I’m a teacher, and following your guidelines has me getting all sorts of compliments from students and staff. I do find I can get away with nicer shorts (not Bermudas) at school so long as I style them with a blazer and loafers. However, at my former school, probably not.

I'm a teacher too! How I dress has always depended on administration. I usually dress business-casual. My latest administrator does not approve of jeans or leggings except on Friday. I've never attempted wearing shorts, but I would wear them if styled with a blazer. I may try it this upcoming school year since it will still be summer when I go back!

Love that u dress up...I have seen some teachers wear ratty jeans and big sloppy tee shirts. I think kids have more respect if the teacher cares about their appearance...nothing wrong with a nice pair of jeans , more fitted top...nice shoes.

I totally hear you, Danielle! Thanks for the suggestion. I'd suggest just taking inspiration from these looks, but fitting it into your own personal style and your own office needs! So if you love the blazer look, go for a more casual one that is a linen blend, and pair it with jeans...or do the dresses and skirts but leave the blazer off! Thanks so much for watching! xo

I get it. Something that I do is wear a brighter shirt. Even a bright cami under my white button down and allow the top buttons to be open to show the color. I also wear pale pink pants for example, instead of khakis or a colored or white loafer or oxford in summer. Cole Haan and Coach have good options and I get lots of compliments. They last for years. Fun light weight socks are a conversation piece too.

High school teacher here. The more casual the other admin/teachers get the more I step it up. Sure, you can teach in anything, but the students pay attention… They don’t even realize they are treating me with more respect than the teachers in jeans, but they do. (Works on co-workers/admin too!) Tip for wearing white pants: I usually pair them with a long beige cardigan that I can take off and on. Great layer when the AC gets too much and covers the spots that might get dirty!

Hey Erin! I love your content and appreciate how positive you are. I wanted to also tell you thank you for how inclusive you make your language. I have noticed a shift with you in the last year or so where you started saying partner or significant other instead of spouse. This is such a small thing, but really makes an inclusive impact. As the mama of an LGBTQ kiddo I appreciate content creators that think of everyone when using language. I also think it says a lot about who you are as a person and your character. I know standing with and saving space for others can make some business owners concerned about the financial impact on making such decisions. I’m grateful that you have chosen kindness and love. Thank you!

Hi! I'm the Dean of the Library at a medium size university. (side note--I've lost quite a bit of weight over the past 6 months and this channel has been INVALUABLE with revamping my work style for my new body!). My uniform is slacks or jeans, a top, and a blazer for meetings. I usually do a neutral top and more vibrant blazer or vice versa. I'm a sucker for fun necklaces--kicks up an outfit without requiring too much thought. This summer I've been wearing a lot of navy and white as my neutrals, with bold pinks and lighter blues for color. I also invested in a few linen jackets this summer as part of my larger wardrobe refresh, and I LOVE them. Today is a no-meeting day and summers in higher ed are a bit more dressed down, so I'm in grey loafers and slacks, a white tee, and a pink, green and blue tropical-ish print button up layered on top and tied around the waist. Finished the look with one of those multi-strand paper clip necklaces in silver. If I'd had a meeting today I would have ditched the button-up and gone for one of the more colorful linen blazers, either a hot pink or aqua.

I am a compliance consultant in the employee benefits industry. Normally I work from home, but have been to around 4-5 business conferences this year. I've had success with the blazer over the maxi dress look. It was super hot outside, but freezing in those hotel ballrooms. I took off the blazer and changed into sandals for the very casual mixer dinner at a BBQ joint. Worked well. So, that will be my go-to summer professional wear this year.

I am an engineer and work in absolutely male dominated environment. 99% of the time I am the only woman in the room. We have basically no dress code. Kinda like tech industry and google. But clothing is still important. May be even more important than when you have a dress code. I need to think before all meetings about how I want to be perceived, which emotions I want to cause? I need to think about what is my strat for the meeting and dress so that it supports my goals. I love and use a lot the look: "summer dress with a blazer". I have blazers in various colors, but never printed. And they go pretty well with very floral summery printed light dresses.

I can so relate to your comment. After 30 years in Silicon Valley high tech, I'm STILL the only woman in the room. You have a great outlook on how curated fashion choices can distinguish you amongst all the male colleagues. It's so easy to fall into the Tech Bro no-dress-code-because-I'm too-smart-to-care attitude that pervades high tech, and I do see a fair number of younger women in the field adopting the gray hoodie and jeans look. In some cases, they look like male robots. IMO, you're definitely on the right track to success!

Over the years, the work environment dress moved to more casual Friday everyday. I still wear an occasional suit, but really my go to attire is pants or jeans and a blazer - this is my uniform mostly. I love my blazers! They always finish my outfit and give me a more profession casual look in the office. I worked most of my entire life either in customer service, as a purchasing /buyer or inventory management. I enjoyed the different.challenges of the positions but I was so happy to finally not have to deal with women who were obviously not happy with themselves and was hateful to me because I enjoyed looking put together. When I step foot in a business type setting I love to apply as many of Erin’s principles as I can. I need to focus more on the details of the accessorizing. I would say I need to have more summer type of handbags to complement my outfit such as a basket weave bag, a white bag, more brightly pop of color bags. I love how Erin emphasized wearing white, the colorful outfits, maxi dresses can be extra feminine….and many, many, more important points. Thank you dear sweet Erin❤️

That is what I did too...I was a psych professor and college administrator I taught once in awhile, also I was asst director of a state education agency at another time in my career. I retired at 50 to sail the Caribbean with my mate after spending my entire adult life in higher ed either as a student or professionally. Now we are retired just outside a beautiful Spanish colonial town in Central America, perched on the side of an extinct volcano, two other volcanos in the distance one sporadically active....at a safe distance. Year round Spring climate daytime, blazers or jackets at night when it is cooler. Professional and businesswomen here retired or not, dress in blazers and slacks or mostly. Many fly to MIami to shop once or twice a year. Several fly together and make a girls week of it. These local women and some retirees from the US, Canada, and Europe are my friends. My daughter, a just retired Coast Guard helicopter pilot, lives in the Ft. Lauderdale area, so I tend to shop there when visiting. We all have an active social life together, the women and their mates, lots of restaurant dates as groups and social activities. Funny how we dress very like we all did when working. Many especially like the British country look for casual clothing riding boots, tweed jackets, etc very popular here, like old Ralph Lauren ads. That really surprised me, the English country look in Latin America.Except for the boots that was often what I wore in my career, except I come from an era when female administrators had to wear skirted suits, pumps and pantyhose. I always joked my happiest day would be the day I made a bonfire of all my pantyhose the day I retired. It was all bathing suits and shorts on the sailboat before we settled here...the most free I have ever been was that period, just us, the Caribbean, anchored off as many tiny non inhabited islands as we could find...we carried 300 books...a serene life...this one is nice too, feels like we have fallen into a tropical Isabel Allende novel. Sublime. I loved my career and I have loved my retirement..I have been so lucky in life. Best regards to you, I hope you enjoy yourself as much as I did.

Hi Erin! Great tips!! I’m a Senior Emergency Services Coordinator for the state of CA emergency management agency. I work in the field and also the office. I wear my uniform when I’m activated or deployed on an incident. I keep field gear in my truck and wear street clothes in the office. I’m finally comfortable with the idea of wearing white, especially white jeans, and I’m on the hunt. Everything seems to be high waisted, which I cannot wear because of my body shape, so it’s been a challenge. Thank you for sharing your amazing content. You have excellent tips!!

Hi Erin. I enjoy your videos and fashion. I worked for 40 years in the legal field as a secretary/paralegal. The large firms that I worked for expected the staff to be about as professionally dressed as the attorneys (sans the attorney's salary!). I remember at my last firm, when they allowed casual Fridays, I was amazed at how many people thought that meant you could wear ratty jeans and sandals. They finally gave an ultimatum and said that if casual Friday was to continue there would be no more blue jeans (they did concede to other-colored jeans). This was in central Florida!

I was a Sr Manager leading teams and worked in many areas in the same financial firm over the years. Official policy was business casual including jeans every day. Unofficially it depended on the department norms. During my time in capital markets, I saved the jeans for Friday and felt more comfortable(ie part of the team) wearing blazers/suits/dresses with heels every day. Even the jeans - dark denim with heels. I can’t go back to heels after two years working at home in slippers. 😂

I'm a high school Science teacher and get dressed up every day. I don't dress like a typical Science teacher!! For a long time, I used to wear a lot of dresses (one and done) but now I am findining I'm loving separates. On the bottom half, I tend to wear dramatic pants or skirts. Then for tops I like to have a bit of stretch that allow me to move my arms around. I mostly wear some kind of heel. However, on the days when I teach each lesson I tend to wear my Superga one inch sole white leather sneakers. They are so comfy!!

Thank you for reminding your viewers, that there are limits, and we should not wear inappropriate clothes to work....my biggest pet peeve is dirty dingy sneakers, and body con dresses particularly if the person does not have the body for it...it is an eye sore, inappropriate, unprofessional and makes people uncomfortable, might as well wear a bikini to work.

Hi Erin - the clothes you featured are lovely and the enjoyed looking at the outfits you featured, but as a government attorney I would never wear any of them in my business casual office. With the exception of certain situations (ie going to court) suits, jackets, and formal pumps aren’t required or appropriate. Most people here pay attention to haircuts & grooming and generally wear polished but casual and non-fashiony separates. A brightly printed ankle length dress with a low cut spaghetti strap top would not work, even with a jacket. I should add that while going without a bra might work for some people, there are many people- including me - for whom it’s not an option. I would love to see some suggestions for business casual office wear that puts less emphasis on fashion and trends and more on flattering the individual. Thanks.

East coast lawyer here. I do everything you mentioned. Blazers can make almost anything office appropriate. Slingbacks tho are the most open shoes possible. No sandals. West coast you can get away with almost anything depending on the client. My west coast clients go around in flip flops and I dress down to see them but still dress better. I might wear a dark tailored jeans dress amd white blazer to see a west coast client. Nothing too short. Material or tailoring can transform your clothing.

I'm Lisa and work in a school on the Southeast coast. It is challenging, I've collected a few white pairs of pants and a couple of neutral linen pants. Plain v neck ts under a light blazer is good, and light cardigans work here too. Tan, white, peach and light blue are my go tos. I find light blazers at places like surf shops, they're awesome, have pockets, are fairly tailored but not heavy! I'm a supervisor, and after the pandemic, I've had a hard time convincing staff to not wear torn jeans. Its a struggle.

Currently I'm a personal chef but for 12 years I worked in an office as a call center manager. I had a lot of conversations with women wearing shorts that had their cheeks out! I don't know how they could even stand it. I was so cold every day in that office and especially in the summer it was like a meat locker. I’m a physician - I wear a white coat in the office every day. Suits would not work most days - but I do like to add a cute blazer if I am going to a meeting. I have some nice light neutral linen blazers that work great with summer outfits. I loved the flowery maxi dress - but it would be too long and impractical in my office. Longer skirts get caught in the rolling chairs. I prefer knee length fit and flare dresses - cute, cool, and flattering. Keep up the great videos!

I’m an accountant in the Oil and Gas industry….so, our office environment leans more conservative. Although I have worked remote for the past 3+ years, when I do go to the office I have a pretty basic style (definitely from my days as an external auditor)….slacks/skirt, fitted top, blazer/cardigan….or a button down. Office attire is one area where I pretty much have a capsule wardrobe. I can relate to your intern fashion stories….I have had to have difficult conversations with both male and female employees in the past….wearing “club wear” to the office or wearing extremely wrinkled clothing….it is an uncomfortable conversation for all involved!

I worked for many years as a teacher. The dress code is not as strict as it may be in a corporate environment. I do recall one young teacher whose skirts were quite short, but administration did not address this issue. However, it was the female students who complained that their teacher was dressing too provocatively and was distracting the male students in class. To make a long story short, the situation got so out of hand that the teacher herself resigned from teaching and moved back to her hometown. It certainly pays to be keenly aware of the physical impression one is making at any work environment.
