This is nothing new, but it sure does work well! I've been leaning on this fly even more in the winter months with the BWO hatches are strong. Awesome mid afternoon pattern to have in your box! What's your favorite hot spot color for this micro pattern?

Thanks for the vid. I fish the same river you're on and can personally attest to this fly working. Mine just has a slight variation with dark ice dubbing too go with the hot spot. Appreciate the tips I always learn something new

Great tie! That fly is a staple in my box and kills it on tail waters out here in Cali or anywhere you have large populations of Baetis.

Great fly, Zach. This thing really does work on that river. When I tie mine, I‘ll add a little brush of zap-a-gap to the thread body before wrapping the PT. Thinking it might help with durability but to be honest, I may just be talking myself into that.😉🎣
@FlyingTies
@FlyingTies 2 года назад
Haha it could help, I just don’t want to take the extra time

Great and simple ,i also add a lil bit of ice dub for extra shining :p

Nice, great fly. Thankfully I dont need to use anything more than a 16 here in NZ. I have a tough enough time see that. Nice vid too, smoothly done.

Another great video Zach! This is very similar to one I have been tying, though I've used CDL for the tail. I like the efficiency of using the same fibers of pheasant tail for the tail and the body like you are.
@FlyingTies
@FlyingTies 2 года назад
I probably should use CDL for the tail because it's more durable but I like the look of pheasant tail on these a bit too much lol

@@FlyingTies It does look great, and on this style of fly that is so easy to tie up, I don't worry quite a much about durability myself. For your followers that may use tinsel for some patterns, Joann Fabrics has the Sulky for buy 3, get 2 free. They are already less expensive that what most fly shops get for Sulky, and that makes it an even better deal. The Sulky is so durable.
@FlyingTies

Good call out on the sulky

@@Leavenotraceexpeditions I saw on the Joann website that they had Sulky on sale. When I went in to the local store they had a sign up that said "buy 3, get 2 free".

What's the least amount of weight you can effectively cast on your rig? For me I need at least 3mm total weight in beads/flies to cast decently and even then I can't get very good distance or accuracy. I see videos of guys like Devin fish like a single 2.3mm tungsten and I'm baffled. Like how do you cast out a rig far enough with that amount of weight? I use a thinner formula leader, but do I need to go even thinner? Is there something flawed in my casting I wonder?
@FlyingTies
@FlyingTies 2 года назад
I can fish a single 2.5mm bead up to 30’ but keep in mind if there is wind it’s a lot harder. Ultralight leader and tippet can help too. It’s hard to say without fishing alongside someone for sure 🤷‍♂️
