Man that's spiffy! Building 6 15kwh battery packs myself at the moment. Can't afford that fancy stuff. Mine will have perty led lights around them. Can't touch that! 🤣
Seth, are the Giant "RCA" connectors for the battery to control able to swivel at the electrical connection mating surfaces or is that just in the insulated portion of the connector? Kinda spooky if it is at the mating surface. I love how they thought of everything from a technical perspective and from a product design perspective which does include how good it looks! Way cooler looking than a Tesla Wall.
The connectors are tight but they can swivel at the connection point. Does not seem to be an issue. It is nice to be able to reposition the cable direction without having to disconnect them.
I don't think you are referring to the chemistry of this battery which is LiFePo4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate). I think you may be referring to a LiPo (Lithium-Polymer) batteries (your phone, most small rechargeable items in your home, garage, or office if purchased in the last 10 years). LiPo batteries do catch on fire at a much more increased rate and should not be left alone charging nor should their chargers be trusted to "turn off" when the battery is fully charged.
There is a test video on the big battery youtube showing a full puncture of a battery. The LiFePo4 batteries are stable and not likely to catch fire like the lithium ion batteries you see exploding.
I am looking into the same battery. Thanks for posting your videos... trying to take in all the information I can before we install our prewired Conext SW4048/Classic 150 we purchased from altE 3 years ago. We will only be powering our RV while we build a modified Earthship style home in the next few years. Part of me wishes we hadn't purchased our inverter/charger... the past three years have brought about HUGE changes in off grid power.
Seth. I tried Big Battery yesterday to see about the Lux Power all in one inverters and they were unable to tell me if they had or had-available Current Transformers ("clamps") for monitoring L1, L2 or both like the little Chinese Blue Box 1000W GTIL we both have. I want to upgrade from my Chinese Blue Boxes and thought you indicated the Lux Power inverter(s) had the current measuring feedback to limit current when in a Grid Tied set up. Can you confirm they do (or don't) as I will order one and this battery if I know I can run it grid tied with Zero chance of ever Back Feeding the grid (like my Chinese Blue Boxes do so perfectly).
The lux power 12k did come with the two CT clamps to go around the legs of the main. Because I am installing as an off grid system I did not show those in my install. The CT go into ethernet ports and prevent back feeding the grid.
@@LandtoHouse Thank you for the replies. I did not see that in the Set Up or Owners Manual I downloaded from Big Battery for the 6K unit. Is there someone you recommend or a place I should go to get clarification on the CTs and their intended use (hopefully they are specific for not back feeding the grid when grid tied)?
As someone who knows Big Battery, has business with Big Battery, and knows the team and facility in LA, great review! These are great not only in design, you can also buy more modules and build as cash is available. Start small and grow to large. UL Certified for those looking and need for local zoning or electrical needs.
Thanks for the review Seth... These systems keep coming down in price (of course they are running a good sale right now), but still. Definitely cheaper that it was a year ago when I last looked at these and the additional 10% discount is awesome! Once my budget allows, this system is in the running with competitors to install in my whole-house backup.
Good to hear you have been looking into the Big Battery. The install process was smooth. Waiting on a 30amp cable to get the shop off grid. The Ethos is a serious battery. I can tell it is quality.
