Aaron, again a super education video. When I need to review some skill in SketchUp, I always look for your Square one videos. So restful and clearly explained. A big thanks!!
These videos are very helpful. I've been using su pro for over two years and still discover in the basic videos tricks and techniques that I had not properly learned. Thanks for your good work!
Hi! You have nothing to apologize for, Aaron. Who needs it - he will understand what was meant. 😁 Glad you're alive and well! Waiting for new videos on your channel!
Thank you as always Aaron. I've always been hesitant about changing the axes tool for a specific task because I've had trouble resetting it afterword. As you mentioned, I've used inferencing instead. I'm going to open a file right now just to have fun playing around with this.
Thanks Aaron! That right click on the axis that brings up a unique axis menu is a surprise. A very nice surprise! Thank you! Love SketchUp. Recomended it to my college students.
Aaron, while you covered _global_ axes manipulation, the Axis Tool has special functionality for groups and/or components that's particularly helpful when some elements within a model are parallel or perpendicular to global axes and other elements are not. This makes editing geometry a breeze no matter the orientation of the container (group, component) to the global axes. This is often a godsend when working with imported content, as well. I'd venture to guess that every SketchUp user has battled problems associated with containers askew from global axes. Learning how to effectively use this tool saves users countless hours!
Great stuff, Aaron! You could also mention how to fix the new axis position in case one wants to come back to it later. I would do it with a scene but there may be other way to do it. Cheers.
This is great. I have been using Sketchup since 2007 and have never figured out how to reset the axis to 0,0,0. Thanks. Hope this works in my older versions.
Hey Aaron, one thing you could have shown...how objects drawn on say the angled plane react while on that plane. For instance, the push pull tool. Does it pull/ push the circle perpendicular to the face it’s drawn on or to the base plane. I know the answer but for learners for class 101’s. Thanks and stay safe.
Thanx for the video, Aron. One thought though.... If you change the axis, it would be cool that het view-buttons (the houses) would adjust to the axis as well :-) All the best wishes to you there in the USA.
Aaron, If you have moved or placed the axes to align with a face of your model can you then use the buttons on the view toolbar to align your view with any surface? So that the 'Align View' option in the popup menu is the same as using the Top view button on the Views toolbar. It seems like they take you to the same view or is that just a coincidence.
Aaron why is that I am not able to get the menu on clicking the axes? I have 2021 Pro. Also would like to know how to. Say I set the red and green. The blue takes the vertical direction downwards. Is there a means to make it point upwards? This is also the same with either the red and green, is there an option to set the direction along the set axis. I am saying this because there is a noticeable difference when I am trying to draw a line or rectangle, I grows in the positive direction of the axis but is kind of difficult to make it do the inference.
Thank you for this video. One question. I have the axes in a new position but the top view button shows me the view according to the default position of the axes. Is there any way how to change it? Or do you have an advise how to ease a modeling of a house which is not directly to the north after the downloading the geolocation? Have a nice day.
Thsnks for the video, i would be great to be able to easily go to top , side views etc, but for some reason my computer does not do that when using the menu?
Very good information. I just discovered this recently and possibly caused problems for myself. I will have to explore the reset function. One thing I’m experiencing is when I import a model from one saved file into another (either from one I’ve created or from the SketchUp Warehouse), it comes in upside down. Does this happen because I’ve messed up the axis in my model? How do I prevent it?
@@AaronMakingStuff Aaron, does it make a difference when you choose the red and green axis, which direction from the origin (right or left) you choose?
Hi. Thanks for your videos. Do you know if it os a way to show under the tools icons the shortcuts? When we are new in sketchup its not easy to remember every one. And if i just see the shortcut beside the icon will be easy to learn
Not sure if still available, but yrs ago you could purchase blank keyboard overlays and fill in the areas provided for writing in short cuts for any given program. With all the different style keyboard now, who know if they are still out there. Here is one I found. keyshorts.com/products/custom-keyboard-stickers-builder
The shortcut keys can be found in the menu next to each item. There is an option to show screen tips on tool bars (on windows right click anywhere on the toolbar, select [toolbars...] then [Options] tab, finally check the Show screen tips box), I wish they can include the shortcut key in there. Or theoretically you can customize the toolbar item text (on windows) but it doesn't work for me, 1- right click anywhere on the toolbar 2- right click the item on the toolbar 3- select button appearance 4- select Button & Text 5- Set the button text as needed 6- click OK the button now has a reserved space for the text but unfortunately it doesn't appear.
The Square One videos show only base SketchUp commands. No Add-Ons here! The fundamentals of everything here is the same for Free, but the UI may change in some cases.
Ugh... I know, I know... I used to say axes for one or multiple... then someone pointed out the pronunciation of ax-EES and now I don’t know what to say when... I’m actually very self conscious about this!
@@AaronMakingStuff it’s not that it’s wrong, as Axes is the plural of Axis, so long as it’s pronounced with a long “e”. I.e. pronounced “axeeeee”. Not like the axes you would use to cut down a tree.
@@AaronMakingStuff either way, I hope you keep making the videos!! But, if it helps... for "I" or "E" depends if its 1 or 3. I think that still rhymes with a US accent... "E" and three??!
