Thanks for putting all this into one nice video Leon. Your drive and pre-EQ blocks definitely get the Axe-Fx much closer and close to the real 2290. My favorite thing to do in the Fractal editor is place the SDD preamp in front of the 2290/Mod delay block in addition to your pre-EQ high frequency emphasis. I find that the SDD preamp block adds that bit of harmonic edge that I love when hitting my 2290's input so it's tickling the red LED into overdrive. The SDD preamp instead of the Tape Dist in the drive block also makes it feel really alive under the fingers. I'm loving the sound of the new TC 2290 pedal into three channels of NAM for the ultimate 2290 wet/dry/wet rig. This is the closest I've heard to the sound of a TC 2290 into three really great amps, which is how the original designers actually intended it to be used in the ultimate guitar rig.
Having had a TC 2290 and never got the best out of it, pre YT days. This is the most Excellent tutorial on the 2290 and on the Axe after reviewing the 2290 Pedal I have ever seen. Well done Leon, I hope Fractal and TC give you an excellent mention ❤😅😅😅
I had no idea the 2290 had so many features except for modulation. Thank you for the great teaching. The trem and flange tricks sounded really fascinating and I liked them. My favorite delay is of course the 2290, because it was always remembered as a unicorn during my childhood due to its expensiveness and rarity in my country. Haha, there was always something like boss dd3 at my feet instead of 2290 ;) When I first purchased the ax8, I was really happy to finally be able to own and make noise with the 2290. 🤘🤘⚡⚡
It's just mindblowing how just one type in one block in the Axe-FX has so much to offer. I don't think one lifetime is enough to learn and play with all parameters in AxeFX - haha! Amazing playing and demo.
There is a video where the modelling of the 2290 is explained (afair while the 2290DT plugin came out). They found out that the 2290 was a analog delay and "digital" was some kind of a buzzword in the 80s. It seems that the 2290 was some kind of digital controlled analog delay.
The delay line is digital and uses a sampling technique called adaptive delta modulation (ADM), but there's plenty of supporting input circuitry and feedback/filtering that is analog. This category of digital delay is often called a "digital delay line" or "DDL", in contrast to newer units which use dedicated DSP chips to handle all of the delay feedback/filtering in the digital domain.

Leon, im seriously contemplating getting an Axe Fx because of your channel. Much cheaper than sourcing the original rack effects, dont have to worry about aging components, and it still sounds excellent. I just hope i could wrap my head around how the Axe FX works. A bit intimidating to be honest!
You can make it as simple or complex as you like. It's way easier to roll your own preset on Axe-Edit than it is to wire up a rack IMO. You can also grab my free blocks library if you get one with all the classic rack effects already dialed in and matched ;)
Absolutely loved this - My hate for flangii (love that word) is reconfirmed, but everything else sounds gorgeous. The Trem Delay is super cool. I don't like Trems much, but the Trem Delay gives the same kind of vibe without the trem choppiness (That I don't like, but others love)

Hi Leon! Any idea as to how make it into a ping pong, instead of just pan? I noticed you haven't covered that in the video. What about assigning a modifier to echo pan with envelope, so each note bounces to the other side, or something like that? Thanks!

Great vid, as usual, but what about 2290 type sounds for those of us who can't afford the high-end Axe FX? You know, the stomp box crowd? I know you did a review on the reissue pedal, but it was through an Axe FX...how about a demo through a budget, amp-and-stompbox based rig?
This makes me want to learn the Axe 2290 before buying the TC P2290 pedal. It looks like it has more functionality in the Axe than the pedal especially wave forms. I had a TC2290 rack always found it difficult to use, spending many hours trying stuff, a manual as big as it, in the time when no one to learn from , the pedal looks reasonably easy. I need to understand the more, modulation and eq in the Axe more Whats your thoughts
