Almost 50 years later, still an amazing aircraft. By comparison, the Wright Flyer would be 51 years old when the first B-52 was delivered.

They wear helmets in case they have to eject. You get use to helmets over time. At altitude they can take turns wearing headsets. It is pressurized to 8 psi until you go to war mode then it is lower. the screens re from the EVS system for low light and infrared TV. They don't use them now as low level flying is not done now; but they have aircraft data displayed. People are surprised that there is a lot of crew coordination going on all the time. My B-52 time 4,500 hours.

+Petersen Kwan Thanks. There are fancier airplanes out there; but I'll still go with the B-52. It works and is hard to shoot down if the game is not making us sitting ducks. The B-52 does not need backup when it goes somewhere like other new airplanes that break all the time.

+Ted Taylor B-1B received a complete avionics and cockpit overhaul including new color LCD screens, new computers, and much more. Even flight deck received new color displays. They also added capability to carry JDAM, WCMD and other intelligent munitions, they even got towed ECM decoy. Can you tell me why B-52 do not received such new screens for flight deck and got only one new screen on weapon operator's station to display video from new targeting pod? Also i know that B-52 is now capable of delivering JDAMS and WCMD but why the cockpit was not changed as much as it was in B-1B? And can you explain what "NOT IN GPS MODE" means? Is it a situation where INS operates alone without help of GPS?
@ted3020
@ted3020 9 лет назад
+macieksoft The Air Force wants to get rid of the B-52 so they skimp on upgrades and software. It still gets the job done just like the A-10. I've never heard of people crapping their pants hearing a B-1 or B-2 is coming. They have when they hear about a B-52. The INS is very accurate especially if the GPS was jammed. Read the stories about the B-1 or B-2 and their real success rate.

Such a piece of history. I'm 68 and I remember watching these take off out of Tulsa . Watching the wingtips fly up while it's still rolling down the runway

You edited out the best part, the engines revving up to full throttle.

Such distinctive engine noise. I will never forget seeing them fly all day everyday during basic and the Security Police Academy

Awesome video. What is the normal cruising altitude for an airplane like this? Also without the pressurized cabin, do the pilots have portable oxygen tanks if they need to leave the cockpit to say, go to the bathroom?
@ted3020
@ted3020 9 лет назад
+WindowSeatFlyer Th cockpit is pressurized. There are walkaround oxygen bottles just in case you did have a depressurization and needed to use them until you got to a lower altitude. The helmet is always plugged into the oxygen system in case you need it or at high altitude where one pilot has to be on oxygen.

+2Phast4Rocket I don't think they have color screens for low light TV or infrared TV. The contrast works well especially at night.

That's one ugly cockpit they got going on there. But boy oh boy you can fly that thing an a380 would be like flying a c172 for these guys. I bet they just walk into an airline and get their uniform no need for interviews. I want one of these guys as my pilot.

Why the oxygen mask and gloves?
@macieksoft
@macieksoft 10 лет назад
Its much better to prepare everything before takeoff. Wasting a time for searching you'r gloves and masks in air is not a good idea.
@ted3020
@ted3020 9 лет назад
+macieksoft We also had the visors down for takeoff in case of a bird strike. From experience the helmet is also worn on takeoff just in case the air filter disintegrates as soon as the A/C is turned on after takeoff. The fine particles do a lot of damage to the eyes.
@macieksoft
@macieksoft 9 лет назад
+Ted Taylor Did it ever happened in past? I never heared about air filter disintegration accidents. Is it some kind of disadvantage of AC system on B-52 or may it happen in other aircrafts?
@ted3020
@ted3020 9 лет назад
+macieksoft It happened on one of my qualification for pilot sorties. Just after takeoff when the A/c was turned on the cockpit immediately filled with particles. Those who had masks on had no problems. The others had retinal scarring. I had never heard of any other incident with the A/C.

Why are B52 pilots wearing helmets? It's like flying an airliner, isn't it?
@LukeHan2001
@LukeHan2001 10 лет назад
It's a HUD. They have like glasses in the visor that shows up like a Google glass. And sometimes a bullet can pierce the glass of the cockpit and hit the pilots. Helmets make things safer. And it's a combat plane, it's more dangerous
@AbigailPender

@VidurSky
@VidurSky 10 лет назад
Björn Lillpers nope. plus its an ACC aircraft which is the same branch as the f-16, so its basically a combat aircraft.
@LukeHan2001

No, for example, WWII had a bunch of pilots shot down by enemy planes and AA guns, leading them to have a BOX formation. Nowadays, there;s not much of dogfights and mainly these planes rely on stealth. but if they're ever caught alone, they;re screwed

@gmmakesmehurl
@gmmakesmehurl 3 года назад
@@geertrolf7871 I dont disagree at all on that! The US needs to remove all international bases and reform foreign policy. End of story. However, that doesnt mean remove national defense. Our military spending is INSANE because we have far too many bases in other countries we dont belong in.
