The Axis Artist Exchange was funded by the British Council’s International Collaboration Grants, which are designed to support UK and overseas organisations to collaborate on international arts projects.
In March and April 2023, KCAT and Trasna Productions (Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland), and Pyramid (Leeds, United Kingdom) visited each other in an artist exchange. We met new friends, learned about each other, and created artwork together. This film celebrates our exchange.
Artists and staff from the organisations visited each other's towns and studios. We visited cultural venues in the different towns.
We shared the artwork we created and talked to each other about the projects we are currently working on, and our creative practices. We made artwork together inspired by meeting each other, and by the places we had visited and seen on our travels.
We created a new large-scale piece of artwork together, working with artist Saturio Alonso at the Gasworks gallery in Callan. With film-maker Patrick Bramley, we documented our visits.
The artists, staff and organisations were inspired by what they saw and what they learned from each other, to think differently and better about the way that we do things.
The artists involved in the exchange were: Alfie Fox, Brianna Hurley, Diana Chambers, Fintin Kelly, Liam Hirst, Ria Lake, and Stephen Harvey.
