I'll just leave this comment here in hopes of adding another perspective, since this wasn't something I ever thought about until I became personally affected by food allergies. Similar to your comment about keeping foods with strong smells in case you sit next to a pregnant lady, I think some people with nut allergies can be very sensitive to smells of the nut butter (my friend, for one) and can have skin rashes/itching from contact with nut proteins (I'm thinking the dust that comes off of nuts and land unseen on surfaces). And the airlines don't always announce the nut allergy either even though it was declared before check in (personal experience). I do hope that people are sympathetic to those with allergies even though they don't show any outward signs that they have a medical condition, I think you'd be surprised at how many negative and non-inclusive comments I read regarding not being able to consume nuts on the plane. Thank you for the snack ideas, I will definitely use them on our next trip!

Thanks for referencing the nut study. YOUR allergy should not disrupt MY life. But I'm often willing to be polite, when met with equally polite energy.

I make quesadillas (seasoned, cooked steak and cheese/dairy free cheese) and breakfast burritos (grilled chicken, scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, and cheese) for traveling. More interesting than a sandwich and the melted cheese helps fillings stay inside. All my trips are long (originate from Alaska) and haven't ever had issues with food going bad. I do love your sausage muffin idea.

Great ideas! I do want to share something I learned recently though. Rice shouldn't be kept at room temperature for more than two hours. It can be pretty dangerous. Not something I'd ever thought of before, but it's just something I thought people might want to know!

Yes, I researched that as well after it was pointed out, because I had never heard of this either!! As long as you refrigerate it at some point after it has been cooked before taking it with you, it will kill the bacteria. It's only if its left out for hours and never refrigerated. So not a great idea to pick up freshly cooked rice at Thai or Chinese restaurant then take it with you and not eat it for several hours! Thanks for the heads up 😊

Love me some Taco Bell and your reuse of the bowl. My go to snack for domestic flights is a combo of walnuts, blueberries and dark chocolate chips-a little protein, al little carb and some antioxidant fun. For international flights, I bring beef jerky, mini Brie cheese (Trader Joe’s), wheat crackers and grapes, oh, and Milano cookies.

Love your ideas! I am Celiac and I don't travel very often. I have a trip coming up and I am going to have to bring gluten free foods with me. I'm a little nervous about the availability of gluten free on the planned trip I am going on and I get very sick with exposure. One of my main sources of food is nuts and I am happy you linked that article. I would, of course, be respectful of others with allergies, as I would appreciate others' understanding of mine. Anyway, I love the idea of the frozen grapes and gluten free muffins. I have some more ideas now - thank you!

I was on a flight a few years ago when a passenger in the seat in front of me decided to do a test pump for her Asthma pump. It affected me and I started coughing. The Flight Attendant came over to ask if I was ok and I told her what happened. She spoke with the passenger and moved her to the front. Please don't spray anything in the cabin because it may affect the people around you.

On my last flight from NJ to CA, I froze a bagel to act as a cooling brick and it worked well! And once defrosted, I had the bagel to eat! But I do love that sponge trick and will use it. Mayve wrap it in anpaper towel so there wkll be no dripping condensation. I loved your "bento box" type snack choices!

I always bring a icebag with me. I will get ice in the airport after tsa. Then I will use it at my destination to keep my insulated bag contents cold. It comes in handy if you have a injury and need to ice , ypu have a bag to use.

Before my most recent trip, I was fortunate to learn about taking a bottle of frozen water through TSA! Such a great idea, and I had no trouble getting it through. In fact, the TSA agent agreed it's a clever approach. One thing I did to prevent melting was to cover the top & bottom of the bottle with koozies; we have a long drive to the airport and the koozies kept the water completely frozen for longer. Also, I LOVE Taco Bell too, though like you, I rarely eat it. They must put some magic addictive thing in their food. 😉

My friends’ daughter has an airborne anacephelic allergy to fish. It can be deadly for her. Even the smell of fish can trigger an episode. They don’t fly unless it is the only way.

And if you are British...Pasties!! Just not ones with gravy, so like sausage rolls would do well. I like to do lunch meat with some cheese in my pastries. We're going to be loading up a lunch box with non-liquids for an overnight flight with my kiddo in a couple months. He's a very picky eater but I bet if I do some plain cheese rolls for him, he would love that. Or sausage balls (1lb bulk sausage, 2C cheddar cheese (shredded or finely minced), and I think it's 1 or 2 cups of Bisquick. Either would work, depends on the ratio you prefer. The grease from the cooking sausage gets soaked into the bisquick. I guess it acts more of a filler, but it does make them more shelf-stable for a day's outing. Hot or room temp, it's good. I'm ok with buying our drinks on the other side of TSA before the flight departs. As long as little man is good, I'll be fine. Getting fish and chips as soon as we get to London!!

When my son smells peanut butter he can get quite nauseous and bothered by it. True, ingesting is when he gets into trouble with hives or stomach cramps/vomiting. Also, I have fruit allergies and smelling them can cause me trouble in my throat. Just adding some validity to the issue. Hopefully, the person seated near would graciously wait in eating there snack.

Yes, the air may not transfer nut particles but many people with severe allergies can be affected by microscopic trace transfer. It is not only the nearby passengers but those who will travel in your seat on the subsequent flights who may touch something unintentionally contaminated. Try an alternative like peabutter or tahini instead.

1) not packing any snacks at all… 2) not packing food that is considered a liquid in a liquid bag 💼 3) packing smelly food like sauerkraut 4) packing items with too much sodium 🧂 (HAFE) or drinking carbonated item and nuts 🥜 5) packing food that can’t be brought through other countries 6) not packing something to keep your dairy 🥛 and meat 🍖 products cool 😎 7) freeze 🥶 a water bottle and pack instant oatmeal 🥣 8) make your own Avacado toast 9) make easy pinwheel sandwich 🥪 10) rice 🍚 bowl such as containers from Taco 🌮 Bell 🛎️ 11) make some ham and egg 🥚 muffins

I must wear a carbon face mask while flying due to my horrid reactions to perfumes, colognes, jet fuel, etc. So there's an idea for the nut allergy people. I'm also limited by food allergies and nuts are something I can eat. I don't stay home. I go prepared to be exposed to whatever.

A lady with a purse dog began to sit next to me on a plane. I had a carbon mask on and could smell the heavily perfumed dog (I get asthma+ from perfumes and colognes) She saw the look on my face and asked if I was allergic to dogs. I said yes, and she moved, thank goodness. The airline told me while booking, if someone with a dog is next to me, I would have to move, so the dog was given preference to a person. I've talked to my airline to Alaska in a few weeks, and they're trying to accommodate me.
@Galen-864
@Galen-864 3 месяца назад
@@gonancy It's similar to giving preference to smokers back in the day. Second hand smoke stealing your breath and the stench, not to mention they could set you on fire. Dogs also stink, can tear your face off, or give you asthma attacks and kill you. But, I'm the one who has to make way for their animal! WTH! You can't allow a peanut on a plane because of severe allergies so why are animals allowed?
@therese6030
@therese6030 3 месяца назад
@@Galen-864 I understand you frustrated, But some dogs really are service animals and monitor stress and heart attacks and even epilepsy episodes, or help a blind person ect. I have asthma and Allargi too i take a shot on my self every 2 week. But i think we live in a world where we are over populated and we need to start respecting each other or all this drama and hate will never stop. I mean so you can not sit next to an old person or a child because they smell. 1 women on the air plain i think she smell sweat and pee i sat next to her for 6h. But we are all different and we need to start to embrace that and respecting it
