It is safe if you do it carefully. The speed is very slow, so there is not pulp over heating.

Yeah, you might be avoiding exposure, but remember that you might be as well generating high heat that may degenerate the pulp in the future.

This is true. Sometimes it may be better to simply use hand instruments for this stage of caries removal.
