Azumah, was such an exciting fighter. That uppercut was something special. I remember watching this on tv in 1985. Almost 40 years have flashed by. I’m now 57 😳
One of the best uppercuts I have ever seen. Waited to Cowdell to throw the left and countered with devastating effect. Nelson was an all time great and understandable why McGuigan avoided.
Watching featherweights from this period, I always think of Sal Sanchez, tragically killed in 1982, who destroyed Nelson and would, I believe, have become renowned as the greatest boxer of all time, not just the greatest featherweight.
Why not? Cowdell went 15 rounds with Salvador Sanchez and held him to a split decision and Nelson was stopped by Sanchez. Cowdell had what it took to compete with Nelson he just got caught with a good shot here. Thats boxing, it happens
The shot hit him on the tip of the nose. I had a basketball bounce straight up and hit me under the nose. I passed out from the pressure put on my brain. Take your hand and tap yourself under the nose and see what I mean.
Cowdell wasn't a bum, he was caught with a perfect punch, it can happen to anyone. Also, saying Sanchez struggled with him is a bit of a stretch, Cowdell fought a great fight and definitely took some rounds but Sanchez clearly won. The judge who scored it for Cowdell was either corrupt or incompetent.
Cowdell isn't a fucking bum you twat...also , salvador beat him handedly to be honest..I watched the fight, and no way it was a split decision...also, azumah Nelson is just a damn beast..and Sanchez defeated this beast early in his career..
@@UNSTABLE111 cowdell was a great technician and very highly respected in the british boxing scene. nelson's power & speed were just too much for him, like they were for lots of other boxers.
