Hey everybody! On today's video, we are going to do an elevator tour in the iconic Cité Radieuse from architect Le Corbusier. That's right, this building was built in the 1950-60's in multiple cities, namely Marseille (the most famous one). So, today we're going to check the elevators in the Cité Radieuse of Briey in France.
Let's begin with the odd design of this building. As you can tell, the elevators only serve 8 floors but in reality the building is 19 floors. This is because of the "revolutionary" design of the building : all the appartements are in duplex which means that to gain as much floor space as possible they ripped of some landings. In short, you can find an elevator landing every 2-3 floors. Moreover, all these appartements are accessible by a creepy long hallway which French-Swiss architect Le Corbusier called "street" while designing the units.
Lastly, let's dive into the elevators! Unlike Marseille's cité radieuse, there are only 3 elevators : 2 main elevators & 1 rear elevator.
- Main elevators:
It is a set of 2 elevators that were installed in 1959. So far, I have no idea what they could have been. As far as I know, they got upgraded later on and then got replaced by Otis in the 2010's : full modernization.
- Rear elevator:
To finish, we have the rear elevator which was the best in my opinion : the most original one & with the most character. This one definitely had some original features like the wide door track that reminded me of American elevators. Next, it was way faster than the other ones. To conlude, I really think that this one was maybe upgraded by Otis with Elevonic 401 like what the Cité Radieuse of Marseille had.

Anyway y'all, sit back, relax, and enjoy this video :)

Magnifique ce bâtiment et les ascenseurs sont très rapides.
@elevatorsfromfrance_official
Entièrement d'accord! Néanmoins, j'aurais aimé filmer davantage le bâtiment et les ascenseurs mais j'étais assez pressé ce jour là.. d'où la vidéo faite dans le rush ^^
