The only two flying B-29 Superfortresses in the world take to the skies together at the 2017 EAA AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, WI. This is Doc's first visit to Oshkosh after a lengthy restoration, and the first time two B-29s have flown together in decades. Unfortunately the aircraft did not fly in close formation.

Something I thought I would never see in my lifetime. Bravo to the crew and Volunteers for Doc and Fifi for their dedication that allowed this awesome sight today!

I would rather see an airworthy B-36 - - I might even settle for an XB-70.

while it would be awesome to have a flying XB-70, since there is only 1 aircraft left in existence it will never happen.

Mr. GeforcerFX cost à billion of dollars to be airworthy àgain. Utopia. In near future France Will sold Mirage F1 to à private company used for agressors like A4 Hunters and alphajets

Thanks to the dedicated men and women who have helped put these 2 great old warriors back in a condition to fly so that the younger generation can see what was done before computers as we know them were available. Again thanks to all that gave time, blood, sweat, tears and money to make this event happen.

B Brut Someone said it took 10 years and $6 million dollars to put "Doc" in the air. A great part was to make him airworthy. The FAA is picky about planes that are going to fly. Understable.

It was awesome being there for the BOMBer demonstration on Tuesday. FIFI and DOC join 16 B-25's a B-17 and WWII fighter planes in the air. They then perform a 20 minute bombing raid complete with huge explosions! Most of the Bombers were flying in formation, it was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

They should do a Korea recreation and have F-86 Sabres or F-80 Shooting Stars fly with them.

Amazing sights and sounds. Who'd have believed there'd be two B29s flying again? Congratulations to the team behind Doc for getting her in the air again.

It's a great thing to see but also kind of sad. Once there were thousands. Over 4000 B-29s were built. At peak sortie rates, their formations covered the sky and there were always B-29s in the sky all day. Today, two flying together is the most you'll ever see.

This is great! I wish there were just 10 seconds of good audio of them both flying over without some yahoo talking over it. I just want to hear it and imagine what 50 or 100 of them would have sounded like together. Just one pass without any other sound...... Thanks for posting this - I know there's nothing you can do about it.

They are beautiful. But, they were designed as implements of war. Could you imagine being a Japanese civilian, just trying to live among the horrors of war, and listening, looking up and seeing 300 or more of these bombers coming over your city, and all you could would be pray that your city wasn't on that day's target list. 300 bombers, or more, flying overhead. Just wow.
@chrisjohnson4666
@chrisjohnson4666 6 лет назад
Gary C I read somewhere there were at times 1000 bomber raids lasting hours literally steel rain

Over Japan? Didn't happen. Over Europe, no doubt, but the B-29 wasn't used in Europe. From Wikipedia. August 1945 began with further large-scale raids against Japanese cities. On the 1st of the month, 836 B-29s staged the largest single raid of World War II, dropping 6,145 tons of bombs and mines. The cities of Hachiōji, Mito, Nagaoka and Toyama were the main targets of this operation; all four suffered extensive damage and 99.5 percent of buildings in Toyama were destroyed. The cities of Imabari, Maebashi, Nishinomiya and Saga were attacked on 5 August. These raids had also been preceded by propaganda leaflets and radio broadcasts from Saipan warning that the cities would be attacked.

MY bad in Japan there were a few 1000 Plane raids including escorts I believe 400ish were most B29s at once...
@GaryMCurran
@GaryMCurran 6 лет назад
From that Wiki, the earlier raids were 100 or so, and by late 1944 and 1945, the average was 450 or so per raid, for the larger raids. But, also, many of those raids were multiple targets, so you might only have 75 or 100 bombers over any one target. The point of all of this, though, was looking up, hearing anything more that 25 or so bombers, and just realizing it meant you were about to get your asses kicked, again!
