We have used this saw for over four years now and it hasn't missed a beat. I had a few DMs asking for a review on the saw so decided we would get one done for you guys. If I have missed anything please drop it in the comments below and we can cover it on a further video.
This is the 10" / 254mm saw. There are a number of these out on the market at he moment but after using this one for such a long time we genuinely love it. A quality bit of kit!

Good video and review. I feel the same about the micro adjuster, always injuring myself on those teeth! To get around the blade tilt I use the fence on opposite side of the blade 👍 subscribed

Hey, thanks for the comment and sub, love your videos by the way! Apologies as I did reply to you the other day but RU-vid didn't add it on for some reason! Those teeth on that adjuster are a killer, every time I forget they are there I loose some skin off of my knuckles lol. Thanks for the tip, I've started doing this now we have the table extensions, up until a couple of months ago we were working without them and it was a pain. You know how it is though, you often don't realise how much something would help until you get it. The upgrade has helped make the saw 1000 times better!

I've been looking at one of these to replace my bosch gtc10x so thanks for your views. Jury's out as it's a toss up between it and the festool 10 inch saw which is pricier though.
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Hi Paul, that Festool is not a cheap saw. What's the reason for looking at it? Is it the Sawstop capability? If that's the case I cant argue against it. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Sawstop type technology as I think its a dangerous crutch, maybe fooling the user into not using safe working practices BUT that's just my opinion. I can understand the reason to look at them. If you are solely talking about the quality of the saw I would be looking at the Axminster. Especially when you think you could add on the table extensions, get yourself a really good quality blade etc with the extra money.

Nicely done Josh 😁. I've been trying to get hold of one of these for ages but they always just slip through my fingers and Axminster seem to be having some stock issues 🙁. So I'll stick with my old TS for now. Just found your channel (I would love a shop that size... jelous 😔). I'll sub and check out your other videos. Thanks mate 😁👍.

Thank you Frank. Its always a bit nerve wracking putting up new content, especially when this is a whole new thing! Haha I know what you mean 're the workshop. Its a bit of a beast. Think of it like a nice 5.7 v8 muscle car. It makes you smile when you get in it, until you have to pay to fuel it up 😂 Yeah, I noticed they have had some stock issues. This seems to be across the board as I contacted a few companies in Dec regarding a new extractor and everyone was out of stock 🤷‍♂️ It is an amazing saw for the price though and it helped take us from our garage to our new workshop!

Stunningly similar in most parts to my SIP 01446 (the 12") and I'm taking wild guess to say the 01332 (the 10"). I use the tape on my fence, though I'd love one thats 20mm thick and metric only, though the magnifier is nothing like the ones you see in things like the sawstop or Laguna which actually looks like it works!
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Its not to bad you know but it could be better. The saw has worked amazingly well for the money we initially invested in it. How do you get on with the SIP? The Lagunas look nice, another company that sells great cabinet saws is Baileigh Industrial. They don't have any UK stock at the moment due to everything that is going on but there saws are beautifully made and look the business.
@MrDBT85
@MrDBT85 3 года назад
@@TheNaturalWorkshop Yes the Laguna F3 is on the one day list. The SIP is fine, it was 3rd hand at least when I got it, but its a 4HP 12" 200kg saw for £745 so hard to pass up. I don't do nearly the amount of work you do of course so its a little like using a mk10 hammer for a walnut! I did have to 3d print a new fan for the motor though as the original was more of a goopy mess than a fan.

Some advice using a bar or screwdriver to lock the arbour when replacing the blade. Just be very careful as you can easily deform the flange as there's not much material between the hole and the flange face. I bought a used SIP saw which is basically the same saw, I had this issue. I had to reface the flange to get the blade to run true. I'd personally lock the blade with a block of wood instead of jamming a bar into the hole.

Hi Gary, thanks! Ill have a look! Yeah the dust extraction always seems to be an issue on these saws, blocking some of the holes up with flexi magnetic strips seems to help but it does seem to be a bit of a loosing battle.

Hey, no, mine doesn't. It sometimes wants to drop a few mm when you raise it up but there isn't any lateral movement. I would check everything inside, make sure its all clean and all your bolts/screws are tight. If its still playing up then give Axminster a shout, they have a great tech department who are always happy to help! Let me know how you get on!

Hi and I recently found your channel and enjoy the video's. Since Axminster have pretty much moved all their stock over to their in house Brand which is Taiwanese they have major issues with spares.. Personally I will never buy Axminster branded machinery again because making Joinery is my living and I can't afford to have a machine break down and wait weeks/months for spares.. I would also add their "Industrial" grade machinery is way overpriced for the quality which is basic to say the least. Anyone who is professional full timer I would avoid Axminster.Great for hand tools etc but not machinery unless you are a keen DIYer. One last thing , if you cut a lot of birch ply,Veneered boards do you use a "Triple chip" saw blade?. I would recommend trying one because chip out is pretty much non existant when cutting man made boards... All the best Adie.
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Hey Adrian. Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoy the videos! I can only speak from personal experience in that whenever we have needed spares or tech support they have been there within 24 hours. That's not to say that what you said isn't true, its just not the experience that we have had and we have been buying their tools for the last 5 or 6 years now. I have had issues with other tool manufacturers where the response for a dodgy bearing was "Buy a new motor for £250" instead of just sending me the bearing, under warranty or they just wont warranty their tools for commercial/trade use. I agree with the "industrial" grade comment. They removed that a couple years ago didn't they, now its just "craft" and "trade"? Its a difficult one as their gear is priced higher than other companies BUT again, like I said, the aftersales has made this not an issue when things have gone wrong and to be fair, they haven't really gone wrong for us in particular. I do struggle when looking at machinery to find another company which hits that gap of not being a DIY or weekend wood worker but isn't going to cost me the price of a second hand SUV. May I ask what your recommendation would be for wood working company that fills the gap of Axminster, that being the smaller trade shop. We have some Felder gear which is amazing but at £5500 for the base model of table saw (K3 Winner) with the added extras, its out of the reach of most owners. Itech isn't bad, but when I've spoken to Scott Sargent the sales guys haven't been able to really help me in terms of spares or didn't know...it just didn't fill me full of confidence. Genuinely interested on you view though as I might be missing out on something.
@adriansams6066

@@TheNaturalWorkshop Hi and cheers for the reply. I did write a reply but It seems to have gone missing from the replies.. Basically my experience with Axminster machinery warranties was poor. Puchased an industrial 16" rip saw, packed up within 30 seconds of starting it and they weren't interested in coming to site ( I believe it was due to not having enough engineers/staff) so they asked me a few questions over the phone, they diagnosed the problem, would send the part 24hr delivery and it didn't turn up. It turned out the engineer forgot to post the item so it actually took over a week. Not an issue if I was a hobbyist but I'm not so it was a problem. There are also issues with spares being available which is not good if you need a part and can't wait for the container ship to cross from Taiwan. I fully understand budgets,priorities etc but I try and buy decent ,well made machines with decent aftersales.. If I can't afford to buy a Felder,SCM,Paoloni etc I will try and hold off till I can. Scott & Seargent are a bit expensive on their used machines and as you say they don't install confidence in knowledge of spares .Probably because they just want to sell you a machine. They aren't top of my list either. No brand is 100% fab but if budgets are tight I believe you can't go far wrong with Hammer (Felder Budget brand) or Minimax (SCM Budget brand). I-tech are ok, Taiwanese basic machines but should be ok for a few years of good use but again spares could be an issue. I have a Paoloni 4 sided Moulder and have managed to get spared sent from Italy (when UK dealer has run out) with 5 days. I know Felder are often happy to do deals and decent warranties. Sedgwick are UK brand and their machines are ok, not up to felder or SCM but they tend to be rugged and a bit cheaper. Both my Grandads were Carpenters & Joiners and always installed in me try and buy decent quality and if you can't then save up until you can and it's served me pretty well.

If it's 2200W it should easily work on a 13A plug. It could be the start up? Still shouldn't be enough to blow a 13A fuse. If its not got soft start you can get generic units (XS-16/D3) to give you soft start. I've seen loads of tools put on a 16A plug that really doesn't need it.
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
I think its more of a liability issue. A sparky that I spoke to recently said that anything with a constant load over 2k should have its own dedicated circuit. Thats guidance, not a BS Standard or anything like that. Ive seen lots of guys chop the blue plug off and wire it straight into a plug. Sadly I dont think my insurance would be too happy if ended up causing a fire so its more of a "Need too" than "Think it needs to be done" if that makes sense 👍🏼
@drsquirrel00
@drsquirrel00 3 года назад
@@TheNaturalWorkshop I've had a spark tell me that leaving the lights on all the time uses less power - so I'm wary of one source. The motor should have a p1 and p2 rating, this should cover what you actually need. Kettles don't have blue plugs and ovens are appearing on 13A sockets now. Having a 13A plug puts another safety inline though. That and your smaller 1.5mm2 flex can do more than 13A as well. I'm going to guess its actually so the manufacturer has less steps to go through for approval - and its less of a problem for customers of these devices to use a 16A plug.

@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 2 года назад
Thank you! Yeah so this seems to be something that happens to us when its very hot or very cold. In the summer our shop gets to 40c and in the winter it can drop to freezing. Ive noticed that the screws holding the fence to the runner can come loose OR the threaded rod which runs along the length of it can stretch so it needs to be tightened. Ive replaced the screws which hold the fence to the runner and that helped, think they were a couple of pounds off of Ebay but we have had it a while now.

@@TheNaturalWorkshop Thanks for the detailed response, mate. It's a frustrating problem. Mine already came with hex screws. I am thinking of fixing two homemade "flanges' on both sides of the slider that will butt up against it and maybe help keep it square.

That might work, its a bit hard to picture. What I have noticed is that the blade tilts to the right. Is that a problem when making 45 degree bevel cut? Than your fence needs to be on the left side of the blade which makes it a bit awkward when operating if you’re a right handed person
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 2 года назад
Hi Daniel, to be honest no it isn't a problem. I have mine set up so that I can do small cuts on the Left hand side of the machine and larger cuts its on the right hand side. I don't really know why they do it like that over there, the only reason I can think of is because it might be easier with a sliding table but again, I'm not really sure! Its a great saw by the way, we have absolutely hammered ours and although its not perfect, its a really great option for the price and the after sales service is excellent.

Hi, what about the fence? You said something like it could be better? do you have any issue with that? Iam thinking of buying this saw quite because of fence - I didnt find and other saw for this money what would have fence lock on front and back. So what about precision? Did you try to cut 50-100cm and measure with digital caliper? Thank you
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Hi, thanks for the comment. The fence works great and has done extremely well over the last few years. It can occasionally move if you hit it with a heavy board but that's to be expected. Personally I like the more rigid US type fence which you find on the Bayleigh Industrial machines but for the money, I don't think you will find a better saw. We have used this well over and above how it should be used and it is still working extremely well, a testament to the build quality. As for precision, we don't use the included ruler/guage on the fence, I never use them on any tools. I always measure before cutting as things can move. I have a steel rule which I use to measure everything and set the fence before we cut but when we do cut, its always spot on. Ill include an affiliate link below to the type of ruler we use to give you an idea. amzn.to/3cfIeno I make a commission if you use the above affiliate link.
@HarmonieZvuku-harfy-kalimby
@HarmonieZvuku-harfy-kalimby 3 года назад
@@TheNaturalWorkshop thank you very much. But about precision I thought it in different way. Like if width of board is same over all length. No matter what ruler says, for example make a cut of width about 100mm from 1m long board. Take digital caliper and in start there is 100,25mm in middle there is 100,15 and in the end there is 100,35mm. So precision is about 0.2mm in 1m length. I know that wood is not steel engeneering buy I need new saw for precision cuts bevel and mitter as well (I know that for mitter I need some jig but still I need precision fence and other parts). And also when precision is good (good fence and no wobble in saw plate) you get clean cut and no need for jointer/sander
@TheNaturalWorkshop
@TheNaturalWorkshop 3 года назад
Apologies as Ive just seen this. Fully understand where you are coming from. Tell you what, Ill doa quick cut tomorrow and get you a reading. In terms of the finish and no need for a sander/jointer, you can do more with a high quality blade which is well worth the additional money. As for Mitres etc, I would recommend building a sled. We don't use mitre fences etc as there just seems to be too much slop in them. Stand by and I will get you that measurements! 👍🏼

More to do with my shovel like meat hooks rather than anything else. How are you doing it? Moving the motor or the top? Any way you can clamp to a surface? The other thing to try is small increases in pressure and work your way around the bolts.

@@TheNaturalWorkshop Hi, I've got the blade lined up now. My problem was that I needed 3 hands. The bolts I need to loosen are Nylocs so I need both hands for the spanner and Allen key while pulling the motor section to align. When I moved the motor it would not stay in the correct position before tightening the bolts. It was just one of those 'simple' jobs that are never that simple! After a lot of buggering about I finally got it. I was determined because there is no point having a nice table saw if it ain't set up right.
