One small mistake that I made...It would not have mattered if I had chosen to lose the Anti-Aircraft Artillery on the shore bombardment because it would have still been able to fire at the planes in the first round.
I've never played Axis and Allies before , but the past month or so , I've been watching all the RU-vid i can lol my Europe and Pacific Global should be here any day now , can't wait to try all the Strategies you've taught me !!
Thank you John. I'm glad they are helping some people. I know how much that I appreciated YG's videos on how to play and I wanted to do the same for others.
20:37 I see there is a discrepancy on the AAA rules for taking casualties and how many shots they get against air units between the Europe and Pacific rulebooks, and have now realized that I had 1st edition rulebooks. Is there a handy list of changes bewteen the two editions somewhere? Edit: The Avalon Hill website has PDFs of 2nd edition rulebooks and FAQs. Now I wish I had learned the game on 2nd edition.
Check your page number there is nothing on page 26 about AA. I believe that you're confusing the inherent AA Guns on a facility (they are imagined, not literally placed on the board) with Anti Aircraft Artillery. As it describes on page 27 the facility guns are not destroyed. However, the Anti Aircraft Artillery that are used against an assault on a territory (not on the facility) can most certainly be destroyed like any other combat unit in general combat. This is the example I gave in the video that you pointed to.
Thank you Godfrey. I got these factories at; www.shapeways.com/product/P7JFN6N8N/majorfactory-qty-12?optionId=10600458 and; www.shapeways.com/product/L8EGX3PBW/minorfactory-x12?optionId=41124890 I got one set of the major complexes and 2 sets of the minor complexes. There are lots of great sculpts at Shapeways. Just type Axis and Allies into the search thingy there and you'll find all sorts of wicked stuff.
You can get many of them at your local hobby store where models are sold. The selection is limited but you can a better selection here; www.hobbylinc.com/1:72-scale-world-war-ii-wwii-plastic-model-military-figures I would recommend that you take the time to read this thread before you purchase any because there is a lot of good information there; www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=39272.0 Here is a video that I made about them but I have since purchased more and replaced some that I wasn't happy with; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-omPptc9C2_4.html
Yes he bombards before the ground combat begins. No he doesn't get to pick the casualties, the defender chooses as always. The unit that is hit still gets to fire in the first round.
I have another question too. So the defender can't retreat right? And also, if the attacker decides to retreat, does the defender get to fire at the attacker before he retreats?
Well, defender can choose to submerge any or all of their subs during "Step 2. Submarine Surprise Strike or Submerge"; as long as no attacking destroyer is present. Also, there is a rare condition with scrambled air units. The defender can kind of slip scrambled air units if the stars align. General Hand Grenade covered a story explaining this unusual case. Otherwise, the defender cannot retreat with any official rule set. Keep in mind that most of these rules apply to all versions of the game. However, Global 1940 1st or 2nd edition are the only ones where you'll encounter air bases, naval bases, mechanized infantry, scrambling, etc... and any other 1940 specific units/buildings. Unless of course, you use house rules. ;)
