Stopping is not an easy decision to make, you put yourself and others as risk by stopping, he made the right decision here but it could have been a disaster if other cars had hit either him or his car in the middle of the track.

its not about right or wrong but what Senna was doing here is high risk high gamble-action and it pays off fortunately.

He was the first car there. If someone else had heard the car fully revved like Senna did, they probably would have stopped too. It was a nice thing Senna did, but lets not act like Senna was the first and only person to ever care about a fellow driver.

I noticed the same, only few drivers from the 50's 60's and 70's did stop in similar situations. Senna was the last of an entire generation of drivers that drove with the heart and passion.

If there's no one else on the podium, how can you be sure that you're the best, not the worse? Competition is about time, piloting, strategy. And those requires a huge amount of trust and respect to happend without major incidents. Pilots are colleagues and friends first.

His pit crew accidentally sent him out because they didn't realize the track was blocked. He had no idea what was going on.

Man, Comas's engine must have been making a horrific amount of din for Senna to hear it over his own. He got out the car and ran like a fucking Cheetah to help a fellow driver. Completely selfless and a mark of the man. Legend, full stop.

It wasn't till I saw a version of this clip with raw audio that I understood just how heroic Senna was. With the original audio you can hear Comas' car pinned at max revs as several other cars can be heard approaching at a blistering speed. Not only did he put the competition aside, he risked his life running across an active race track to sprint toward what was essentially a bomb. What a guy

@@leonardokdc1 no, in the fight for the title, Senna was ready to risk other people's lives by crashing into rivals and lap cars, and Belgium 1992 was the 12th stage of the championship out of 16, Senna had no chance of the title even if he had won the last 5 races including Belgium, which is why Senna went to help without a doubt. when Senna is not fighting for the title, he is the most pleasant rider of the peleton, but if he is fighting, he is the dirtiest and most annoying, even pique was not as infuriating as Senna.

We here in Brazil know very well how Senna was in racing, he wanted to be first anyway, even if it was a qualification. Knowing what Senna was like, he could have passed straight by, but he realized the danger for Comas and went to help.

Settle down , he also rammed others at near 200kmh , it depended on what his frame of mind was at the time , if they were racing each other he'd gladly put them both at risk to get the position, such was his personality he was a great person.. Unless you were between him and victory, that is why he's admired, when racing he was cut throat but outside of that he was always helping people

I met Ayrton after the 93 Adelaide GP. I shook his hand and got some great photos of him as I was wearing a Cannon vest with my old man's cameras all over me . We were staying in an private stand called "The Pits" at the end of the straight right on the hair pin. It was a moment I will never forget.

Even more heartbreaking is that Comas tried to help Senna in 1994... he left pitlane during red flags and went to help Senna, but he was too late. Senna was already gone.

Professor Sid Watkins explained what to do in a crash situation to Ayrton ONCE. Ayrton remembered everything, switching of the engine, holding his head. The greatest of all time. He was ruthless, but he was compassionate. Legend.

Today I saw Senna's deadly crash for the first time in my life, even though I'm already 26. I have never been really interested in F1, despite when it was all over the media. Now I see this video, man this guy was and still is a legend, so sad he's gone.

I just recently came to know about Ayrton Senna's incredible feats in Formula 1 as I'm a novice. For me, he is not just a great driver but an even better human being and this video is a testimony to that fact. I'm now a big fan of Ayrton Senna. We lost a real gem.

Truly GOAT. Like my father said and my old man was watching F1 races since 70': Senna limit in everything was above of the others. I spent hell of the time with my dad watching races. My dad was watching F1 races 40 years and even my mom turned into kind of expert. My dad was always watching every F1 in old fashinoned Ferrari polo he bought on his honeymoon trip to Italy in 1980. When he get retierd I bought him a trip to F1 race in Spain (where I've been living for 14 years ). It was one of the happiest days in his live. He had chance to make a picture with Fernando Alonso who was Ferrari driver back then. My dad past away from heart atack month ago and now I have his old fashion Ferari polo in my flat. He was a great dad and a great F1 fan with 40 years of watching F1.

@maximus He did risk his life, by stopping his McLaren on the track and by running through the smoke to Comas's car, with the danger of being hurt by incoming cars. That's pretty obvious on this footage.

You own up to mistakes, you try to compete with yourself, you feel every movement and every bump on the track. You need real talent for that. There's no need to call someone a dickhead just because he got pissed off at another driver (even if it was his own fault). He didn't act like a dickhead throughout his Formula 1 career. Schumi had his moments as well... but no one calls him a dickhead and no one should call him that tbh. He was a human being after all... he wasn't a jerk or anything.

No it wasen't. Not for a long time. They did overhaul the safety measures a great deal after that very deadly weekend. Barrichello got a lucky escape that weekend and Ratzenberger unfortunatly did not. After that they did closed off the cockpits more. The "wave" constructions on the sides of the safety cell got introduced after that to limit their heads for swinging around in total freedom. The actual tying down the helmet to the shoulders with the HANS system was still years away. Hans was invented midd 80's but only came to F1 in 2003.

@@Wheresmy240 - Since ground effects, & then with the active suspensions they had in the early 90's, you absolutely had to be in top shape. After Mansell went to Indycars for a couple years, when he got back to F1 he had to work up to another level of fitness again (& Indycars were pretty taxing, too).
