As a veteran Axis and Allies player for many years among multiple editions, even dogs of war on the pc back in the day. The basic Allies strat was to focus everything on Germany and keep Russia in the fight as long as possible. Send planes to help defend crucial land, lots of Russian Infan and keep Germany from concentrating everything on Eastern Europe. If Russia falls early you lose, if they grind Germany down and let the allies build up you win. Japan has to be decisive in Either going East or West. To me this was always the key player in our games. They have the most options and can achieve victory for the axis or lose it for them based on early choices. Russia: Hope you like Defending and giving up land. Brits: A plucky little nation that can't decide the game but can help hinder the Axis if they don't watch out. USA: Just hurry up and get over here. Germany : Hope you like 3 vs 1 for most of the game. If you lose that bomber early on your toast. Japan: Inny mini mai nee moe, catch the allies by the toe. If they hollar your a pro.

Russia in this game is woefully undermanned and against the ropes when you look at the number of units the Germany can bring to bear there is no way to hold Leningrad . For them to try to defend 3 complexes. It's almost impossible. I have this game and I've been playing it with others. All of us Has been playing axis and allies for thirty-five Years. With a master running the axis, a win for the allies was not happening, due to the Russians virtually not having any units on the board compared to the Germans . And the Russians having to stretch themselves over 3 complexes. 2 things that we have done to stimulate making in a fair contest. We Instituted scorched Earth, And Lend lease. Certain rules in the book like being able to build a Carrier with fighters already on it. Combined with being able to build fighters right onto existing carriers as long as they are at your complex. Make it much easier it gets some fighter planes over there to the Soviet Union. If you want to scorch a complex you have to have the amount of money in your Box that equals the monetary value of the complex. Then at the end of your turn you pay that money. Then the complex is removed from the board. When I run the Soviet Union I take all troops and pieces into Western Russia from Leningrad leaving one piece behind. Then also take the soldiers from Moscow. And a few pieces from the caucus complex. I wanna hit Western Russia. But I don't wanna take it. I hit it with enough power to possibly get 3 or 4 hits but the name of the game here for me is to retreat everything into the caucus complex Hit-and-run. Then the caucus complex is fully fortified . Now the Soviet Union right off the bat. Has 2 complexes that are well stocked to try to survive the onslaught. With Lend lease. Any Allied unit naturally they will be airplanes at 1st that lands in a Russian an complex Will become Russian at the end of the Russians next turn. And before they change they are able to fire defensively. Allied fighters can land in the caucus Quite easily from an allied controlled Africa. As also carrier based planes to make it from the sea zone 6 to moscow I like to buy a Carrier and 2 fighters with the United States right away. I will leave the American fleet that I have in the Pacific to hit and run the japs. Also your naval forces that are in India and Australia. And combine a major hit. On the fully loaded Carrier and battleship owned by Japan down in the sea zone that surrounds the east indies. The English fighter in Affrica. I like to fly to the caucus complex immediately. Providing Germany doesn't find a way to destroy it Again good friends of mine and myself who have been playing this game for 35 years had to tweak these rules in order to get the allies to compete. I'm sure all of you master axis and allies players anybody running the Germans can run right over the Russians lickety split in this game Try these rule options we have instituted. And feel free to share any ideas Thanks! This is a good game. We also play axis and allies Pacific. Axis & Allies Europe Axis & Allies Anniversary edition. The classic edition of course Kirkmudstone

I think in the 15 games I played with friends it was ALWAYS the problem to get the US into position. And we basicly always failed but the one time where Japan made some big mistakes....

I found a easy way in 1941 to keep the Soviet Union alive if you and the people your playing with are newer so you try to take Norway/Finland west Russian and Ukraine I realized the German player would scramble to take at least one out also I recommend to at least capture two of the areas I said and fortify the ones you took

Well I don't know if this ever happens with any of you, but in my experience, when the UK builds up in India to strike in Japan (primarily fleet), it never ends too well for Britain and Japan seems to be slowed down very minimally if at all. Most of my Allied won games came from Britain building up their fleet in the European conflict and the allies focusing in on Germany first.
@JonathanMeyer84
@JonathanMeyer84 7 лет назад
If I think I can slow Japan down expending minimal resources, I sometimes will build a little in India. In my experience (which matches yours), when England devotes a ton of resources to India, the Allies normally lose. When I'm playing as Germany and I see England make that move, I'm pretty pleased.

Germany has there game set out for them kill USSR, one big mistake I made when I was playing axis was not bringing one of my German bombers to help take back east Germany. make sure you don't leave those bombers in central Germany they make the chances of winning from about a 67 % chance to a 96 % chance. and this video really helped me I finally beat my brother thanks.

It has been a while since a played, but I remember one key on the European Eastern Front is make heavy use of "strafing" attacks (attacking with enough firepower to whittle down the defense force by getting hits on the first round or two, but then retreating and not take the territory and there by exposing your expensive tanks & artillery to counter attack). Or arranging to take a territory with only a few infantry to occupy it (if you know you will face a blistering counter attack next turn). This helps create "dead zones," where territories constantly change hands, but not in decisive way. Also, as the Soviet Union, don't try to hold on to Leningrad too hard, even though it is a victory city, instead focus on making it a 'dead zone' for Germany (as per above) and preserving your high offense units (tanks, artillery & planes) by not exposing them to withering counter attacks more than you can help it. The UK can be tricky, as the latest game (2012) really forces you to spend at least some resource in India to slow down Japan and keep the victory city of Calcutta out of Japanese hands. There is a reason they start the game with a factory in India (unlike the original game in the 80s), because Japan (especially in the hands of a competent player) can't be allowed to run hog wild, even with a 'kill Germany first' strategy. The US may have the most trouble in properly spending its money to bring maximum effectiveness at the earliest possible time. Going last my help you determine what strategy Germany & Japan are going to use, but that is no guarantee. Usually air and navel assets are a big focus, as those units can typically make a more immediate impact and help overcome the 'tyranny of distance' the US faces at the start of the game, but don't forget that boots on the ground are what is going to really help in a few turns. At the very least be aggressive with your navy in the Pacific to disrupt and annoy Japan and help the UK keep India out of their hands. In Europe, the key is to quickly secure the Atlantic and keep Germany hemmed in. That may require going to Africa, or moving assets to the UK itself if it looks like Sea Lion is imminent.
@CrazyRightWingNut

Without going into a full strategy, these are some of the things I prioritize. Hitting Japan's fleet as hard as possible warly on with the UK fleet. Building a two transport naval task force in the Pacific with the US and a three transport task force in the Atlantic with the US. US first Atlantic landing in Moracco once Atlantic is secure. UK landing in Norway once North Sea is secure. US island hops New Guinea, Borneo, Philippines, Java. India gets 1 infantry, artillery, and tank each turn. US builds to four aircraft in each ocean. USSR shuffles West Russia, Caucys, Ukraine, and Belarussia with Germany protecting its tanks and planes at all cost and wait for the west to show up

nice video - i have played the board version since it came out - with the early version, it seemed easier for the allies to win - this version seems easier for the asix to win. I am starting on the online version to play with friends and loving the strategies that you are showing here. I am seeing where I way underutilized transports for sure - which country in your opinion is the easiest to play ?

Nice video, I enjoy the challenge of being unpredictable, the USA helps England build a North Atlantic convoy , I like a Brazilian factory with a small South Atlantic convoy into Africa's Ivory coast. often just the USA doing this secures Africa, a British African factory pretty much assures units heading through the Middle East and beyond. so 5 USA transports + warships throughout the Atlantic and the rest of their income spent as harassment against Japan, two smaller Allied Pacific fleets can often work together and get paid...

I never played this game, but if I was the allies I would have the us focus Japan and tie them up as much as possible while the UK and Soviet Union focus germany. Eventually the UK and Soviet Union will get the advantage on Germany which will cause Japan to send help or risk losing a teammate which in turn will ensure the us victory in the Pacific. When the us wins, they can land troops in Germany to open a new front and put more pressure on them, like in real life

what about if the UK attacks in round 1 the japanese carrier and battleship in SZ 37 with the fighter from Egypt and their combined pacific fleet and loaded transports with 2 inf each? You got good chances to win the seabattle and after that you can go 4 inf vs 2 inf to take the East Indies. Ofc you will lose your carrier and your planes and maybe also one cruiser but do you think this could be worth it?

In this version of the game, can the Allies take neutral Spain? There's so many more spaces on the board, it seems like it forces a North Africa first strategy, followed by Spain. At least the map still allows shuffling U.S. troops from Alaska to Kamchatka (or whatever it's called).

@@JonathanMeyer84 Thanks for the reply. A&A used to be my favorite game 17 years ago. But now I'm not interested in playing a 5-hour game that has to be adjudicated, like the last time I played a version with capital-objectives in tournament. And one too hard to explain strategy to a newbie (or computer AI).

See, I don't really agree with "Focus mostly on Germany." The way I see it, the best thing that Japan can do to effect the outcome of the game is to force Russia to fight on 2 fronts and increase Germany's likelihood of taking Moscow. And the best way to stop Japan from doing that is for America to build a serious fleet and go balls-out for Borneo. Japan can't build tanks to blitz around Siberia if they have to pump IPC into their surface fleet to protect their money islands.
@MrNormanR
@MrNormanR 3 года назад
But Japan has the bigger fleet in the beginning. Wouldnt they just go for Alaska and decide the game pretty soon?

I might take the American fleet up to Alaska and start running a troop parade starts in the Western United States and finishes up in western or Eastern Canada.Alaska. ect Be able to hit both war theaters Get my American navy up there in Alaska to give him some attention. Try and scoot 2 guys across their to the Soviet far east Then build a fully loaded carrier USA east coast. Split existing air planes Try to buy 2 fighters a tank and an artillery piece for the English Build one fighter in India and the other 1 in the UK. Maybe land that fighter in Africa I usually like to land it in the caucus complex. but land over there in India or even to the spot the u s a. Fighter is !Then stack some more pieces up against FIC with the English. Also on the 1st turn I'd like to take my English Carrier with the fighter plane and all of the boats from under Australia and in India and smash that fully loaded Carrier and battleship. In the east Indies sea zone . That fighter will be on one and can land to the forward American area in Asia close to fic Lot depends on what's goin on

I just got 1940 Europe 2nd edition. Pretty late into the game and hoping someone can answer me. If I don't have a certain unit because they are already on the board (Cruiser for UK for example), does that mean I cannot add another cruiser ? I say this with wondering if it happens that you have no more tanks for example, does that mean you have to buy something else ? Something else I was wondering. Why didn't they design the map with the Naval, Air bases on the map. It would of been less cardboard on the map to place. I'm guessing it must be because of other versions which don't use them. Would like to know if that's the case.
@lowestcommonDenomanator

I think so, if you have another compatible a&a game of course you could add another from the other game I suppose. As for factories printed on the board itself they do that in the new “axis and allies zombies” game so idk why they haven’t done it before then.

My strategy relies heavily on the UK on the first turn. UK needs to build an IC in Egypt and wipe out Libya. Having that IC in Egypt allows quick troop movement to bolster Russia to hold off Germany until the US can move into Europe.
@JonathanMeyer84
@JonathanMeyer84 7 лет назад
Thanks for the comment! In most games, Germany takes (or makes a strong attempt at taking) Egypt. Since Germany's Turn 1 occurs before England's Turn 1, that would completely negate this strategy. What do you typically do as the UK in those situations?
@TheT4xid3rmist
@TheT4xid3rmist 7 лет назад
It's very difficult for Germany to take Egypt on the first turn in my experience. You have to try to take out an Inf, Tank, Fighter, Artillery with just an Inf, Tank, Fighter, Bomber. Rarely have I seen Germany be able to take Egypt on the first turn.Would be different if you could pick up units on a transport and offload them same turn like in the original version of A&A. What is your strategy for taking Egypt as Germany?
@JonathanMeyer84
@JonathanMeyer84 7 лет назад
Not being able to pick up troops and drop them off in Egypt on Turn 1 would definitely be a problem, but the rules allow for such a move so that isn't normally an issue.
@TheT4xid3rmist
@TheT4xid3rmist 7 лет назад
Oh geez. I swear I read the rulebook 100 times and thought it said you couldn't use the transports that way. Reading it again it appears I've been playing this version wrong the entire time.

Happens to the best of us, my friend. As long as you're playing as the Allies and Germany does not yet realize it is allowed to do an amphibious assault on Egypt Turn 1, you're still golden ;-)

@JonathanMeyer84
@JonathanMeyer84 7 лет назад
Since Global 40 requires the purchase of both 1940 Europe and 1940 Pacific, that's likely to be noticeably more expensive than buying 1914. If they're looking to save some money, I recommend going 1942 Second Edition. If they're willing to wait, though, I highly recommend getting the reprint of Anniversary Edition which is being re-released this Fall. I don't know what the price is going to be on that (it could be the same, less, or more than 1914).
