Brian Doyle, an award-winning writer and essayist and editor of the University of Portland's Portland magazine, gave this year's Stanley P. Stone Distinguished Lecture at Boston University's College of General Studies. Doyle shared some of his comedic and insightful personal stories and published essays. He encouraged students to be good listeners and storytellers, telling them that these skills are the secret to life.

I just LOVE Brian Doyle.... now that he's passed since 2017..... I'm so grateful for these videos.... I feel I DO know you, mr Doyle.... You WILL earn our listening....

I love and tear up when he tells of scolding his son so hard..... and how it torments him. So this moment was something to write about..... A dad's story of shame over a moment of rage....... His son's heart is the tender sweet now injured organ..... and he says we forget the child in ourselves...... Beautiful.
