Awhum Monastery and Waterfall - A Tale of the Ancient, Sacred, and Mystical Waters of Awhum. 

When I first heard about Awhum Waterfalls, I went online to look at photos and videos. The photos and videos I found online sparked my interest, so I decided to visit.
Although Awhum Waterfall forms part of the land gifted to the Monastery when they came to Nigeria, the Waterfall has been in existence long before the Monastery came into the picture.
The water from the Waterfall which is said to possess healing powers has been serving the people of Awhum decades before the Monastery came into the picture. The ancient waters of Awhum and its caves was a source of hope, comfort, and succor for the Igbos during the Nigerian civil war.
The people of Awhum (Ohum) call the Waterfall 'Igba'. it was after the Monks took over that it was given the name 'Waterfall'.
The Waterfall and it caves is sacred and holy. People from far and wide used to visit to collect the water for various purposes one of which is to ward away evil spirits.
Unfortunately, the rising level on insecurity in Nigeria has made the place unsafe for people to visit. Additionally, there have been complaints that those who visit do not respect the laid down rules and instructions for entering the cave and assessing the Waterfall.
This beautiful masterpiece and creation is a sight to behold. It is a national treasure and deserves to be preserved and memorialized for our future generation.
This video is my interpretation of the Mystical Awhum Waterfalls. It is my hope that this video will inspire everyone to appreciate God, nature, culture, history, and laid down rules and instructions.
Awhum Waterfalls and Cave is located in Amaugwe village of Awhum town in Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria.
