United is in the process of renovating the interiors of many of their planes with modern amenities like large overhead bins, better Wi-Fi, and in seat entertainment. But there's a whole group of very old planes that are not getting the upgrade. Why should you try and avoid the 777-200? Let's find out on these flights between Chicago, Denver, and Orlando.

I flew on a brand new United 777 from Chicago to Seattle in 1995. It was amazing back then.😊

I'm a Delta loyalist and feel the same way about their 763's and 738's. These planes really tarnish Delta's otherwise excellent on board experience, but they're not quite as bad as this United 777! Tbh I rarely find myself on United and thought they were further along with their new cabin rollouts.

I just had the...pleasure of a Delta 767-300 back from Hawaii. Definitely will be a similar conclusion.

If you are disappointed that they aren't, you can blame the supply chain and chip shortages. These are constraints that shifted and United had no warning of this until months after their announcement of NEXT

I honestly prefer Delta’s 767-300s to their A330s, at least in economy, and I didn’t understand why people disliked them until I heard about the dated first class. It’s really a portion of their 737-800s that I dislike, and they’re the ones with the old IFE system that are getting retrofitted this year anyway.

From what I can tell United is planning on replacing them which is why their is no planned renovation. They really do suck though. Luckily the 787-10 has taken over some routes

Idk. I just flew a UA 773 to Europe in Premium, and it was great! On the flight home, I got a 763 (literally the oldest one in their fleet), but I paid for Economy Extra Legroom, and it was fantastic! Maybe I just got lucky.
@Travelog
@Travelog Год назад
That’s true, but they’ve enhanced the interiors of the 300s. And most of the 200s. There’s just this sub-fleet of 200s for domestic routes that remains forgotten.

How comfortable were the seats? I remember when United had the 3-3-3 configuration in economy on the 777-200/200ERs.
@dannychan6202
@dannychan6202 4 месяца назад
On shorter flights, the B777 is actually optimal for business class (marketed as domestic First Class). True, the 2-4-2 configuration is tight, but the fact that the seats go lie-flat cannot be complained about in that scenario. However, it can be agreed that no seatback IFE in Economy is pretty disastrous.

Flew on 777-200 to and from my vacation this summer in economy plus. To my destination it had the screen, charger ports and other newer stuff and going back home it only had the chargers and was still economy plus so it depends on plane age what it has I guess. (Only plane trouble was the cargo hull before the flight)
@Travelog
@Travelog 7 дней назад
Yep, that's the two different configurations for you. the "International" 777s are the nicer ones.

I love the United Club fly lounge in Denver. You can usually see me stock up on lots of snacks and drinks every time I go. To the point my carry on bag is completely full so I don’t really have to do much grocery shopping when I get home. I hope to try the new United Club in Chicago soon too. I do like how cheap the WiFi is though. Never really had many issues with it when I have bought it in the past

@@hus390 if you have access to the United Club Fly lounge, then yea the food and drinks are free for you to take. Personally I kinda wish there were more than one location as of right now but, I’m content with what we have currently. WiFi isn’t free yet but, I am glad that it’s not much compared to American.

thanks for saving me from booking mco--msp one way on UA! now I found out that mco-ord route was one of the routes this plane flies, its despicable it has no ife/avod, the only reason i wanted to fly on ua is because I've never been on a 777 in my life but i guess i'll steer clear

Even other US carriers, who still have these old 777-200s still flying with them, has done even a WAY BETTER JOB than United keeping these older 200/200ERs still looking fresh and modern, despite them being more than 25 years old!! American Airlines, who's been flying the 200ER since 1999, has a retrofitted cabin now on all 777-200ERs, even if the 200ER retrofit happened about 8-9 years ago, the cabin still looks fresh, even by today's standards with an ample IFE seat back screen, and mood lightning. AA really did an excellent job hiding the age of the 200ER. Delta (even though they retired all their 777-200s back in 2020) has made the planes look modern and fresh in 2018-2019 on their 200ERs and LRs with the new Delta One seats, and it received positive feedback, and they also did an excellent job hiding the age of their aircraft as well, too back they retired them all early, since the retrofit was only done 1-2 years before COVID, but it wasn't their fault. I wish United really put their new cabins on ALL 777-200s no matter the age!

The 1st 777 was operated by Cathay Pacific and is now retired. United was the lunch operator of the 777 so the first airline to use this plane. The first 777 (777-200 with Trent 800, originally built for Boeing Company) was delivered to Cathay in 2000 if I’m not wrong.

United should paint one of these domestic 777s in the Rising Blue livery. These Tulip fanboys need to be put in their place because they forgot which airline these dormitory business seats and the idea of screenless econ seats came from. The Continental business class is outdated for 2010s standards, but when it came out in 2009, it was competitive and much better than Tulip Airline's business class. Oh, and let's not forget that all of Continental's widebodies had screens in economy, Continental was even installing seatback screens onto their narrowbodies, hence why United's 737s even had DirecTV in the first place. Meanwhile, even some of Tulip Airlines's long-haulers like 747s and some 777s don't have IFE screens. I know that some Tulip fanboys are going to say that Continental was the worse one just because Smisek took over from 2012-2015, but that's like saying "US Airways preferred Boeing widebodies" because AA took a lot of Boeing widebodies and cancelled A350 orders under Parker/Isom
