It would have been REALLY nice if they would have included a feature to record max watts/amps to record what the surge watt needs are for items like freezers or refrigerators.
You should go by the manufacturers ratings, actual surge can vary depending on conditions so what you measure for a maximum one day may be less than the actual rated maximum that it might hit another day. Also the screen update time is pretty slow, it's not good at catching and showing spikes and dips that happen fast. It's better at showing you stats that remain steady for a full second or more.
It was easy for me to see the spike for my fridge, I just opened the door for a minute and closed it again, watching the meter. Showed the spike as the compressor kicked on, then went back to normal running usage.
Just add info, that for iron, the watt will not 1 KW/Hr, that number only when energize or turn on for heat up. when temp reach the heat setttng. heater will off and KW meter should about 0 watt, and when temp decrease, heater will on again.
What doesn't work about it? It measures electricity. Also it costs more than $6-7/USD so if your buying it for that much new then you're not buying a genuine "Kill-A-Watt" but a cheap knockoff clone.
