AX-5 Common Problems (part 1) 

Super great company to help. Answered questions without a problem as I’m tearing down one to fix a problem on. If I have to buy a rebuilt one I know who I’m calling.

I have a 94 wrangler with the 4 cyl, when I got it the AX 5 trans sounded like it was grinding all the time, and no reverse. I found a "good deal" on an AX-15 so I ended up swapping that in using the Camaro clutch and the Dakota bell housing. It works, but goes clank clank clank in reverse which I assume is a missing tooth. I bought another "good deal" AX-15 for parts, but the shifter is locked up, so I'm going to try your tip, pop that plug out and see if I can move that gear around. If I'm able to shift it after that, I'll swap it into my YJ and see how it drives. Thanks for this

My shifter retainer broke one of the ears off. I need to locate another shifter. 1984 Jeep Cherokee Chief w/2.8l V6 and a Aisin AX5 5 speed & 4-wheel drive.

Everything works well except 4th gear is pulsing on fwy. Shift back to 5th and sound goes away. Bearing?

Can I get a price on a AX15 conversion kit. I have the crappy transmission.

I have a 99 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder 2.5l. I was driving down the highway in 5th gear and suddenly I lost 5th gear. I shifted down to 4th and it was fine shifted back up and nothing. I also have no 1st, 2nd, 3rd or reverse. I just bought this Jeep a few weeks ago just to use as a toy and I wasn't planning on throwing a bunch of money into it. Do you have any idea what is going on?

Can you link the gear saver for 5th gear? I have lost 5th gear in a brand new transmission for my 99 Wrangler.

My 98 5 speed 4.0 I have 1 through 5 but no reverse Try to go from first to reverse or even put it in reverse and it pops out immediately making a little grinding noise ?

I've got a 92 ax5 and it locks up in reverse and stops the jeep and I can hold the shifter back in reverse and it will unlock and start moving what is the issue

Having problems on mine on third gear some type of clattering noise all other gears a not as noisy. I have a 99 tj with a banger. Another question; hm for a reconditioned trans and shipping to Guam.

How much extra torque usual causes the 5th gear to go out?

Hey boss, you’re talking about the reverse light switch plug correct? To remove and shift gear back?

What will cause a noise that sounds like someone dumped a bag of bolts in my transmission, but only when in fifth gear? My guess was the 5th gear retainer clip, but I pulled the shift tower and rod and can see that the retainer is still in place.

Are you builder 9094 cause that guy🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️Cause he sent me wrong trans then sent me out another one and that replacement had metal shavings in it🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
