The Dark ages (in the UK) were @566 to 1066. At the time that the temple was being built we had the Plantagenates as the kings, Edward the 3rd, had the 100 years war with France and just about the time the temple was being finished we were into the Wars of the Roses (Lancashire vs Yorkshire). Interesting times!!!
We spent maybe a couple hrs there and I wandered around taking photos- could easily spent much more time there ! Purely breathtaking!! Glad to see it again 😉✌️
NICE VIEW AND VERY HISTORICAL PLACE , I DO BELIEVE THAILAND THEY HAVE TRUE HISTORY, BECAUSE NEVER CONOLYZED, SO THEY KEEP IT AS IT . THE GAS STATION THE SAME LIKE TEXAS THE WAY THEY SAID DON'T MISS WITH TEXAS. ONE LOVE
Hey James! I've been watching your videos for 4 months now! Your channel is awesome and the growth is a testament to that! Would you ever consider allowing any of us to come to Thailand and hang with you guys?
Love ❤️ this Video:) You are in the old Capital of Thailand. once upon a time it was a major city and trading hub. we miss Ayutaya We have been there many times we in Thailand 🇹🇭. Thank your for sharing again as always Enjoy your time there 🙏👍🇹🇭
This is one of your best videos yet. I love the temples. Are there people that actually dont? Just the right amount of commentary and great footage. Nice Job! Also I had to RESUBSCRIBE for the second time in the last month today. RU-vid on the ball....
Greetings Chocolate man Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed Ayutthaya it is beautiful,I beleive it was the former capitol until it was raided by the Burmese or Khumers (don't quote me) that's why so many of the Buddahs were destroyed. Really enjoyed this video and hope you visit other historical sites, take care.
Nice video as always James. I have been to Ayutthaya several times. Its a beautiful place. Here in Norway we call the flowers in the water for "Vannlilje". Btw you say the name of the old city right from what I can tell. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Norway :)
Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of Siam (now Thailand). It was destroyed by the Burmese (now Myanmar) Army in 1767, which marked the end of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which extended over nearly all of present day Thailand, plus the southeastern portion of Myanmar. The capital was moved down river to Thon Buri, opposite modern day Bangkok after the destruction of Ayutthaya. You may have noticed that nearly all of the statues in Ayutthaya are headless. The Burmese Army decapitated the statues to prevent the statues from coming to life and attacking them. The Buddha head embedded in the tree was one of the decapitated heads. It fell amongst the roots of a nearby tree where ii has remained to this day. (The tree is over 300 yers old.). The Buddha head has special meaning for the Thai people. FYI - Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Definitely suggest a return trip when you can take the time to explore and learn about the area’s history. Been to Thailand many times, so really enjoy your videos and commentary! Keep up the great work! Look forward to seeing your discoveries!
Great video, very interesting place. I really hope you climbed the steps to the top of the last wat? View is good but standing up there is amazing 🙏😎👍🏻 Take care 👍🏻👍🏻
Hello James! There are many temples in Thailand. However, you may have noticed that many do look the same simply because basically the cultural practices may be the same for some regions. So this means it'll look "same-same" and not interesting where ever you go. I did a tour of Ayuthaya before by boat and they had guides that know about the history of the different temples and courtyards. I think you might want to try this 'coz it would make the area seem a lot more interesting with all the details. And if you don't like history, the boat ride itself is fun too. Good luck!
History never gets old! Never get enough of this beautiful History. I really fall in love with your channel 💕 you made my day again. Thank you for sharing this epic video. Enjoy 😊
Ayutthaya used to be the capital and the palace of Siam back over 6 hundred years ago. ( The city was lost to the Burma twice in the history. The first was about 458 years ago and Siam was freed after that by King Narasuan. King Narasuan conqued the war and seized the land in Burma, Cambodia and Laos. Siam used to be a lot bigger country after the King Narasuan era. The 2nd lost to Burma was about 254 years ago. ) About 254 years ago, Burmese troop burned down the city and took away all gold and golden Budha along with people as slaves back to Burma. Pra-Ya-Tak then gathered some mens and managed to escaped out of the city toward the East till they reached Trat province where he created his own Thai Troop and came back to take Siam back from Burmese troop and free Siamese again. Then Pra-Ya-Tak became the King and settled the new Siam Captital where Bangkok is today. At one point, Siam was changed the name to Thailand. After the 2nd world war, Thailand had to give up the land conquered from Burma, Laos and Cambodia to the British troop and French troop, which later they are given back to Burma, Laos and Cambodia making the Thailand Kingdom is in the shape of an axe on the world map today.
Very nice old temples James. If you ever get to go on a roadtrip after you know what is happening now, you can go visit this beautiful temple. Phanom Rung historical park, บ้านดอนหนองแหน. Just google it for a pin 😉 thanks for the lovely video, stay safe bro
James, take a trip to the ancient city, you need to hire a golf cart, cycle if your really fit, and I mean fit, the heat will get you but its vast, the same man as the sanctuary of truth has rescued all the buildings for this park from a whole palace, to temples and villages, you could spend 2 days in side, we did half day, drove like Hamilton to get around, need to go back , we did Erawan museum in the morning so we were short on time, inside an elephant head a staircase to viewing points and ancient art. Go see
You will not be disappointed if you choose to go, and we get to re live via your vlogs while not being able to return to our condo in Thailand at this time, great content on Ayutthaya loved it so few after we lost friend Kev, and other than Chuck and Page, and Joe have family content, hope when we get back we get to buy you a Chang and shake your hand for the endless entertainment .
been AYUTTHAYA numerous times James just like yourself every time ive been has always been 38+ degrees , think thats why the ancient Thais abandon the place 555 and moved somewhere cooler
Ayutthaya looks so peaceful... But dayum 37 degrees is hot 🔥 Do you have a "base" near Pattaya and travel from there or do you move around every month ?
You should watch the Thai drama..Love Destiny...great story and history of that era and the battle with Kings....police girl from the present gets switched for a girl in the past before Ayutthaya even.....before covid they usually had a bunch of shops across the street where they would dress you up in clothes of the era and you can walk around the temples and take pics....kind of like a costume rental....the Thai drama Love Destiny was one that set in play a whole economy after it was aired....
I'm no expert I thought they moved the capital because it was obliterated by the Burmese and they decided to move down the river to Bangkok rather than restore and go through a repeat attack.
should see ayutthaya first before going to see angkor watt. else this place will feel like let down after angkor watt. my tour guide told me that when the burmese invaded the country a few centuries back, they got to this place and sacked it. they have all but destroyed all the statues to look for gold. apparently they think there were gold stored from inside of the statues. that's why if you get there, you will see most of the statues are missing their heads....
You might have took a peak view to your vloger Lucas as he was there a few weeks ago and as his girl friend is from there he gave the correct pronunciation.
