Well, its taken a while, but this video has finally appeared on my YT home page! I really must watch and like more LNWR and pre-grouping videos I guess. I can't recall having read about this layout or the involvement of the club before but what an absolute gem it is. Having grown up and started in modelling railways in the 1960's, I have a really soft spot for those layouts that had to be built almost entirely from scratch. Inevitably, that results in a somewhat less "polished" result than many modern layouts, but they ooze character and atmosphere. (I'm thinking Peter Denny's and P D Hancock's work for examples). And of course the sheer skill of the builder has to be admired. Very well done to those who seized the opportunity to rescue and restore this layout. its a pity that it isn't suitable for regular exhibiting but at least we have a print and digital record.

Railway modelling at its best - I first read about 'Aylesbury' in the original 1960s articles in the MRN and it's marvellous to finally see running in this video.

I love EM & P4 gauge. Once you see these layouts, OO looks like a toy.

I crossed that railway twice a day to and from Queens Park Primary and Junior school. We would stand on the bridge and get covered in steam and smoke as the engines were shuntered across Park Street. The station was called Aylesbury High Street, being at the bottom of the High Street. It was also the first station in Aylesbury, as the Great Central did not arrive until the 1890s.
