I'm looking at getting the PF15 ECE. What's the action like to play, do you have to put much pressure on the strings? I had a really old acoustic that you needed a tonne of pressure to get a good sound.
i need to adjust the saddle on the aw54 but it still plays great. on the pf15 i kind of think somebody ruined the truss rod and possibly warped the neck slightly before i got it. i didn’t know that when i bought it so it doesn’t play nearly as good as the aw54 for those reasons.
@@hoffguitars479 I plan to get the aw54 as I have the Yamaha fg401a but it's action is a bit too high. Is the aw54 ready to play or needs to be adjusted first?
yes you should get it set up. I hadn’t done anything to mine until recently. It played fine just not great. And I think I could with a proper set up. Also, upgrade the strings to elixir brand. $20 but more than worth it for how good they sound and how much better they play!
One more question as you are so kind to answer. I'm on my 1st year of self study through an online program that a purchased. Until now I'm not even good at strumming. Some are talented and improve quickly not me. Would it be easier if I should get the grand concert ac240 or ac340 rather than the aw54 ? They say ac240 is for fingerpicking the aw54 for strumming. I need an allrounder at first to learn everything as my goal is to join our church band one day.
Give me a couple days to look into those models. I’m all about helping a guy get into church music so I’ll do a little bit a study and see what I come up with I don’t know a lot about those two yet. I love my AW 54 for the fingerpicking. With the elixir strings it sounds great. I did a review on this guitar about a month and a half ago. If you go back and watch that it shows a little bit more about the strumming and fingerpicking. It’s more detailed than the comparison I did between it and the PF 15.
Forgot to include the most important difference between these two; the PF15CE is all laminate wood and the AW54 has a solid top with laminate back and sides. World of difference in how "open" the guitar sounds. Also, pretty sure the neck on the AW54 is also mahogany and the bridge and fretboard are rosewood. I have an AW54ce that I love - same guitar as the AW54 with a cutaway, tuner, and Fishman pickup. Great review of these two guitars though!
Wow, definitely noticed a more pronounced mid and low range on the AW vs. the PF. That solid top definitely makes a difference. I have an old PF6 from about 2001 that I had in my closet in its hard case for almost 20 years. Took it out early this year (started playing again), cleaned it up, restrung it, and still looks and sounds great. After this though, if I keep playing, I might take a look at something with a solid top, and possibly with built-in pickups as well (briefly looked at the AAD series). I considered Taylor, but for the money, I think that Ibanez still offers a really good value for what you get, even if the stalwarts like Taylor and Martin will always be the technically superior guitars.
Got the aw54ce opn a few days ago and I'm pretty amazed by the amount of guitar you get for the money. I paid 250 for it and it also came with an extra saddle for lower action. Amazing value for money
@@josephmullinsii8461 hey man, I just bought this guitar about a month ago and I'm a newbie to guitar. In your opinion, what are the most important things that need adjusting on the setup of this guitar?
I just got a used Art Wood and I love it! Ita more i dont know chimmy if that's a word. It just sounds so different to my Washburn dont get me wrong I love the Washburn too it sounds more precise but certain songs just sound better on the Art Wood
AW-54 definitely cost more than PF15ECE in the UK but pretty soon am gonna go for PF15ECE due to it is rich in strumming, shiny finishing, dreadnought cutaway shape & onboard Tuner. Thank you for your view & comparison ... Cheers!!!
No comparison, the AW54-OPN is way better. And I really like the look of the vintage OPN models, I'm thinking about getting a grand concert sized one like the AVC9-OPN or AC340/AC340CE-OPN.
Yeah, I can confirm. I have a Aw70 and a pf15 and the difference in resonance and low frequencies is nociteable. Also the thinner neck is much more comfortable
I prefer the AW54. It has a rounder, fuller tone where the bass strings project a bit more. Both guitars are pretty good for budget guitars, though. Why don't you compare the AW54 to a $200 Orangewood guitar? Orangewood guitars are budget guitars that are getting a lot of attention around the internet. Thanks for the comparison.
Your E A and D strings on PF15 are wound wrong on tuners. Need change them up to look like the AW54. (string out the bottom of tuner). good guitars for the money
That’s awesome, I watched this video because I have a limited budget and was thinking of buying this guitar and I feel really hopeful about getting it now, and it’s on sale for £179 so it’s even more of a bargin
I just picked up the aw 54. Only finger picked it at the music store. Now that I'm home using a pick,. I'm getting some fret buzz. I need to figure it out cause I really like the way it feels, plays, and sound's
Hello .. I want to buy an acoustic guitar .. but I would like to find a specific one that is a little different .. for example, I really like Gustavo Santaolalla's compositions, and specifically those of The last of us 1 and 2 .. and I would like to know which one would be better so that it is the same sound for this type of music and many more, thanks❤
I have the AW54- open cut away and love it. When I plug into my roland cube 60 acoustic channel, it's as good as any of the old Guilds cutaways the guys would play on MTV unplugged. TY
I've owned a couple of Ibanez over the decades when I was down and out. I'm never going to buy another one because I'm not broke / poor. Even if I was, I'd buy a used Yamaha. But live and learn folks. Live and learn.
Is Ibanez aw 54 still a good choice? I am looking for first guitar and I found this one. I love its sound. How about the action of strings? I really wanted to find a guitar in this price but with cutaway but it is very hard. Pretty every single is electro acoustic
It is still a good choice. You can install a piezo pickup for $30 or less so if money is the deciding factor, buy a model without the cutaway and buy a pickup for it. Most dreadnoughts with a cutaway and pickup run about $300 or more but there are lots of smaller options that do have both, they just won’t sound as good(in my opinion).
I have both!! I got the PF15ECE from my family for my birthday and picked up the Artwood at a bargain second hand. It's an older model but still sounds great. I love them both❤ and would tell anyone they can't go wrong with either.
Hey man , great vid. Could u help me pick btw aw54ece (bone nut n saddle) n aw70ece (plastic nut n saddle) And is there major differences between ece and full acoustic?
Cutaway vs no cutaway right? I don’t have a preference as far as tone it makes more difference what the finish and tone woods are. I haven’t played one of the new AW70ece but they look great! If you can afford one ($480 on reverb) that what I would choose.
Any guesses as to how the Ibanez would sound going through an effects processor with some chorus/reverb or delay added? ( direct to PA ) I usually run through my Line 6 Helix with my electric guitars.
With a reliable pick up anythimgs possible just dial in your preferred sweet spot of the effect and go. I even use overdrive for lead playing,With my ibanez and boss gtr 1 processor
For the look I like more the Ibanez because the Yamaha's body is wider. The sound I can't compare from videos but what I hear is the Yamaha is fuller and louder and the Ibanez has a better tone. In the forums everyone says to not buy and stay away from Ibanez, tho.
I really like do like both Ibanez and Yamaha. If you can try one or the other that will help you make a better decision. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with these 2 guitars.
i really liked the one on the aw54 because it’s easy to strap on and take off the sling. the pf15 has the pin where the neck and the body meet. its harder to get the sling off and on but it does turn the front of the sling out to be seen better.
