@@GTKTheater Hey GTKTheater, I used to work with the Broadcountry Cinema 3 Theater in Magee,Mississippi.. That was late 2009 to early 2010, so it was only 3 months of me working there.. I really enjoyed my time there, but the theater is no longer in the area as it was closed down in 2010, but I tore movie tickets and that was my main job.. In fact that was my very first job I ever had as a teenager.. If I ever wanted to create my own home theater system, would I be able to do that, even though the only theater experience I have is tearing movie tickets? Speaking of getting your projector from Goodwill, I also used to work with Goodwill too.. I also worked in Dry Cleaning as well... But I loved the theater best of all, it's just so disappointing that we don't have a theater in Magee anymore.. I want to bring this small town to life with a theater one day.. I love the smell of fresh popped popcorn!!! Our theater (Broadcountry Cinema 3) had 3 theater rooms, a red room, blue room and a yellow room.. We even had a few arcade machines in the lobby as well as the front counter/snack bar/ticket window.. How many square feet is your basement where you made your home theater? I guess it's a one screen? Do you expect customers? That would be cool to have the whole neighborhood watching a movie.. Where do you get the latest movies to show them on screen?

i mean the difference absolutely is noticable, its just what quality you want. to get something fun and immersive you don't need much. to be blown away with a big smile across your face thats different.

Difference is not noticeable.. Has to be one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read on anything theater related. Until you have seen and heard a high end or even a mid tier setup this makes zero sense. I remodeled my theater and upgrade to a true 4k laser sony projector with 7.2.4 sound setup. I was absolutely blown away by what I was seeing and hearing. The projector image looks like a giant 4k TV and putting on a BBC 4k UHD documentary was absolutely breathtaking. It has change how I consume media. Before that I had a cheap W1070 Benq Projector.

Now this is what I call a DIY budget theater room and looks great. Dude this motivates me to do the same. I dont know why people spend over $20k to do something like this but you are a true testament of having a Theater room for such a low budget. Awesome job man. Your finished room looks very expensive and thats because of how of a good job you did. If I walked in that room I would have thought you spent over $15k. Simply great job man.

I've seen a lot of home theater videos, but this beats them all by far. I love people who manage to do something that is not expensive, for those who have money left over, with a simple click they can do something, and things have always been appreciated more, when you build them yourself, congratulations from Chile (excuse my basic english)

Ironically this probably doesn't. Theaters seem to all have upgraded since the pandemic to have giant reclining seats. That's probably why he scored these seats at a good deal. Normally a home theater is about improving/replicating the theater experience, but this might almost be a step backwards now. The biggest advantage of his home theater is that he is able to cram a lot of good quality seating (every seat has good audio/video position) into a small space

so many ideas I never even considered, so glad I saw your video and it gave me some direction on how to go about finishing my theater room. I do hope you continue to add on to this and make more updates.

The only thing for me that stands out is the drywall.. regardless of what you paint it and how dim it gets.. it really should be finished. On my theater I recently painted it flat black after seeing so many people doing that.. But I also game in my theater and some times I leave the lights about half way.. it would absolutely drive me nuts to have unfinished seams... but to each their own.. good theater aside.. btw, I need to track down a trash bin like what you have, lol.. that would be a cool addition..

Congrats on the room! Goes to show you don’t have to spend much to have a great movie watching experience at home. With that said, be careful as it is so easy to keep spending money making the room just a little bit better! I remember first learning about home theater and being shocked at how much money some people spend and thinking “You could go to a real theater a 1000 times for as much as that costs!” Nothing beats having that real theater experience at home whenever you want though.

7:35 yes and no. I mean if you're doing the whole thing on a super budget sure you're going to stick to used 1080p projectors. But having compared an old 1080p sony for $600 (with a new bulb) and a brand new vpl-vw325es side by side, the differences were night and day on overall clarity, brightness, and image processing, response time, etc.

It’s all about designing your home theater with off the wall creativity. This fellow has really gone cheap and his “ Home Theatre “ clearly shows. The entire atmosphere doesn’t even feel like a real theater. It’s a shame 😢to see people go cheap and think 🤔 it’s the best way to go.🤔😮🙅‍♂️. It’s called thinking 🤔 outside the box 📦 when it comes to designing a real home theater like 👍 my talented roommate has done ✅ with our new home theatre that is the world 1st ever Transforming Stage in a Home Theatre 🎭. ☝️😮👌👍Yes I said A Stage. Unlike 👎 this guy who went cheap. I didn’t even go over $1000 for ours. Go figure.

Awesome! Question.. I am trying to figure out the riser build. I just bought very similar seats and absolutely looking for some advise. I love your build and whole room. Thanks
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 4 месяца назад
It's very simple, first connect the seats in the front row to each other so you know the spacing of the boards on the floor that the seats will connect to. I used all 2"x6" and cut the first row for the floor by making them 2' each. The seats are attached 1" from the front of the boards and screwed in with anker screws and washers, predrilled to be sure I did not crack the wood. I then stacked 3 - 2"x6" boards across the back of the first 5 boards and nailed them together as I went and making the back of the next row the same height by stacking the same number of boards. For my room this make each row 4 - 2x6 boards higher with each row. Then I repeated the process two more times, I would test with someone sitting in front of you to see what the screen will look like, any blocking heads you can move up another board. The first row is 2' and the next two rows are 4' wide each so I cut a sheet of 3/4" plywood in half making the floor 2' for each row. I would recommend using full sheets of plywood so you don't have holes under your seats like I do. You would be surprised how many phones have been dropped on the hard floor. Good Luck!

Wow, good job. I have most of the equipment to do this very same thing, except that the MSRP of mine would be much higher, but I had to "do" a lot more to get the stuff, e.g. I have a $6000 receiver that I paid $300 for, but that's because I bought it for $800 used with a few other speakers etc., and I sold off those other parts for $500. So technically it only cost me $300, even though it's a really expensive receiver, and the same goes for my dozens of speakers, except a lot of them actually ended up in the plus column of my balance sheet... but I haven't actually done the setting up yet haha.

I fully agree with diminishing returns on more and more expensive equipment. You can pay 5x and get only 10-20% improvement. I don't know if you have a website or a blog, but what would be very helpful to fellow movie enthusiasts on the budget is a list of recommended budget models for receivers, projectors (regular and short throw), and speakers. There are lots of those sold on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, thrift and pawn shops, but how do we know which ones are decent? Did you buy yours randomly as long as they were cheap or were looking for a specific model?
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 2 месяца назад
Here is what I do, if I am searching for equipment and locate something, I google the model number to see how much it is. If the price is high on regular non-discount sites, this is a good indication that it is higher quality. If the price is in my budget I then read reviews to see if other people like it or have complaints. I have found that anything marked THX certified is a good sign and through trial and error I have come to find that some brands are better than others. I like Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon but stay away from Sony receivers. There are even higher quality brands but they don't find their way on to the second hand market as often, they get purchased quick. The great part about buying older equipment is there is a lot of historical data and reviews to let you know if you are buying something good or not and it is usually cheap enough I can sell or donate it if I don't like it and try again. When you get the good stuff it will last and give you a great experience and when you find something better you can replace it and keep the old stuff as a spare. You can also visit www.crutchfield.com and look at what brands are more expensive so you know what to look for when the make their way to marketplace or goodwill. Thanks for watching!

I just want to say that you've nailed three things at which all too many zillion-dollar HT's have failed: 1. More sense than dollars. 2. Multi-sub - including rear. 3. Dark black room! (May I suggest laying black carpet between the screen & 1st row, though:) Well done.
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 11 месяцев назад
You get it... I don't show it well in this video but behind the screen up to about 2 ft in front of the first row I have dark blue carpet so that with the lights down the space fades away. But this is such a good point, I didn't do it on purpose, it was just how the carpet remnants worked out. If they had be light like around the seating it would be distracting. Thanks for watching!

great stuff I do however categorically disagree with your statement at 6:45 ISH yours eye absolutely CAN tell the difference between 4k and 1080P at the proper distance. the further you get away from the screen the harder it is to tell
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater 6 месяцев назад
All things being equal it is hard to notice the difference, the point I am making is not that 1080p is better or indistinguishable from 4K. The point is not if, it is when to upgrade, I will upgrade to 4K when I can pay about 10% or less than what it cost new. Until then one can truly enjoy 1080p... I don't want people to feel bad if they upgraded at the top of the market. If you can afford it, congrats... for the rest of us, we will enjoy a great movie and keep as much of that green stuff as we can in the bank! here is a video comparing 4K and 1080 you might want to check out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_x-u8mUSFss.htmlsi=bejZRrH5q8d38AfD&t=412 as I said at the first, all things being EQUAL it is hard to notice the difference for most, not that there is no a difference. Regardless Thanks for Watching!

Looks pretty good! Would it be possible to change the seating to 11 people? I would always want MY seat to be in the center of the image. With 4 thats only doable by being offcenter with the whole seating array. So chose your favorite seating position and on that row make it only 3 seats / or 5. Uneven number so one Seat is dead center. Aweseome job overall.
@GTKTheater
@GTKTheater Год назад
Thanks for asking, I have enough seats to make it 15 or 5 in a row so someone would always be able to sit in the center of the screen, but the 4 just fit the room so nice and you know, it may sound crazy but with such a big screen I never feel like I am not centered in the screen, I think this is because it is a 110" screen. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Yeah, in the one I am building over the next few months, I am going to do a row of 3, then 4, then 5, so that there are two seats (in the first and third row) that are directly in the centre, and also it's only in the further back rows that anyone is very far off centre.

I have a viewsonic x10 4k, and there is a big difference over a cheap projector, i know because I've had ones in 200-400 range and they are ok but not great, the other thing to remember is the screen itself, best to get a grey screen over a white screen if possibl, and a good amp something around the 1000 euro's mark, if you have the funds a Nvidia pro, which AI upscales 1080p to 4k which is makes a difference. The main factor is the size of the screen once you go above 110ins you need 4k below that you can get away with 1080p. In have a 130 ins screen so 4k with a good good entry level 4k projector.

Something also interesting is the old school theater seats seem to no longer be a thing. I haven't been to the theater since before the pandemic but it seems almost all theaters seem to have larger reclining seats now. By going the route you did you were able to cram 12+ seats (all with relatively good seating position) into the theater whereas a lot of home theaters have 2 good seats and everything else is poor listening positiong for audio and image viewing.
