The more I see Lan Zhan I realise what a beautiful character he is. He spoke too little, he was stoic, he kept all his feelings to himself. He did not allow anyone in his inner zone. But he is a pool of emotions from the inside. At first instance the character Wei Wuxian attracts immensely. He is like the many coloured rainbow, bright, vivacious, strong, weak, soft, kind, loving, blah, blah, blah. In comparison Lan Zhan seems bland. But the more you see him you realise that he is the one who was the perfect match for Wei Wuxian, calm, steady, composed and stubborn in love. I can't say who did the better job, the original writer or the series director and writers in showing what love should be through the eyes of Lan Zhan. Probably his greatest gift to Wei Wuxian was Yuan. If Wei Wuxian taught Lan Zhan to love and recognise his loving self than Lan Zhan did a better job to remain steady in love. It is easy to love, but the difficult part is to stay in love forever. And Lan Zhan did that exceptionally well ❤️❤️❤️
I agree, beautifuly said! And he is very happy when he learns that Wei Ying loves him back. That confession at the temple was both hilarious and adorable.
@@usonohoshi6165 true, too bad that because of chinese censorship, they couldn't even hold hands. All they could do in terms of hands was to make Wei Ying grab Lan Zhan when he was afraid or Lan Zhan grab Wei Ying when helping him. Also, in the monster cave, Lan Zhan touches the iron brand wound on Wei Ying's chest, he puts some herbs on it. In the animated series, Wei Ying has his chest partially uncovered. But in the drama, he was fully covered (again censorship). But the team was really creative by using various symbols to indicate the romance.
@@ImperiumNox It sucks. But honestly it's better than what Hollywood is doing. Either they make it TOO in your face that they disregard good writing. Which leads to people thinking "if there's gay stuff it's bad/boring" Or they give us side couples that can EASILY be edited/cut out if they release it in places like, ironically, china. This is not only subtle enough for us to notice and those who might not like it to over look/not notice. But it's happening to the MAIN couple so you can't just remove it. Not to mention the Donghua is more obvious, which make me happy. So my hope is china keeps on fighting the good fight. The best way they can. It's a slow process. But they are progressing base on the amount of chinese BL manhua and novels I've been seeing.
@@usonohoshi6165 The chibi shorts series makes even more abvious that the story is BL. Very cleverly, there they included what wasn't in the main animation. There's a part where Lan Zhan says Wei Ying is a handsome man, then one where he compliments him in Gusu dialect, even one where WY prepares gifts for LZ's birthday and the 1st thing is an erotic book 😂 And the cutest one, when A'Yuan calls them mom (WY) and dad (LZ).
Baby meets dad, dad meets baby, dad reunites with papa🤣🤣🤣 look at Lan Zhan’s face when he says A-yuan is his kid! The reason he looks so shocked is because the real translation says “I gave birth to him”🤣 Wei Ying: This kid is mine (meaning: I gave birth to him) Lan Zhan, in his head: WITHOUT ME?!

I mean his mom died when he was 6 and he and XiChen were only allowed to see her once a month. No wonder he became so protective of Wei Ying, he was brought up really strictly by Uncle Lan QiRen and before meeting Wei Ying all he knew was walls of rules, had no friends, was at home most of the time, and so on. After Wei Ying appeared in his life, he wasn't the same again. He might appear as a really tough and stuck up person, but his emotions and feelings were very strong. Nobody else was willing to do what he did to save and protect Wei Ying. He even broke clan rules and clashed with his family. Those 33 lash scars and the self branding on the chest are enough proof of how much he loves Wei Ying and how much he suffered because he couldn't save him and the pain of mourning.

Weiying behaved like an experienced Mom, knowing fully well how to control and console a baby. Lanzhan was like a disciplinarian Dad, who knows how to control wife and son by uttering one small,crisp sentence. A yuan seemed to love and be afraid of his Dad at the same time. Mom Weiying saw that too and complained.They really looked like an adorable family,though there was no blood ties between them. The ultimate bonding is that which ties hearts,and it has got nothing to do with blood.

Lan Zhan is fricking head-over-heels for Wei Ying! The look on his face when he first saw him among the crowd and looking at him mother A-Yuan , squeezing his cheeks and playing with him - Lan Zhan seems to falling in love with him even more 😆. Oml his face when Wei Ying said A-Yuan was his [or he birthed him] was hilarious 😂. The effort this man puts to keep seeing A-Yuan and Wei Ying smiling by buying those toys for the little one and having a meal with them god they looked like an actual family! My poor heart
And i think the author of the book said that Lan Zhan fell for Wei Ying at first sight. I read the book and somewhere near the end, it is revealed that Lan Zhan loved Wei Ying since they were studying together as teens. Lan XiChen being their biggest supporter was so awesome. He knew Lan Zhan like nobody else and understood right away that Lan Zhan had fallen for Wei Ying.

The name in english is Gtandmaster of Demonic cultivation, you can look it up. This drama is an adaptation, but there's differences and i recommend you read the book if you want to understand the plot better.
