In this video I will be unboxing my new Axminster table saw. It is an American style table saw, with a t track fence and dado set… which is very hard to get in the UK. The table and extension table is fully cast iron. The side mechanisms is all cast iron and the saw blade is driven by three v belts for maximum torque and power. In this video I will also be set up the table saw, giving you a walk through of it and finally giving you my thought and first impressions. I hope you enjoy the video!

Table saw looks great. Looking forward to seeing some results when you can. Just one point … Please use a piece of wood between cast iron parts and any required hammering. You can easily damage it if you don’t. Enjoy your new kit.

It would be super easy to get geeky about this saw - it’s one hell of a bit of kit! Thankfully I’m not jealous at all ;) I really like the fact that this is the first saw (to my knowledge) that is compatible with a dado blade in the UK, which is the icing on the cake, IMO. So a new table saw, a Powermatic Drum Sander. Damn! Your workshop is becoming my idea of heaven. Superb stuff. Enjoy 👍

Hey Chris, ahah I'm glad your not jealous! I don't want anyone to be. hopefully it will allow me to make better things, which i can share with everyone and people can learn from it. Yeah the dado feature is nice.... I actually haven't got the blades for it, at some point in the future i will get them. yeah I'm very lucky and grateful for the workshop! the next tool I've saving up for it a spindle moulder!

Hi. I've recently purchased the AT254 and I can not get the fence to retain its 90 degrees angle to the machine bed when the clamp handle is locked / clamped. It is 3mm out from top to bottom. I exchanged this fence with another from the showroom and regardless of how the adjusters are set, the fence still via left by 3mm when the feces clamp is engaged. Have you heard of this as an issue before....Thanks, Chris

Axminster do not do a nearside extension wing for this saw, as it is a re branded Harvey saw, who do sell them but will not give guarantees the bolt holes will match up. I bought this saw early last year, made my own nearside wing, scrapped the legs and built a cabinet under the router extension, also threw out the outfeed table as my workbench doubles up as one. My saw is on a Jet mobile base and the dado I use is a awesome feature, good luck. Oh you will probably realise soon you will need something like a wixey digital fence meter as the one for the fence is not close enough to accurately use.

Rivingknife is actually quickrelease. There is springloaded pin you have to pull to release the rivingknife
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 4 года назад
Hi @Vaiko Kull, I found the spring not the be strong enough to keep the riving knife in a tight position, and it sometimes moves. so i have to tighten the bolts when i change it.

@@SeanEvelegh I have the same saw, but not with routertable, just extension table. My saw does´nt seem to have that problem. Rivingknife has a little play back and forth but not side to side.

Surely you need a step-up transformer Harry, which goes from 240v to 110v? But Axminster do recommend a 16amp (240v) outlet and have the machine hardwired to the power outlet. I am however, no expert (probably easy to work out from the above information), so it’ll be worth getting an electrician in to make sure.

@louiesworkshop2023 4 года назад
Hi Sean, can I ask you a question mate, I just took ownership of the Laguna fusion 3, stunning American Cabinet saw, now the question is this, both your table saw and mines are very similar and both have the longer arbor to take the dado set but I am a little concerned, both saws have braked motors and according to advice from the saw companies a braked motor cannot be used with a dado set as this can possibly result in the dado set undoing the locking nut because the stack or chippers can continue to spin when the brake is engaged, not a good thing at all, did you no this Sean? Regards Louie
@jonh1808
@jonh1808 4 года назад
Louie's Workshop the saw is designed for a dado set, as long as you don’t exceed capacity (usually an 8” dado set max), you’ll be fine. The locking nuts are reverse thread. They can only tighten as the blade spins, not come undone.
@stun9771
@stun9771 4 года назад
Hi, Sean...I have a question: How much did it cost to get the 240v 16 Amp supply put into your shop? Also, I think you’ll find that the arbor to which the blade attaches is long enough for a dado set on this machine, and Axminster also sell the dado blades so I understand...looks a very sturdy machine, hope it works well for you... and yes I would like you to do a review on the machine once you’ve had the opportunity to put it to the test...I’ve had a few minor niggles with some of Axminster machines, so would interested in getting your opinion on this machine...
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 4 года назад
HI Stuart, Yeah i know about the dado set, it's a great feature... I don't actually have the blade for the dado set yet, but in the future i will get it. I can't fully remember how much it cost. around the £500 mark i think. it will change for different people. depending on where their main power box is, because you need to wire it from the main source.
@louiesworkshop2023
@louiesworkshop2023 4 года назад
Hi Sean, can I ask you two questions, firstly what do you think of the fence, when locked down is there any play at the end of the fence? Secondly can you buy an extension wing for the saw to increase the table top, i am giving serious thought to making this saw my next purchase, I appreciate your advice pal, kind regards Louie Ulster Workshops
@SeanEvelegh
@SeanEvelegh 4 года назад
Hi Louie, I haven't had an issue with the fence. it's seems very solid to me. When i asked axminster they said they could order the left side extension from america, but i would phone and check with them before purchasing them. I think it is a great saw. however I'm disappointed that the extra's like the sliding table and router fence or overhead guard are not included in the original price, it's very expensive.
@louiesworkshop2023
@louiesworkshop2023 4 года назад
@@SeanEvelegh The price is scary, the saw looks great though and I am delighted that a wing for the left side of the table top is a possibility but you are right the sliding carriage is insane money for what you get, keep my posted with your wing decision I am very interested, thanks again my friend for your as always great advice, God bless, regards Louie Ulster Workshops
