This has got to be the best version, the hardcore screaming goes so much better with this song. Also the instruments make it sound like a post-punk/rock song.
My cousin's uncle's grandfather's niece's daughter's best friend's daughter's boyfriend's brother is friends with someone who went to an Awolnation concert! His name is Ty.
This song would be so hard to play and sing live. He's doing a great job. It would be painful to sing because of the... Half scream(?) that the whole song is sung with in the studio version. I actually find the music in this quite refreshing. Great job AWOLNATION ^^
A lot of people seem to hate this version, but I like this much better than the studio version. I grew up in the punk era, when all the polish was taken out of music and you could actually hear the people behind the songs. Modern music bores me because it's all been buffed down to a colorless blob of sound.
I totally agree with you on that one, music is best when it's raw.....it holds onto all of it's raw emotions....music today that is polished and seemingly without flaw is without emotion. Love your definition of today's music.
***** There's actually many different reasons to fly the confederate flag. Most people who do nowadays are flying it because they racist. Most fly it as a big fuck you to the government. It's like a symbol of anti-conformity. It means "I will not give up my values because the man doesn't like them". Which, in the end, is respectable. In my opinion.
***** Exactly I was born and raised in the south and I still live in the south thats why I proudly fly the rebel flag I aint racist I'm glad you posted this comment because you know what your talking about thank you.
Gotta respect an artist who can jump on stage and sing a heavily distorted song without the aid of the computer. He's gonna be expecting criticism, that's all part of the game. He sung it spot on, same as the album version near-enough. Only difference is the post-recording mixing. Raw talent will beat pseudo talent everyday. 10/10
No, he didn't sing it "spot on." It was bad. Have you ever heard of Phil Anselmo? Corey Taylor? They sing heavily distorted songs ON CUE and in tune, without sounding like their voices are going to break in half. This guy was not designed for this music.
Andrea Dodd I cant even understand why someone wouldn't be a fan of this version, its amazing. they are haters and dont understand how hard it is to recreate this kind of song. radiohead much? thats a good thing...
"the engineer is the man" You mean producer, and no, it's not hard to double vocals and add heavy doses of pitch correction. Listening to the studio version I almost cringe at how extremely obvious the pitch correction is, like they didn't even TRY to hide it
This is a one of the greatest love recordings I heard in a long time. This is when Awolnation sounds like a really good band, the studio version is still equal in my opinion.
You can visibly see how much strain this song takes for him to sing. I do like the studio version better, but the guitar solo in this...damn it sounds nice.
@@martinspear1105 LOL. Really? Ha ha ha ha ha How old are you, child? If you're older than 12 you're probably riding the short bus to school and Mom should take away the computer...
Bravissimi! Adoro
I really love the rough sound he made, even though without autotune it seems like he's hurting his throat and our ears, but this is a crazy song, the singer should sound crazy
I love the Raw power of the band. The power of the vibe, clear and disguised distortion that prove music can inspire and revive that part of being glad you heard life recorded. Jmo
@@optic80 Yeah and no? Alan does the changes quite well but watch the keyboardist. How far back does "rasp" really go in recorded music? Joplin, Jagger, Stewart, Rogers, McCartney (a long list could follow) sang with "rasp" back in the 60s. And THEY had plenty of American Blues singers from the 40s and earlier to learn / "borrow" from... Ah well, I should just listen and maybe listen again, and celebrate the song and performance for what it is - beautiful and live.
I just wrote this while listening to this song. Sail, Sail away from life from the world itself, Sail into a world beyond the one we live in, Sail to the world in your mind, Sail away and free yourself from all worries and problems, Sail to a place where no one can go except you, Sail to your own private escape your own private world, Sail with your imagination stop thinking for a moment and let yourself be free.
How can you hate this yet love the studio version? Take away the music and he sounds just like this. Yeah, maybe he doesn't sound like an angel but his voice is raw and edgy and some people, including myself, like that.
Yeah, that's because he is. It's unfortunate really. I love this band, but he is only going to last a little longer before needing vocal surgery, assuming he doesn't learn proper technique.
It's the difference between those who like packaged processed donuts as opposed to an apple of the tree. If you grow up on donuts, the apple actually does not taste good and you think the natural fruit is bad. Awol is playing live - that's a real apple. Britney for example is packaged pretty and lipsincs for the last 12 years right - is totally processed - and some people just grew up on Britney. How fucking sad.
Michael Jackson used to lipsync most of the time from the 1980's til his death and we all know how good he was, live and in the studio. Most of the artists who do lipsync only do it because they have to dance or do something that makes singing uncomfortable and hard. And so what, Awolnation is singing live but it's not good at all.
I really don't know what your problem is, guys. I mean I think it isn't easy to perfom this song live, and of course it sounds different than the studio recorded version. But in my opinion Awolnation did a very good live performance with that. In fact I find it actually better than the studio recorded version. And it's amazing how Aaron Bruno can sing/scream like that, but that's a matter of opinion I guess. (Maybe because his voice remind me a bit of Kurt Cobain's x) )
