Doduo’s pre-evolved form actually has an explanation for the heads. Apparently the head that is fed less retracts back inside as a doduo and then comes back out as the angriest head of the Dodrio. It’s silly but I love that design so I would accept it 😂

Even tho I understand baby Pokémon are pretty much useless for the most part, I just like them. Especially if it’s an excuse to shoehorn in a more powerful evolutionary line in early. Ex. If Lapras for whatever reason got a baby form, maybe you can get it early on by rare encounter with fishing rod. Then you can raise that Pokémon and have it with you for most of the game causing a closer bond and being able to monitor its move set more closely. I also like baby Pokémon for design reasons and also because they can make a line feel more complete. Again I understand baby Pokémon don’t reslly need to exist in a lot of scenarios, but that’s just how i feel. I don’t mind a lot of the beta baby forms because they’re good designs and being more attention to more unpopular lines. Some are pretty bad but a lot are super cute and I love them. I do understand a lot were unneeded tho :(

I wouldn’t have been mad at a baby meowth honestly. That sprite was pretty fitting.

Here is the thing about baby Pokemon. I feel that their existence is more for lore purpose than for battle purpose.

one of my favourite pokemon is the beta baby growlithe.and i think baby pokemon really just exist for mostly lore reasons and so they have an excuse to make an even cuter version of a pokemon baby growlithe's first design looked like a freaking doll so atleast they made a better design for baby growlithe before scrapping it indefinitely

That first Pokémon was just made for promotional purposes and was not intended to be in Gold and Silver, but it possibly inspired Hitmontop, additionally the beta Marill shown in the video is a drawing of what a person remembers beta Marill looking like in the Spaceworld 97 demo.

I think my argument against preevolutions being harmful to the line is with how they could alter the stats to make it a smoother transition. Granted, they haven't always done that, but they could, and in my opinion, should. Chingling would have been more loved, if it heightened the stats of Chimecho, imo.

Baby pokemons aren't just about their base stats. What's more important is the design and the relationship between the pokemon and the baby. and I need baby grimer right now. It's adorable.

Wait, the 1st one is a beta Hitmontop. Sure a very early beta and before they decided to make it a part of the Hitmons but it’s still an early form of Hitmontop and therefore made it into the game.

I want to see more of baby meowth in every game because it is the most precious and adorable bean in the world

I believe that the beta evolution of Porygon would make sense since it would be a representation of how data could be changed into something completely different given enough time for a programmer. I also don't believe that Beta Hitmontop is naturally always balancing itself given the legs.

Actually funny thing is beta baby Ponyta, Goldeen, and Vulpix were cut twice. They were originally in gen 1, and then cut, brought to gen 2, and hilariously cut again.

Huh, I think I understand the thought process behind baby pokemon now that I realize they were planning on making a ton of them. The idea was probably created when they realized they were going to introduce pokemon breeding, which made them think, 'oh, people will love this, maybe it would be really cute to have a bunch of baby forms that looks like they were just hatched out of an egg'. Then they realized slowly that creating a new baby pokemon for every single pokemon line just wasn't viable, and it wasn't a great mechanic anyway. So they scaled it back but kept some of the ones they worked on, never quite abandoning the idea altogether.

I believe it was said at some point the devs really thought baby Pokemon would have been a lot more popular than they ended up being. Battling between friends was still just a side feature so the baby Pokemon were meant for those who just liked having cute Pokemon even if they were weak and worthless in battle. They were never meant to be meta because at that time, there was no meta.

I love baby pokemon. Baby Tangela is by far my favorite, but I would have really liked to see baby Vulpix since the one-tail design is canon in the pokemon mangas. I like the baby paras design, but I think it should just be Paras, same with baby Doduo, it's fun because Dodriou has three heads anyway and I find it weird when final evolution pokemon grow a new head.

Baby doduo is dark... It represents natural selection. The third head on the baby represents the many chicks that die. So doduo has only two heads. But the third head in dodrio happens because it has DNA to be a 3 headed Pokémon so it regrows a 3rd head... EWW

Honestly I like the idea of baby pokemon to pokemon that are too “big” or “adult like”, like... Tauros, Lapras, Kangaskhan, Sawk and Thro, etc. To me it’s just weird the idea that they are born... like... looking like an adult. Also, the fact that Kangaskhan is born with a baby on her pouch is unsettling.

The beta Doduo line could represent the fact that mother birds usually will care for the runt less then the other two baby birds, so it's rare that the runt will survive, but if it survives to become an adult, they can become bigger and stronger than they were as the runt

As far as the beta baby Pokemon noted here (and I know this video's 3 years old), to be honest I would love a Baby Paras, granted not the exact same sprite as shown, but I still see it as a possibility to add not only a aspect directly mentioned in the Legends: Arceus Pokedex entry where it mentions a baby paras without a mushroom ("Sometimes seen at the foot of trees in humid forests. The mushrooms on its back-called tochukaso-are not present on infant specimens and instead emerge as Paras matures"), but also gives us the chance of giving us access to 2 lines where the insect and mushroom are separated, it can even be 2 existing lines if needed. And I'd be fine with a Baby Meowth, Grimer, or Growlithe. Something like my Baby Paras idea where it gives the chance to make more evolution lines to either brand new ones or even to pre-existing Pokemon (like maybe adding a Baby for Kangaskhan to both give us a proper egg baby along with a 100% male counter to the existing line or allow access to regional variants), but also a chance to adjust some of the Pokemon stats to compensate and make the existing ones just generally better. Plus I think the idea is still cute and wish they revisited it with some of them, even though I understand the current reasoning for not wanting them. I'm not too hung up on the stat change since honestly that can be adjusted at any time in any future entry, really. THAT'S just a case of if they either have the drive or have the time to adjust them. I'm more interested in the evolution aspect, honestly most of my fascination with the idea came from me learning about a beta Marowak sprite where it had a baby in it's pouch like Kangaskhan and I spiraled into a rabbit hole of making 2 new evolution lines based on both gender and held item evos making a total of like 3 for the Cubone/Marowak line. Along with trying to figure out how they operate out in the wild and why we dont really see much elaboration and the whole "skull of its mother" thing or its weird relation to the Kangaskhan line (which I personally wonder if it was meant to be something like the Nidoking and Nidoqueen situation with Rhydon (unsure of its line) being the male counterpart).

Well actually with the baby don’t doduo it was supposed to be a pre-evolution that could evolve evolve into both stages

Imagine, all three baby doduos, living their life and then are caught by a trainer, one gets its heat stuck up its butt and the other two evolve, and then it gets its head out of its butt and the evolve again. Wow.

I always registered Hinazu/Baby Doduo as a sort of Exeggcute/Dragapult situation. It's a nest of baby bird siblings, but they evolve when they outgrow the nest, so they grow a second head so they don't get lonely. I mean, if Kangaskhan can be born with a baby and Drakloak and Dragapult can gain babies upon evolution, I see no logical fallacies there.
