Such a good explanation...I am a bit new to azure networking and got confused with this subnet masking number. I tried multiple videos to understand this, but you have explained it very well and made it simple to understand.

I understood the concept of CIDR notation very well. I have a question that is if my IP is something like : 172.167.21.0/26 for this how many fixed and how many variable fields? is it still 3 fixed and 1 varying?
I got the answer myself, if the number after / is 24 we have 256 IP addresses available with us. If the number after / is incremented by 1 the no.of Ip address available to us has come down to 128 (256/2). If the number after / is 26 then we will have only 64. The conclusion is when the number after / is increasing the the total available IP addresses come down
