Very good tutorial! For the terminal usage is better to use SSO login, so you don't store any credentials in plain files. I would also go for creating an S3 bucket and specify Glacier Storage Class on file upload (that's what AWS recommends now in 2024). It's very easy to setup with object lifecycles (e.g. moving to Glacier class after +30 days)
this is awesome. although it can be updated because some of the menus have changed. Also it would be interesting to actually make an s3 glacier into a glacier deep archive in S3. Would also be nice to see how to delete a Vault in S3 glacier.
I set up SNS and S3. Confirmed the email subscription. After running aws glacier upload-archive, still did not get the notification after 12 hours. Is something wrong. How to troubleshoot?
You only need your AWS account. Log into the AWS console and see what archives you have, and you can download the files in them. You don’t need any S3 storage to download from Glacier.
I can imagine that all cloud servicse provider in 10 years will open its own university, to studie all functionalities they will be providing.. this is too comlicated and not really easy to setup :D .. never mind .. thank you for video :) .. Very good manual.
I’m not really sure that I understood correctly, are you saying that you don’t see your uploads in the glacier interface? You won’t see there the files themselves, only how many there are, and it’s only updated once a day
@@absprog activate today my aws account....log in and Amazon respond with this message "Your service sign-up is almost complete! Thanks for signing up with Amazon Web Services. If you’re unable to access AWS services after that time..." WHY? I cant use S3 glacier!!!
Very convoluted and tiresome. I casually wanted to use this service, but I see it is meant for professionals. I will just get external drive and make do with free cloud storage options.
