I understand where Kelly is coming from. How many artists really make it big, even those who are the sole artists signed to their label? Mayorkun is a part example; his career took a downturn after he left Davido's label. Mayorkun was at his peak while with Davido, but his success waned significantly after leaving. Similarly, Lil Kesh was at his prime in 2014/15 alongside Olamide, with both artists releasing hits simultaneously. However, Lil Kesh's career declined after leaving YBNL. I agree with Kelly on this one. Both Lil Kesh and Mayorkun did well, but their success was also intertwined with the prosperity of Davido and Olamide, respectively at that time. Omo lil kesh and Olamide where untouchable 2015.
Kelly still don’t understand, you can’t be signed under abel while your label boss is a superstar the focus will be on your label boss and nobody cares about you. That’s why Olamide steps back and Don Jazzy also said it then that he has stopped singing so people should stop featuring him. You can feel his voice in most of his artists project, same with Olamide and Asake Olamide writes most of Asake’s songs. Better to sign under a label that has no superstar on it or at least artist that have stepped back from the spotlight so they can push you. Mavins may be the only label that can work simultaneously with several artists and blow them in Nigeria but its not easy too b/c as Ayra is doing well now, even Rema has to take a back seat but tbf, Rema had all the attention during calm down. e no easy.
You have to be a good artist in Mavin for you to blow. Mavin has many artists but Ayra Starr is a special breed amongst them because of the way she writes her songs. If any artist wants to copy, he/she should copy well than the original else it will a thrash.
