The Azadi Tower ( Borj-e Āzādi; "Freedom Tower”, formerly known as Shahyad Tower) is the most iconic monument in Tehran, Iran. Located on Azadi Square, near the Mehrabad airport, it marks the west entrance to the city. The tower is about 45 meters (148 ft) tall and is completely clad in cut marble. It was commissioned by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, to mark the 2,500-year celebration of the Persian Empire and completed in 1971.Designed by Hossein Amanat, architecture of the Azadi Tower is a combination of Achaemenid, Sasanian and Islamic architecture; So that the oval arch of the tower is a symbol of the Taq-Kasra, and the turquoise tiling from the Safavid period and the grooves on the top of the tower are adapted from Yazd windmills.The Azadi Tower is a part of Azadi Cultural Complex.For more information visit:
