Really like this thing have changed the servos and added weight by adding a brass front diff cover used my personal favourite of adding weight by putting BBs in the tires they roll in the tires so it stays right at the lowest point, I also removed the springs to lower the CG.

I said this on IG but yeah it does have a toy car look and feel and they might be banking on the nostalgia. BUT, it’s really cool that axial is putting 4wd, longer travel shocks on an rtr, it’s really going to pave the way for us people that enjoy micro crawlers more than the bigger scale stuff, and it’s going to put a lot more of this stuff out in the market. People should take into account this is a pretty budget friendly rtr. More competition later on is definitely good for this market.

I think its great that Axial has added a new rig to their 1/24 scale line up! The scx24 is a very mature platform at this point, yet they decided to bring across some of the technology that was in clear need of improvement. Namely the weak stock steering system and motor! A missed opportunity? I have not purchased one at this time for this reason. All that said this is a great option right out of the box for someone getting into the wonderful world of mini crawlers!

Can’t wait till you mod the crap out of this little rig, can’t wait to pick one up!

Stock-for-stock it needs a lot of work just like the scx24 but I think it's a better starting point and considering it's only 20 or $30 more I think it's worth it

I really like the rig other than a couple things that totally can be fixed with some modifications so I would say the ESC is one of my biggest let downs being that it’s not much better if it is at all then the V1 esc definitely not as good as the V2 esc 😢 Great video though Adam, your video was awesome 😎 thanks for all the info

Well, I bought a Danchee Ridgerock on “accident”. Wish I had found my Axial stuff first, would rather have bought this over the Danchee mostly due to its size, and secondly due to aftermarket support.

Should I get this or just get the alloy chassis and buy the electrics and wheels as most of the car will get upgraded anyway, what's your thoughts, thanks

For all scx24 witch one do you think is better that the other? Jeep? Gradiator? Bronco?C10?

4ws: if I'm running 4ws it has to be independent 4ws. No question. Paired 4ws is a disadvantage imo

Since the wheels are hollow are u able to take it apart and out ball bearings in there?

"Its got a toy look to it." I have a Traxxas Ultimate Desert Racer that I have over $2500 in. I have put more money into my TRX-4 2021 Bronco on scale accessories and "upgrades" than my 1st two real cars cost. Yet to the rest of the world EXCEPT those into RC who know.... These are WALMART toys and you can't convince them otherwise. Learned to NEVER talk about how much I have into my "toys."

My Betty turned out nice. Thanks for the color. My AX24 came with the servo savers so loose the steering wasn't working very well. A bad first impression given the light weight. I put brass everywhere including steering links and servo trays for AGFRC servos. The only thing I don't have yet (it's in the mail or should be soon) is the brass skid, and I haven't put brass knuckles in the back yet. I'm hoping it makes the difference I need to get the heavy brass wheels off of it. I wish I had more wheel speed than the Injora 50/50 gives though. Do you think I would give up too much low end torque and slow speed with a 50/66? Thanks again. I would not have one of these if you had brushed it off.

Do you think the rear axel from this would fit in the SCX24 for a cheap 4WS upgrade? The cheapest kit I found was on eBay for $120, and that doesn’t include the transmitter/receiver needed to make it work.

I'm sorry but I feel like it should cost 60-80$ knowing your going to need to spend 60$ on servos. I'd have no problem spending $160 if it came with better servos and electronics.

I just picked one up a couple days ago. It's definitely the most capable mini crawler out of the box that iv seen. It's the perfect crawler for someone that isn't interested in doing a ton of upgrades. I think just some wheel weights alone will make a huge difference.

awesome vid. I'm trying very hard to not but this one and add more to my 1/24 crawler collection but this thing off the bat is sick. i just finished converting my deadbolt to 4ws but i can't trim the rear steering. is this one able to trim front and rear steering? can you also feature the transmitter on 4ws operation also. thanks in advance.

In my opinion all that is new about this is bad. I don't think it ugly though and maybe not everyone has a problem with the lag in the 4WS when changing modes. The wrong model and geometry for a stack of electronics that high. You have to let go of the idea of tucking the body in or it will become a ritual. A bonus I'm more happy about than the buggy is the tires and wheels are perfect to put on the Betty replica I'm putting together (just a shelf queen) and these need better. Waiting on the Yellow for that but today I learned the color is green (color blind). Can you recommend a Tamiya spray color for the green? Backed with silver? Kind of like the green Injora buggy isn't it? Back to the AX, If it looks like a toy it looks like a toy that is doing a very good job of looking like an early RC. Impressed by your improvements in this thing. Someday. I have a built Injora rock buggy and a built Cayman (both micro komoto) that you talked me into getting that need tweaking. Thanks for doing what you do here.

Great video, this seems to be almost RFC (ready for comp) crawler the shocks seem to not be oil filled so Injora shocks and Emax servos and some Injora rims & tires too would make it a very capable cheap 1/24 comp crawler

This does seem like a cool little rig, I might pick one up eventually. It does drive me nuts though that they don't fix the widely known issues like the sloppy steering and garbage servos it's just kind of a you'll get what we give you and you'll like it type of attitude , there's no way they don't know about these issues by now, they just don't seem to care to fix them.

It’s definitely more capable than a stock Scx24 but I believe that the scx24 chassis is better and at full upgraded they will probably be better at different things but my money is on the scx24

I think Axial, with this and the SCX24's are hitting a price point to get you in with a basic model. Also good for kids to get started with as the stock parts are cheap to fix. But I think, if the economics were good, having a second version would be a very welcome option. Maybe SCX24-S/AX24-S versions. Something for the more advance/adult hobbyists. Clear body so one could custom paint their own. Emax servos. Long can, more powerful motor. 3/4 pc alum beadlocks. Good tires. High clearance links. Maybe some brass up front to boost performance up hill. A co-branding deal with Injora might be a fruitful marriage. At least give people a higher performance and durable option so they can play with it more seriously as stock then have to spend hundreds to make it truly usable. In my mind, there's a risk of loosing customers when they see all the YT vid's of people having to spend a bunch on aftermarket parts and learn how to work on the vehicles. Some folks just want to play and aren't into the build side of the hobby. I'd really love to see a company come out with a build your buggy/crawler/truck kit. Go on a website and pick your chassis. Then next, based on that, pick your links. Then motor, body, axles, servo......everything. Then offer it delivered as a box of parts, a built chassis/clear body, or RTR with Tx/Rx added in. Have it so it's 20% cheaper than buying all the stuff individually. That would be awesome!

Anyone that still hates this is stubborn or lazy. It’s a cheap out of the box scx24, what does everyone expect, modding is literally 50% if not more to this hobby other wise it would be boring (to me). Can’t wait to see more upgrade videos from you and watch more minds be changed, im getting one.

I have been looking to pick up an SCX24, but really wanted a full crawler look and this is it. Please do a best bang for your buck video like you did for the Deadbolt. The vertical climbing is disappointing, I am hoping it climbs like a mountain goat once you add weight down low. Thanks for your videos, my son and I really enjoy them.

I've just recently got back into RC again, never done rock crawling before and decided to give it a try. I bought a axial utb18 Capra as my first rig did a few mods and I really enjoyed it outside. What I didn't know was buying my second rock crawler the fms fcx24 a week later was when i got bit by the RC bug again. Which led me to buy the trx 4m, then the furitek cayman pro , and finally this little gem the xc 1 which I received a few days ago. All I have to say is out of the box this thing is impressive. I can't figure out why some people have a problem with this $160 rtr rig. Every crawler ive bought was with the intention of upgrading performance and making it my own with exception to furitek which I'm using as the marker against the others. That said this thing is a blast to drive and has huge potential to be something more. For a $160 bucks I think its well done and better than average for sure.... Would I have paid more for better servos linkage and motor... Absolutely.

I’ll save you some headache. 33mm upper links in the rear, with 58.5mm lower rear links. Those servo trays will fit. Also throw some +5mm on the wheels and it becomes a ripper

Weight down low and better tires. Ax24 is kinda growing on me a little. I'm not much into comp crawler style rigs, but.. may have to get one.

I have had mine like a month and like it so far. It is definitely top-heavy and struggles on steep hills, but more then makes up for it in obstacles like rocks, logs, and tight spaces. Love the 4ws and ease of operation. Do wish steering was a bit more rugged, so we will see on that. Axial knows most will buy upgrades and designed it that way. Still fun out of the box, I am pleased with it. Great review also.

Thanks for the review. I preordered on a whim and received mine over the weekend, but haven’t opened it yet. Not sure whether I’ll keep it or not. What I’m wondering is if we could move everything over to an aftermarket scx chassis with some taller shock mounts. Just thinking out loud, don’t mind me 😂

Awesome indoor course & great videos. I got over drive gears for the front 1st & it’s a great improvement in climbing. Next is a furitek stinger combo for the super slow crawl. Even stock it’s pretty impressive.

Do the shocks fit the scx24?

Is there a way to control the rear steer independently ?

with some widening, the right weights, and a servo upgrade I think they will be crazy. However I ordered two new axial hex's and they are threaded grub type screws instead of the slide through pins we all know, which two of the 4 wouldn't even tighten far enough down to let the wheel fit over it, then stripped 2 of the grubs that are even smaller hex's than the .050 normal sxc24 when tryin to remove them. So I have two stuck on there and I can't get my knuckles off to put the brass knuckles and weights up front smh. Still waiting on support.....Love the rig and can't wait to get it goin! I ordered one. I was hoping for better if this is V3 though. There are better servos that are cheaper that would pay for better links I think. It's good that is the same in most regards in that we have the familiar parts to make it good.

I think the brass skid plate would be a good 1st upgrade, it seems like a little sprung weight will settle the body down quite a bit.

Good video man. I got mine on Sunday and already added the Axial brass belly pan and carbon fiber chassis. Have stuff on the way to help with the steering as I have already noticed the front servo bogging down.

For some reason I don't really care for the lights can they be toggled on and off from the controller? 2. Is the four-wheel steering variable from the controller? Is there a trim adjustment just for the four wheel steering?
