@@MrDuck-po3wy I wouldn't be fair. While I enjoy the manga, being a sexual predator towards high schoolers (one of whom is a young child) would be harmful irl, even if it is just words. I know it's just a work of fiction, but people like this guy creep me out (like that one time where he requests a drink of pool water that the students bathed in (I wish I could bleach my brain of that)).
I really forgot how creepy Kimura was. The weird thing is that as series progresses he becomes more creepy and lessy funny. Who ever this character was modelled after, RIP to that school.
As much as I enjoy Azumanga Daioh, I freaking hate this guy. So many people, teachers included, prey upon the vulnerable. Makes me wish he got mutilated...
Yeah, he's an intentionally creepy self-insert (according to popular rumor), but the fact that his perverted behavior and deadpan delivery is so bizarrely disturbing and overly exaggerated makes him probably one of the funniest anime characters of all time.
Why would he make a self-insert that's completely devoid of charm, anti-social and creepy? The author doesn't do anything other than make him an absolute weirdo. There's nothing to him that makes me think its a self-insert other than "The author made hentai before this, therefore, he must be a pervert like this teacher".
@@milesedgeworth132 The author still gave Kimura a very desirable wife that everyone admitted to being "too good" for him. I always found that decision odd, but if Kimura was a self-insert, that could possibly explain it. I'm still doubtful on Kimura being a self-insert tho.
@@IcanSeeU0_0 That was my interpretation as well. Kimura is probably meant to satirize _"that"_ segment of the audience. Anyone who makes suggestive comments about the Azumanga girls immediately gets called "Kimura." That kind of does it for me.
I can't shake the feeling that he intentionally plays the pervert to actually prevent trouble. The last scene kinda shows what I mean: The girls find out that he regularly donates to charity, picks up litter, & separates trash for recycling. Chiyo concludes that he's really a nice guy & Yomi concludes that he's the type to get misunderstood. I'm guessing that he heard that & then says he wishes he could go peeping while he's still close enough for them to hear. It's like he's intentionally creeping the females out to keep them from liking him.
How do explain through what he makes Kaorin go, huh‽ After seeing his wife again, she's determined to find the good in him. But then she sees he planted a small Kimura & Kaorin garden, and tells the whole class on their last day that they'll be together forever! How do you explain _that_ ‽
@@yosefdemby8792 Kaorin was determined to find the good in him after seeing his wife? If you assume his wife is in on his act, she may have told Kimura she ran into Kaorin & everything that was said between them. That garden & classroom declaration was the last send off to make sure graduated students don't try to hang around.
@@yosefdemby8792 Keep in mind that it's all comedy. The hell part is because Kaorin, like many of us were during that period of puberty, was pretty emotional & impressionable & quick to over react & obsess about people & things: Like the way she got worked up over Sakaki or anyone else who showed interest in Sakaki. One can assume (but you don't have to) that Kimura & the other teachers understood this about their students & their occasional nuttiness (Kimura & Yukari especially) was to keep the kids at a safe emotional distance where the kids wouldn't become too attached but not feel the teachers were too cold either. There are probably better ways to do it, but this *is* supposed to be comedy.😅
Azumanga daioh as a comedy is perfect. Not just the characters, they are mostly hillarious in their own way. But also the dialogue, cut and the camera angle changes. I watch this back and still laugh.
If you think Kimura-sensei is bizarre then you need to meet Matsudo-sensei in Asobi Asobase, who being in love with a teacher decided to make a life-size doll of her favorite student, the detail is that he used the student herself to create the mold by dipping her in silicone lol
In the manga he started out looking normal but as time went on the artist began drawing him like that. Likewise Chiyo-chan's pigtails looked realistic but then became that. Becuase it was easier and funnier that way
This guy never gets into any trouble even if he's a total creep, on the other side, Soujirou, the father from Mitsudomoe always gets misunderstood even if he's the most sweet father 🤣🤣
