The Axminster Trade Ultimate Edge is a new way of sharpening, linishing and polishing. Now, none of us take up sharpening as a hobby, but it’s a necessity to get the best out of our tools, woodwork without a keen edge simply ends up in tears. With this variable speed version, we’ve teared up the rule book and changed the direction of sharpening. When honing or stropping a fine edge convention has always been away from the strop I mean which way does the Barber strop his razor…? Exactly, away from. Other belt sharpening machines will have the belt only travelling into the blade. The Ultimate Edge gives you the choice of running the belt in reverse, which we believe gives you greater control, generating less heat and, ultimately, giving you a better (barber quality) edge.

G’day From Australia. I’m a member of two Men’s Sheds. And in one we have the Tormek system and in the other we have a Robert Sorby Pro Edge system Which btw, I’m not a huge fan of, but that is mostly due to the fact that their cross bar is fixed, and this creates a problem with some short tools. And from what I can see, you guys have avoided that issue completely, so I am impressed. I can’t see any resellers of your products here in Australia, and whilst I don’t think the sheds that I’m a member of are willing to upgrade, they are however very interested in knowing if your chisel plane blade jig as compatible with the Tormek system. I ask this because you have made a point of saying how Tormek jigs are (usually) compatible with your system. And we can see the huge benefits from not having to remove the tool from the jig to then put it on the diamond stone. So we could be interested in maybe buying one of these plane/chisel jig kits as a standalone purchase. It would of course depend on cost too, but even so, knowing this answer may well help others too.

Ideal for first sharpening but a huge amount of work to just touch up the edge. You would have to do it freehand. Using a slope always gives the same angle without any set up. Ideal for wood turners and maybe carvers.

Hello from Poland! Will the Tormek square edge jig (SE-76) also work here?

Hi there, the SE77 Tormek jig will fit onto the bar. The Axminster Professional Honing Guide (105281) has been designed to use with the Ultimate Edge, this then fits onto the Bevel Honing Guide (109388), allowing the set up to be taken from the Ultimate Edge grinder and then hand sharpened on a finer stone (water, oil) to a finished edge, without adjusting the blade in the main honing guide. Hope this helps.

Measuring instruments used as screwdrivers? Always a winner. But not for long - all those little fiddly bits will be lost in days. Don't buy any of this garbage.
