It made short work of your wood course for whatever that’s worth. I just finished building the trans, I liked the complexity of it. It was a fun build.
i see a lot of peeps on here doing dumb things with hg rcs jumping right next to kids with 15 lb bashers etc i applaud you for making the not for kids thumbnail
Axial went to a lot of effort to make this a scale truck, particularly when the straight axle version is released. I would suggest to anyone wanting a comp crawler, get something else. It would be a shame to rid it of scale details to get it lighter. Not sure why noise is big deal for some, but that's their call. Personally, I love this thing & can't wait to get mine.
Excellent review. This is the first one I have seen that talks about balance and shows the two speed. I would very much like to see the top speed in both gears to give a sense of what you are talking about regarding the reduction. Good job once again!
Nice review. I put spacer kept low gear only and installed Spektrum dig servo. I’m running brushless AXE system it has enough speed. The servo I got Reef 422HD didn’t need to trim was perfect size. Tires I had some SSD bead locks with proline bf mud terrain in soft compound. It’s better quality than redcat Gen8 I’ll give it that less bulky. Please compare it to Gen8 Axe.
Great vid as always completed mine 2 days ago but built it adding brass as the Capra axles are basically the same I added the portal OD from shafty went 1.7 in the trans with optional gear set for the straight axle ditched the faux motor cover and went 550 can. running KLR tires helped by time your done offsetting brass for all the crap up top Iam really happy with it... Well worth the time and investment axial designed a great platform it just really needs a lighter body or heavier brass down low...
I'm NEARLY sold!! I've seen the Videos, understand the few shortcomings.... I've been Axial since my first AX-10. I'm not jumping on the TRAXXASS bandwagon! 😜 I've got ONE SHOT. I'm a very poor Disabled Veteran, BUT I've got that Stimulus Check coming... I want to make the RIGHT choice. I can't buy ANYTHING afterwards. A couple of People have said that 11 tooth is the perfect compromise... But of course it's YOUR Rig. I'll be using the HH 550 Crawlmaster, but tires are still a question.... THOSE are supposed to be R35 Compound, but they don't seem to have the greatest grip. I've got at least a week until my check gets here, decision making time! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Awesome video man definitely makes me want one even more now. Thanks for being honest and really showing the lil things on it. Cant wait for all this virus shit to go away so i can pull the trigger on one of this. Keep it up man and stay safe.
..... And in the TRUE spirit of what this Community is SUPPOSED to be - I'm giving one of my Rigs to someone who doesn't have any! Thank you for showing me that not everyone in the Hobby is selfish. 😉
I agree with u on the tires, this SCX10III rubber is one of the 1st kit or rtr tires that I may not replace, the SCX10II UMG10 kit tires are pretty good also but this Jeep it's definitely the foam, it's to firm. I'm going to cut my foams to resemble a gear, hopefully it'll act like a 2 stage foam & it'll definitely be softer. I'm going to start small with 1/4" triangles width wise like a pinion gear & then go deeper, wider cuz I also really want these tires to be good. I wish all kits & rtr's would put the best tires/electronics in & charge a couple bucks more or nothing & charge less cuz I've got tons of pistol radios, 2 ch receivers & crappy tires/rims, it's a shame. Great videos, thanks for keeping us entertained! Better yet each model should have 3 choices, 1 bare bones kit no tires electronics & clear body, 1 rtr cheapest stuff for beginner & 1 pro version with good radio, tires & electronics like that Gen8 axe edition.
I have the same servo on my TRX4 it's the best only downside is 12v only. I appreciate, or i should say, put up with, the unservicable design of my Yeti Score scale build where I just cant remove certain bolts anymore after a few crashes. But it looks so much cooler and drives more realistic compared to Slashes etc. This scale truck.. does nothing my TRX4 didnt do several years ago now.
Awesome footage Joe... was nice to see this truck on your coarse, it's so familiar to a lot of us viewers that it's a bit easier to get a '"feel" of how this truck performs... I love everything about this truck and will definitely be picking one up when they arrive in Oz... Oh and since you suggested that you'd be doing g8 Krawler's with stock foams, could you possibly assemble Nitto's with a dual stage foam, just if you have some spare and give 'em a run.? Cheers mate 👍
13:49 the torque twist is going the wrong way because your drivetrain is basically running in reverse when you're going forward. Don't forget the portal Axle spins the wheel in the opposite direction because of the extra set of gears.
Really enjoyed watching your build and great 👍 tips about this kit. I’m interested to see what the rtr version is going to look like and price on it. My guess $450-480 range.
Servos vary widely in size and shape As we get more scale lije this engine in this although why bother if the hood doesn't open is beyond me i suspect servos will get more uniform in dimensions.
Wow lot of parts in those kits, I am new to RC Crawlers, raced on road and 1/10 of cars in the 80s RC 10 Gold pan LOL, watching videos I got the idea and went bought a Redcat Scout II after a week -SCXIII Jeep and the gladiator rtr man there cool but I just can't get myself to bang them up hard core Rock Crawling, I like the trailing mild rocks, because beautiful trucks ,so I thinking about buying the Axial Capra 1.9- 1/10 that one I will beat up some lol and its sounds like it is more capable than my skill level. You are a excellent driver pick the right lines and throttle management seems to be critical in rock crawling, also a good builder for sure, I fly Rc planes and drones ,but so far here in AZ havening a lot of fun with these trucks only been at it since November 1/ 2022 and said I buy one, huh I have three Crawlers now and maybe 4 soon, I am running out of room already like all RC Hobbies Super Addictive LOL Great videos and wow what a track looks scary too me .
Awesome video, I'm just getting back in to RC and want to purchase this since I got nothing but time on my hands now that i'm stuck at home. What electronics do you recommend, and receiver/transmitter for 2speed and dig?
Hey brother I'm not sure if this matters but three of your shocks had the 3-hole diffuser and one of them had the five hole diffuser I'm not sure if you caught that when you built it but it might change the performance of the one shock I'm not sure though I'm still a noob
Soo... how does it compare to the capra? Stock for stock since you have to add your own electronics is it comparable or is the capra a whole different animal?
Couple questions.... where is this course at? I have always kinda wondered this... why are the man made sections raised up off the ground like that, I get up and down bits, but having long sections raised up seems like an unnecessary recipe for trucks falling 3-4 feet to the ground and breaking stuff... Do you think the 2spd would be more handy if you were using a fairly slow motor, like 45-55t turn, and the high gear could get you wheel speed when needed, but not be overly fast? Hope to see more videos on the new kit, I think it will be my next build.
I saw nothing wrong with the paint job. Also, seems like a rather capable truck, but like you said, could use some softer tires. Would the tires already on it possibly break in after a few uses?
My umg10 2 speed definitely has a higher range between the gears for sure. I kinda wish they kept that gearing as this truck is definitely more of a trail truck in my eyes. How did you feel the wheel speed was with that holmes motor? I like alot of wheel speed personally.
I noticed you put a 13T with the Hobbywing. I was looking at adding a 12T crawlmaster to my Hobbywing but noticed they say not to go lower than 16T on 3s. Is it OK because it's a 5 slot instead of 3 or?
Yeah a horn issue is the problem. I’ve seen one guy who has made them work but now I’ve already ordered the sx107 servos. This isn’t a comp truck so they should be fine.
I really wanted this kit till I found out it sounds like a hand full of nickels being shook up in a tin can. Quietness is the first thing on my list when it comes to buying a new rc
@@ExocagedRC you having built it and many others, could I ask were the gearbox gears (or any other) a stronger pitch than average? Some speedrunners with heavier pitch gears or mod 1 can sound super clunky but because we know what it is we have no issue with it. Looking positively could this be the case? Tell me about the gears please.
My bomber was pretty quite till i added a steel spur and hardened 2 spd tranny gears. Now it souds like an electric chain saw. But i like it. Everything about that sound is keeping my 6 year olds hands off
I saw on IG a guy made them work but he had to elongate the metal horns and use a screw in the end of the shifters to use them. This isn't a comp crawler for me so I'll give the stock spektrum servos a try
@@ExocagedRC I would too but I wanted to run 7.4v. I learned the hard way when I fried one of those Spektrum servos on my Capra. It struggled to properly shift the dig anyways.
Alvin Marin I was going to run Reef 99 too. We could probably 3d print part to fit factory. The dig with Spektrum isn’t as bad I thought better then Capra. However I too wan to run my other electronics at 7.4v. Maybe you can get a power regulator between the micro servo only.
If you can manually engage the 2nd gear without a servo I’d just make a linkage. Dig is probably most important. For the tires to not be usable it kinda makes the kit not as good of value
I wouldn't discard the tyres yet... let's see them with some performance foams and broken in.. I've watched other run videos and they seem to work pretty good. And then depending on where you live, the terrain etc etc.... I think Joe is going to try different foams for us when he gets a chance. Cheers mate 👍
Is this what my back yard will look like -- LMAO -- already plan a course on my creek but after the rains course would be CLOSED -- due to HIGH WATER and Corona :( great video I watch here alot so subbed -- Playing catch up in RC's -- drone guy have Skydio tracking my Xmaxx -- more to come EJ stop by n chk me Out
Your Windigo must feel like a red-headed stepchild with respect to how differently you drove/drive them. This SCX10.3 looks like the total package. If/when the RTR comes available; would defeating the DIG and possibly 2-speed trans by pulling the plugs on the micro-servos be a perfunctory fix if the DIG proves as problematic as it has on my RTR Capra? I don't have the space or convenience of a hobby room and workbench. Doing either a 'build' or a transmission re-build on a RTR is somewhat untenable for me.
on my capra I've been running the reefs servo since the first build and not a single issue, I like the features, what issue have you been having? yes you can lock the 2-speed and dig out.
@@ExocagedRC First I found the placement of the DIG activation/deactivation buttons on the controller consistently being unintentionally pressed by my big o'l thumb. After successfully fabricating a guard over the buttons to keep my thumb from doing this I found that occasionally the signal being broadcasted to the cordless headphones I like to wear while enjoying my RCs was erroneously activating the DIG and the only way to deactivate is by disconnecting the battery from the ESC, counting to ten, then reconnecting the battery. As you can guess this is more than frustrating; especially for a feature I have absolutely no need or use for. NOTE! Doing a 'kit' build or a total dismantling of my RCs is impractical and untenable for me due to lack of space, workbench, etc. Recommending purchasing a Reef's servo or tearing the transmission apart so as to install a part NOT included or listed with my Ready-To-Run Capra DOES NOT HELP ME AT ALL!
For $360 I never understood why they use such crappy tires. Like why not make a soft compound tire that's atleast halfway decent. I spend 360 then need another $100 in tires not including electronics. Great looking truck by the way 👍 maybe where my stimulus check will be going..lol
Kevin Talbot has Invited you (Exocaged RC) to Compete in a Monster Truck FreeStyle with a Solid Axle Vehicle All the info is on his Video I hope you participate that would be sooo cool a lot of other RC RU-vidrs have been invited to compete
Exo, that clicking has been solved, it’s the 2 gears inside the transmission, here’s a vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QI2cV1DY0TI.html
the drivetrain sounds rough as crap,it has a clicking sound crawling and at high speeds sounds rough.im a scx10-2 lover but that thing sounds like crap im sorry.
How is it possible that it has a torque twist, so much torque twist with portals is almost impossible. It also sounds terrible. Man, Horizon just killed Axial, that looks as same crappy as Capra, with same crappy rear portals and stupid engine mount. Shame.
@@mojaverc1585 a joke is that car for 500$. TRX4 was overpriced but this? It's the same model as from Traxxas, but looks like one ordered from China for 200$. SCX10.2 was a revolution, that 's just a bancrupt fighting for a client.
eM4rio so this is an overpriced trx4 clone that looks like it was ordered from china for 200 dollars. Yeah I definitely see where you are coming from. Makes a lot of sense. From what I can see the trx4 is more expensive.
@@mojaverc1585 370$ for a KIT. Vs 460$ for an RTR defender vs 340$ RTR Sport. As all of the Axial fanboys was shouting that trx4 is overpriced, what will you say now seeing a price for 10.3? Keep in mind plastics quality, as I do have SCX10.2, I doubt that it will survive that kind of a beating that TRX4 did. ( you have to see what Kevin Talbot did with TRX4, comparing what happend to SCX when RC girl was just bulding the kit)
eM4rio I’m just gonna leave this here. I might buy this kit, but I will probably go for a capra. I’m not an axial fanboy i just like their products and I think they make the best crawlers. If anything, I’m an Arrma fanboy. Good day
