The Thialf is ever so slightly larger in beam and length, and has a 200 tonne lifting advantage, but the Saipem is still the more impressive vessel overall in my opinion, although I am slightly biased as I sailed as an engineer on the Saipem for a time and have only seen the Thialf. But from strict stats, and features, the Saipem is a little more "awesome". The lifting radius is larger, and the power and propulsion systems are much more impressive with 12 generators producing almost a hundred thousand horsepower. 19 fully azimuthing thrusters and 2 bow. Plus the J lay tower for deep water pipe laying. etc.

Tuetensuppenkasper S7000 actually commissioned in 1985 and launched in December 1986 by Fincantieri 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 Done some work around it for Saipem in mid-90s regarding security training videos for the crew and 3D animations on the J-Lay pipeline system installed in 1998, had received the entire CAD files of it from Saipem Engineering LTD. And the nice thing is, should you ever retire, and choose ship model making as a hobby, you already have the plans. I haven't really dealt with the Castoro 6 yet. Also a pretty impressive ship. +Kees Overbeeke In terms of lifting capacity, the Thialf is slightly bigger then the Saipem 7000, but what really qualifies a crane, is not the max. lifting capacity, but the max. load and seen from that point of view the Saipem 7000 (588,000 ton meter versus 443,040 ton meter) beats the Thialf.

You are right.Biggest lift ever has been done by Thialf as far as I know: 12600 tons.Sleipnir will overtake them soon.

Liebherr cranes are some of the best mobile and crawler cranes in the world.

Asian Hercules is dwarfed by the barge cranes at Hyundai Heavy Industries (10.000mt) and Samsung Heavy Industries (8000mt).
