I love that even though he plays this like a speedrun, he still takes out the time to show off some glitches and watch cutscenes that he likes. It's really low stress and just fun to watch. ^^
I believe the official rules of the Any% speedrun only takes into account the in game time, meaning that time you waste watching the cutscenes does not affect the final time, but I could be wrong. Either way though, the official speedrun requires you to play career mode and play through last man standing on a fresh save so this run wouldn't qualify anyway. Its clearly just meant to be a just for fun thing.
Can you imagine what theyre thinking? Hey there's this dude climbing the ranks of championship boxer that knows your every move, when youre going to do it, and how to counter you.
Imagine paying $300 for a front row ticket and all the guy does is scream release the bogus and spin like a manic ballerina before being knocked out by a hobbit.
I get the impression that the WVBA in the Punch-Out games is like a boxing version of pro wrestling, where it's more of a spectacle than a sport. All the fighters seem more like performers, given how they prioritize their flamboyant stage personas and colorful, over-the-top theatrics over actual fighting. Maybe Mac is like a younger, stoic version of John Cena, where he's the straight-laced face that the audience roots for as he cuts down one heel after another.
I think my favorite part about this game is that every fight theme is a remix of the Punch Out main theme based on the nationality of the person you're fighting
King hippo brings what's basically a shield and bear hugger brings a squirrel also aran Ryan brings rope and like a brick of something. In short everyone cheats

It takes them 50 min to beat it. It takes me an hour every day just to realize I'm not good enough yet to fight Bald Bull (TD) after wasting half an hour beating up Macho Man.
Hey guys... little advice to shave time off your speedrun... and its very tricky, but works. Use a three-star punch on Aran Ryan ANYTIME when he attempts to headbutt you. This will knock him out from my experiences in playthroughs.
+MentalWyro That might be why it wasn't done here, in a marathon run - if you can block it and then just throw out the punch, then it's very consistent when it needs to be thrown. Better option than missing it.
The amount of learning, pattern and strategy memorization that has to go into mastering these Punch Out games is insane. I know speed runners say they don't actually spend THAT much time practicing their games, but in a game like this, Zallard has clearly put in extensive hours to memorize all the patterns for every fighter.
It was either beat up Donkey Kong or beat up Princess Peach. Not even joking, Peach was originally intended to be the secret fighter, but it was scrapped because it didn't look good to be punching a woman, even if it was boxing
the blindfolded runs make me think about if someone was really blind. devs should make some games that are based on sound or something for people who cant see that would be great. I love video games so much, I don't know what id do without them.
Blaze _ Some of those games rely on visual cues, take for example Screwbots. You dont know whether it'll be a white or black robot. I know this reply is a year old, but still.
it always feels good to watch these because so much effort is put in to do something as fast as possible and the applause when it works out in the speedrunners favor is amazing
Punch-Out speedruns really come down to RNG when it gets right down to it. No matter how much knowledge you have, how well you play, how frame-perfect your execution, it all means nothing if you can't manage to....... RELEASE THE BOGUS!
The couch here really made the runner work more on the commentary than he had to. Tried to explain buffering, gave up and then made the runner do it. Why even have a couch?
ashby987 Well, we both had our hard times. I can beat all of the fighters on title defense in one try (without rematch), except Soda Pop still gives me some trouble, and Bald Bull is annoying sometimes. Still haven't been able to defeat DK...
"this is probably the hardest fight in the game" ... next round, "this is probably the hardest fight in the game", next round "this is probably the hardest fight in the game", next round "this is probably the hardest fight in the game" -- WE GET IT!
Why does Aran Ryan’s icon in the upper right during his fights look like he has a mustache, or at least a bigger mustache then normal? Or am I the only one?
52:56 that mecanic make me remember of MTPO, when you fight sandman and he is on his uppercut phase, you can up punch him, he will dodge but immediatly try to punch you, so you can easily dodge and counter
