Oh nice I got Day of the Locust around here. As well as Pancake. Heard it’s amazing southern gothic stuff. David Joy sings the praises and he’s never steered me wrong yet.

The “Confederate general in Big Sur” sounds so different and original. Also, living in CA, I have to get myself a copy of the Day of the Locust because it seems to capture what California culture is still today! Congrats on your Faulkner exploration, isn’t it great when you read so many books from an author that you almost start to understand the way he thought?

Faulkner was a genius, and rightfully tortured by the state of humanity in the South. LiA is a tough pill. Day of the Locust....enjoy! 😝😝

One of the things i admired about confederate general from big sur is how brautigan portrays the hippy desire to play a role in american history. But i really just wasn't sold on the ending there. Trout fishing in america was more effective to me. The hemingway prose style makes chapters like the cleveland wrecking yard and jokes like "I once mistook a woman for a trout stream in vermont and had to beg her pardon. 'Excuse me, I thought you were a trout stream,' I said. 'I'm not,' she said." even more hilarious, as does his use of nonsense in such a stone-faced, deadpan, thematically serious manner. He's a tough pill to swallow for some, though. Thanks for the content on him!

Hello! Newbie to your channel and BookTube here. The Day of the Locust sounds hysterical. I lived in L.A.(and did some things industry related)for many several years and think I would enjoy reading about Hollywood being made fun of a bit. 😃
