I'm a developer but a bit slow on the dev-ops side of things, explain why one would want to script resources into an ARM template? Wouldn't these resources already exist? For example, an App would already be there, SQL database, etc. At what point in the development cycle is this used? As a developer, I would write, debug, unit test code and then deploy it to somewhere that "already exists" so how does this ARM template help? And how is it better than just manually creating these resources and working with them, creation would only be done once? Or am I way off base here. Like you'd have a production web app, supporting storage account and say a SQL database. Why would any of the structural information of said objects be relevant past the initial creation, and why would you want to reference it repeatedly - when you deploy you're not destroying a web app, and re-creating the entire resource??? I get you can group multiple resources into a group (say a web app, sql server, storage account) and redeploy the exact same thing to different "environments" - but the environments should already be there? Or at most how often would you execute an ARM deployment template? once per environment? So you have Dev/Staging/Prod for example, just 3 times then what? I just don't get it, please explain it to me.
