Azure vm backup and restore step by step
Take Virtual Machine Backup and Restore to Same VM and NEW VM and Download Disk and attach it
Azure Backup provides independent and isolated backups to guard against unintended destruction of the data on your VMs. Backups are stored in a Recovery Services vault with built-in management of recovery points. Configuration and scaling are simple, backups are optimized, and you can easily restore as needed.
As part of the backup process, a snapshot is taken, and the data is transferred to the Recovery Services vault with no impact on production workloads. The snapshot provides different levels of consistency, as described here.
Azure Backup also has specialized offerings for database workloads like SQL Server and SAP HANA that are workload-aware, offer 15 minute RPO (recovery point objective), and allow backup and restore of individual databases.

I have created an azure VM snapshot for OS disk, before I install the OS updates for instant restore if in case any issues with updates, Now the VM has no issues with the OS updates, So now I want to delete the snapshot that I took before patch, So deleting this snapshot will effect source disk? and what are the things i have to take care before delete the snapshot?

Hi, if I wanted to spin the backup just to test its validity\works without affecting the current VM, what's the best way to do this?
@PaddyMaddy26
@PaddyMaddy26 Год назад
To test the validity of a backup, you can spin up a new VM from the backup file. This will not affect the current VM.
@alexleighton

@@PaddyMaddy26 does that have to be in a different vent or resource group though

Can we copy the snapshot manually to storage account? basically i want to restore vm to totally different region
@PaddyMaddy26
@PaddyMaddy26 Год назад
Yes you can
@PaddyMaddy26
@PaddyMaddy26 Год назад
Yes, you can copy the snapshot manually to the storage account. You will need to use the Azure CLI or PowerShell to copy the snapshot. Once the snapshot is copied, you can use the Azure Portal to restore the VM in a different region. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions.

@@PaddyMaddy26 i tried using command Get-AzRecoveryServicesBackupRecoveryPoint but no luck. I can see that while restoring VM, it copies snapshot to storage account for few seconds and deletes after restore. I'm confused,from where i need to copy. If you have rough code snippet, can you pls share?

Suppose if we want to get an Instant Restore.....how can we restore that?...here in this vedio, the only restore point was "snapshot & vault".....

@PaddyMaddy26 Год назад
Thank you for your inquiry. We offer online courses through Udemy and RU-vid, so while we do not offer offline training, you can find our courses at the links above. You can also contact us at trainings@memcourse.com for any specific course coupon needs. For Instant Restore, we recommend using the snapshot and vault restore points. These restore points allow you to quickly restore your data within minutes. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at trainings@memcourse.com. Thank you.

Hi Maddy For restoration of vm from backups we need a staging storage account . For this can we use existing storage account which is in same region or we need to new storage account of same region . If we are ok to use exisitng storage account will it overwrite any other data which exist in that stroage accout during restoration process
@PaddyMaddy26
@PaddyMaddy26 3 дня назад
Hello KumariCh-de1uc, Thank you for your comment. In order to restore a VM from backups, you can use an existing storage account that is in the same region as the VM. However, it is important to ensure that the storage account has enough capacity to accommodate the restored VM. Using an existing storage account for restoration should not overwrite any other data that exists in the storage account. The restoration process will only affect the specific files and data required for the VM restoration. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your understanding.

@@PaddyMaddy26 enough capacity means? For example if the vm has 2TB os and data disk. Storage account should have this capacity. If yes can you please specify where we need to define the size while creating storage account.
