing interested viewers as they've learned not to speak up because of nasty people who treat us like garbage. I've learned, from going to their accounts, that they are often the same people who speak out FOR inclusion of the disabled community. Sadly they do so only to look hip, cool and with it. So I speak out then move on and ignore notifications because I don't want to read vicious vulgar hate directed at me and only for asking to be included. I wish you great success🎉

I hear what you’re saying. Typically I would use a mic or do a voiceover. This was just a quick video I threw out in a hurry. Sorry for the hard time. 😀

If you have a hard time hearing what he is saying, you could use the text function on youtube, it's not 100% accurate but it works.

@@davidgunnarsson5524 Legally blind in one eye and recovering from surgery on both as they try to improve my better one. At 69yo I've outlived those who would help me so I'm alone doing my best while speaking out not just for myself but those too afraid of online raging to speak up and ask for one simple thing: May we be included too please?🥹

What’s your opinion on those cheap moisture meter probes? The ones I’ve had seem to not be too accurate.

I think they are terrible. Definitely worth spending a little more money to get something nicer.

Wow… sums up all my failures of last year 😂 especially the fig part bc my whole interest was to propagate/clone my neighbors fig tree and it just didn’t happen! I’ve got SO many seedlings going rn, apples pomegranate oranges and the fig seeds just started to sprout!! 🌱

Sounds like you know how to have fun! Yes, lightly moistened rooting medium, and constant warm temps are all that’s truly necessary.

My favorite, unknown Ashbury Black. Has the ability to dry on the tree and tastes like berry jam. There are too many to name, but Dalmatie is great as well.

When do you uncover your mulched outdoor figs?
@PlantFanatics
@PlantFanatics 6 месяцев назад
The transition to warmer weather around the last frost date isn’t consistent annually. Monitor closely for early bud activity, signaling it’s time to remove any protective coverings.
