Dang man, I’ve been watching this from episode 5 I think. I really admire your perseverance. There’s no way I would have had the patience to both assemble.. and fix everything like you have. Looking forward to seeing the result.
Brilliant!! An Incredible build and I cant wait to see the finished model. You must have a huge backlog of builds to you are just itching to make a start on.🤔👍
Every Friday... we get a new progress video and (as it's getting so close to completion and the Enterprise E is easily one of my favorite starships) i've been looking forward to this video all day... amazing work, sir, and thank you!
She's really looking good Lou. I like the dimmer switch for the lighting. I hate to see you having trouble with decals. I always worry about decals when it comes time to put them on. The different paint shades looks great!!
I remember Thomas Sasser saying one particular thing about Richard Long’s work. “The guy has an issue with symmetry”. It certainly shows when mirrored decals fit one side differently than the other. Awesome job making lemon-aide out of lemons Lou!
You have far more patience than I do- one little aggravation after another (and a few large ones) in a kit like that would drive me to make a wrecked ship out of it or kitbash it with something else (even if I had to scratchbuild the something else) rather than try to keep correcting all those oddments. I mean, yeah, it will look good from arm's length but if you have to keep backing up... Anyway, good in you for persevering. I couldn't have done it.
This is a beautiful Enterprise, thank you so much for sharing this .. I have the smaller Enterprise-E i too had a few problems with some of the decals .. my problem now is using lighting for my next Star Trek models i have .. I seem that i cant get the lighting to work properly without blowing them .. this is FABULOUS though thank you ..
I think I would have given up after week three. Good on you for sticking with it. With your design background, perhaps you’d consider creating your own decals for a future project?
Is it possible that the number 13 didn't have any thing to do with the decals going down so horribly. LOL In all seriousness, if it was me it would have been a pile in the trash can around week 5 or 6. But you hung in there and showed us what is possible with determination and pulling it off. Your patience is very good considering must of us would have given up on this model a long time ago congratulations!!!
Greetings On a totally unrelated topic, do you (or anyone else ) have drawings/plans, etc for Riddick's ship that he stole from Tombs (re: Chronicles of Riddick) the shape and style has always fascinated me. Love what you're doing here in episode 13, can't wait to see the end! thanks, Dane
Yet another obvious solution to a half full tube of adhesive. Spring clamps! I am using tube after tube of Gorilla Glue construction adhesive lately. I hate wasting it. Could the ventral saucer part have gotten some cross beams to form it out and kill the concave problem or is the ship supposed to have the concave underside? Way, way too late to open the saucer back up. I wondered about braces last week and didn’t comment.
"Throw the baby out with the proverbial decal water--" Momma mia, Lou, that's funny. I believe Simon used JBot for his decals. (Oops, spotted the sheet and you mentioned it-- I wrote this during the middle out of outrage!) Hard to believe the decals are that far off. Oh well-- it was a troubled kit release. Interesting now that I've listened to you for all these years, I can tell when you're on the ragged edge... But you bounce back and that revives me! The hand touch-ups are daunting. The hull plating and so-called details are a bit much. AND, I don't think there's enough room around the phaser strips to fit those half-ish-circle shapes. There's some clear interference with raised detail right next to the phaser. But I would try, at least on the facing outward surfaces. Maybe just use half or two-thirds-- whatever lays flat. That wedge you had to build-- man, did you get lucky. I would've put epoxy on both faces and then cried like a child, when it was all wonky. (Then get all manly with hammer and chisels to get the hull apart. ) But-- in spite of all your close-ups on flaws-- looks good and it will look good up on a display shelf!
Lou man this kit has been one thing after another. Not to mention how long it took the guy to get you half of the replacement parts he should have given you. Oh I guess I did mention it. Anyway watching you work with the large high profile decals makes me think it would be better for you to have made vinyl templates for them instead of wrestling with them and then painting as well. Of course you couldn't know that ahead of time so my point is maybe you could still make them and include them in your pack for this kit. You have put 13 weeks into this so far. That is an insane expense for me to imagine. Not sure many who have watched along will purchase it, but perhaps a more complete and accurate vinyl template kit from you would solve the final appearance problems and therefore make it worth it for some people to do the work on this thing.
Lou, your doing a bang up job here! Showing your patience and artistry. Question at video index 33:45 ... what type of JB Weld did you use on that outer seem on the neck line?
@richard martin lord knows we don't need another Xwing or Falcon. I'd like to see a Probe Droid or an sandcrawler Or a Medical Frigate or anything else that hasn't been done to death.
Instead of putting aluminum tape on the inside. Have you ever considered a clear coat and laying Gold leaf.? It's not expensive. It reflects like nobody's business hahaha try you might like it
