The B-17 is iconic in American World War II history; few other
aircraft are associated with so much human drama. In this video,
Colorado author and speaker Fred Martin gives us the history of one
B-17, "April Girl", from manufacture, to little-known stories of
delivery to England across the North Atlantic, to her 111 missions
over Europe. These are real stories of a real aircraft and real people
the author has known in Colorado, including a pilot, a flight
engineer, a tail gunner -- and Bill Roche, long-time Museum visitor
and B-17 waist gunner. "April Girl" always brought her crews home
safely until she, like many other planes after the end of the war, was
sent to her ignominious end in an Arizona salvage yard.
