Although the Dagger Axiom was released with the Contour Ergo Outfitting system, Dagger chose to install the playboat seat instead of the more robust creeker seat. After a year of hard use and abuse my Axiom was starting to oil can so I decided to upgrade it to the full creeker system.

Outfitting a whitewater kayak has gone from standard fair to a dark art as factory outfitting has gone from non-existent to excellent. These videos are how to guides for improving, updating, and upgrading your outfitting. From Dagger Contour seat swaps, to new thigh hooks and foot blocks I'll walk you through most typical projects to make your boat more comfortable. These videos are especially useful for updating old school whitewater kayaks which are famously uncomfortable.

Hi Alex I love your content. I just watched your Axiom video in the hope that I can better understand how the step-out pillar attaches to a Dagger Code. I noticed you didn't cover the front pillar drilling in your Axiom. (Presumably just a case of lining up, using a flash light, marking, drilling etc.) My problem is that I bought a brand new Dagger Code with the creeker system. After just one paddle on flat water the Velcro on the foam footblocks came unstuck. I now have two foam footblocks rolling around in my boat. I tried contacting Dagger, but they didn't reply. I want to remove the footplates so I can explore alternatives to the Velcro. The problem is the step-out pillar is in the way. Am I right in thinking that the bolts that hold the grab handle also hold the pillar in place? Do you have any tips for removing the pillar/handles? And do you have any suggestions for how to secure the foam footblocks? Thanks, Alex. You are the outfiitting guru !

Yes, the 2 bolts in front of the cockpit rim are holding the pillar. There will be 2 sets of nuts, one below the pillar, one above. Just grab contact cement and reattach the velcro to the foot blocks. That may or may not require them to be fully removed.

Thanks, Alex. I just ordered a roll of wide, "extra sticky" Velcro. Are the footblocks normally fully covered on about 2/3 of their back surface. (That's what they look like on some of the internet images I've seen.) My blocks had two shortish strips of the hooky Velcro stuck on the back of them. I wonder if I got a duff batch of footblocks....?

It's also going to come down to how you use it. My boats spend a lot of time low water creeking

@@AlexBarham mine spends its time on high volume in spring and low volume rest of the year only times i dont use it is on more long trips where i need storage space since only boats i have myself that i use is 2 different sized dagger katanas and the axiom and im out almost everyday if theres enough water in the river that goes right by my mothers house

Hey dude, I pulled all the outfitting out of a nomad to do this same swap. I really appreciate you posting this video. My nearly mint axiom has small oil canning as well. How has it held up for you? My biggest concern is removing the welds on the seat track, I was thinking of cutting them out gently with a serrated blade... what do you think? Thanks Alex! Love your content

Hey Mark! The swap worked great and made the boat much stiffer. Find a thick putty knife. Heat it up and slowly wiggle it through the welds till they break loose. Thanks man!

@@AlexBarham Cool, thanks! It looks like you drilled holes on the deck of the bow for the step though pillar? Did you use your headlamp to line those holes up as well?
@AlexBarham
@AlexBarham 3 года назад
@@markjohnson4553 that is correct. Measure repeatedly to ensure that the pillar is in the right place first. Also you can make the pillar a little longer, or much shorter by drilling out the rivets in the center and cutting the top down. Personally I think the step out is the only part of the outfitting swap I would not do again. Lost some strength doing that.

@@AlexBarham In what way did it lose strength? Would you recommend that I not put the step out pillar in my axiom? Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions. I just want to be sure I only have to do it right once.
