Great video! I really liked the running footage with commentary. I have been running a custom 4WS Capra and love it. I’m sure many more people will realize how fun it makes the Capra.
Compare this radio to what comes on the $150 redcat Ridgecrest crawler with full radio mixing for the steering and it's really sad. The radio setup axial chose is only a little better than soldering a 3 position switch into a tq3 radio like people used to do.
Capra seems to be the best rock crawling. It's like climbing a spider attached to a rock. RU-vidr's rc car control is like a pro. it was a great video👍👍👍
I wanted a 4ws rig but since Axial doesn't offer a kit version of theirs, I bought the 2ws Capra kit and converted it. I modified the cage to clear the servo and moved the servo back 5mm to clear the receiver box. I use a 6 channel TX so I have independent front/rear proportional steering, functional dig and can turn my lights on/off via a switch on the TX. My radio system has telemetry so I get feedback on the rigs battery without having to buy a special battery. The way the controls are setup I never have to take my hands off the TX and never have to take my eyes off the rig. The motor is a Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion Pro with built-in ESC and FOC. This makes it much easier to fit everything in and wire it up. Normally in order to get the dig function, you have to buy a specific Spektrum servo because a key part required to use the linkage included in the Capra is not included in the kit and only comes with said Spektrum servo. I got around this by 3D printing my own adapter in order to use which ever servo I wanted and the included servo saver dig linkage. Pretty shady of Axial if you ask me. Still, I love my 4ws Capra. It's one of my most capable crawling rigs.
I’ve been wanting a capra since they first came out but keep getting distracted with other vehicles. After this video I’m sold on the four wheel steer Capra.
Excellent video, enjoyed learning the updates and watching it run the course. I just found out, and used a program card on the firma 40. Makes a huge difference!!
Great video. I mainly like to drive my rigs and not do a lot of upgrades. When the first Capra came out, it reminded me too much of my Bomber. However, this new version seems very impressive using the 4WS on difficult climbs. I will probably add this one to my collection.
There is no drag brake box stock. I bought the same Currie edition, I put a 1080esc with the stock 35t motor and changed the pinion to a 13t and now it has plenty of drag brake. And I’m using a fly sky gt5 and I can adjust my rear steer like my front steer. It’s a very amazing Rc and I’m very happy with it!
Great video and great job 👏 👍 i have been wanting a capra, almost picked up one at axialfest this year, but got a scx10 2 instead that was my first axial crawler,i have a trx4 defender that i have completely upgraded and the scx10 2 is a comp rig now and has all vp f9 axles and all links and everything rockpirate rc upgrades as well, now i am seriously considering buying the 4ws capra to add a buggy to my Arsenault of rigs, i also have the ryft and a scx24
I would recommend it .I just brought the red one also and your video is spot on for the info you provided thanks for the honest none biased review lol so many big words from myself I'm just a simple mechanic with a rc addiction I already have one capra maybe time to downsize 🤔nah what was i thinking about the one with the most toys wins have a great day everyone and get out of the house and play
Josh Thanks for the information as always great content. It might not be 100% up to your standards, over all I'm glad you approve of the truck. I like it myself and its on the list. Keep the content coming and have a great holiday. Safe Travels.
4ws is cool, but how in 2021 do they offer it without a radio that mixes the steering? 2 buttons to steer the rear? Redcat had a radio with 4 wheel steer mixing and 4 steering modes 10 years ago...on a crawler that cost $150! I feel like axial really cheaped out here...this radio is only slightly better than how we used to install a 3 position switch into a traxxas tq3 to run rear steer on crawlers 15 years ago.
They did it specifically because that is how it is done in the competition market. We never use mixed steering in competition, because independent has proven over and over to be more powerful. I knew when I saw that they did it this way that people would feel the same way that you do, but I fully agree with their choice. I don't run Spektrum radios personally, and I'll be changing this truck over to my Futaba but I'll still be programming it exactly the same as it is on the stock radio.
because mixed steering is garbage. No one that actually uses rear steer to crawl wants mixed steering. And yes, I'm still running Traxxas radios with a 3 pos switch on my crawlers.
What would be the easiest fix for the drag break issue. It’s surprising that it would not have a really good drag brake. I’m assuming there’s no way to program it to increase it. I had 2 RC’s for my top priority buys. Now I have three & this one now sits on top of that list for the simple fact I have crawlers already & one rock racer so a buggy not just gives me a new RC but adds another style to my collection.
I haven't tried to plug it into either the spektrum programmer of a hobbywing programmer to check on the adjustability of the drag brake. I assume that there is a little more that can be cranked into it.
Love your stuff, man. I own 4 VS4's. And all my other trucks have some Vanquish or Incision on them. Quick question, does the reciever have 4 channels or will I have to change out that too if I want to use the dig? Love your commentary driving vids. As always, Have fun
Would you highly recommend this truck over a trx4? I have a trx4 TRAXX edition but looking to grab another crawler for the son and I and I have my eye here. The 4 wheel steer is intriguing and it looks like a monster out of the box considering that course you was on it was fun to watch! The way you talk in the trans scares me from getting it. But I don’t I do what I seen in this video lol any feedback is appreciated! Thanks love the video.
Great video! Thanks. The gearing is strange, waaay too fast. I have only one crawler trx4 Bronco 2021. What do you think is this one a good option? Or another 4w driving car? Thanks
Why can't axial make a complete rig? Pick dig or 2 speed. Pick 4ws or dig. Pick this or that. Why can't we have it all in one? At least they didn't put a jeep body on it...
I think the gearing in the capra is pretty good for mixed fast and slow to use it more like a U4 but no sway bar option makes its faster handling no so good. Do you have much issue with the rear tires holding straight when not wanting to rear steer?
The problem is that there isn’t enough reduction to put the motor is a proper load range. It will overheat motors if you try technical terrain without enough power. It could do fast and slow still with proper gearing and the correct motor choice. The gearing on this truck was a mistake that was overlooked until too late.
hey i believe you use the gt5 transmitter, i got a dig for my truck and i want to be able to use it in 3 position, 4wd fwd and rwDIG. i have a 3ch receiver that binds to the gt5. can i get one of my channel 5 or 6 dials to control the 3rd channel on the receiver, or can i only make those work if i have a 6 channel receiver? i hope you can help
Will the vanquish three speed transmission fit in the new Capra 4ws? I literally just purchased mine a week ago and I am ready to do some upgrade including getting a lower gear ratio
You mean the 3 gear transmission right? It’s not a 3 speed, it has 3 gears inside of it. The answer is that it WILL fit, but you need to change the skid plate. I do that in a follow up video on this truck.
Awesome just started to follow you and I definitely enjoyed the videos but I have to admit I'm dumping just as much money into this as my real crawling Jeep 😂😂😂
