Well India is the Greek name for the land around the Indus, so I can see why Indians would want to change the name to reflect an internal culture and history.

I like how each conversation about India starts from the lens of casteism. which is not even Indian. I have a simple argument to make. India is an immensely diverse country so why do you see all of that through the lens of casteism. Why do you assume that people were oppressed everywhere? why do you think some people were not allowed to read holy texts everywhere? You have carefully crafted this video. Choose Ambedkar to focus on. conveniently separating all of the people into different groups even though Sikhs, untouchables and Hindus are the same. completely ignoring the fact that Victor writes the history. Why do you consider what the British wrote as the history of India is credible? Bharat is a name that every Indian wants. it is about connecting back with the thousands of years of continuous civilization. This is the last ditch effort of the western block to undermine India.
@zxasdfx

Not all indians want "Bharat" to be the only name. Most are ok with both the names being used, just like they are currently. And no, they are not "anti-India".

A bit disappointing how you repeatedly refer to them as “untouchables” instead of their preferred name. I mean once is ok as a “also known as” to demonstraste the discrimination they faced, but over and over again was a bit cringey, especially in a video that’s discussing correct name usage.

As soon as it comes to BJP and Modi, the lack of research or the bias of the white skin shines, Mod himself is from backward caste and so his most of his ministers, 1st Prez a Dalit/Harijan 2nd Tribal, and lol most Dalits still vote for Modi in general elections. India is complicated, you cannot become overnight expert, keep your opinions within margin of error or everybody will know you are a racist.

Narendra Modi is modi from Modh Ghanchi sub caste of Modh Baniya caste which makes him Vaisya by varna system but BC by caste system The reason he was given Prime ministership by BJP was Because the upper caste communities care about varna system and they vote for him. The lower caste people vote for him thinking he is from BC. Hindutva brigade will vote for him being thankful for his role in 2002. He is the holy trifecta of psudo-nationalist, self proclaimed establishers and protectors of hindu rashtra(hindu nation) in India.

@@Guaguanco11 - 1)you may want to define OBC by your terms, but neither central list nor state list or discrimination in vilages will reduce due to your agreement. Also Trader (Baniya) caste is in OBC list in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and even Karnataka. 2) Most of the social welfare schemes benifits the lower caste people. If schemes run efficiently, more people will vote. Home, gas, water, or even electricity schemes underwhelmingly benifits UCs. Hindutva brigade also voted for Vajpaye, but thats not enough to win. Radcliffe’s accent caught me off guard hahaha Edit: Bharat isn’t just used by Hindus in India. A lot of other religious minorities use it as well. I get what’s being said here but India as a name also represents ongoing “colonialism”, a name given by oppressors. The caste system was attempted to be abolished by the current gov and previous ones but it seems to have just gotten worse. I don’t agree with it. Most don’t agree with it. It’s a small minority that exists in every nation on different issues that seem to perpetuate it. Because India is a large nation in population, you’ll obviously see more examples of it. Rahul ghandi is an opportunistic politician that is part of the family that caused the Sikh genocide in 1984. So this guy talking about unity is hilarious to me. He is the epitome of division. He isn’t fit to be PM. If the opposition actually held up a decent opposition leader they may have a chance. I don’t like modi too much either but the corruption is rampant on that side as it has always been. It’s time for nepotism to end in the Congress party. It’s not healthy for one gov to have too much time in government. It emboldens them too much.
@gorabacha
@gorabacha Год назад
You are mispronouncing Bharat, horribly. By conflating Bharat with casteism and Hindu Nationalism you’re just pissing on Bharat’s long history and literary traditions. India is a western colonial name carrying the baggage of the worst aspects of colonialism. Instead of India, Hindustan should have been used. This is the name used by the former mogul empire and the lslamic world. Originally Hindus were simply people living in Hindustan regardless of religion. Thanks to the British, it came to denote a religious marker that people in Bharat have adopted

I asked a Hindu coworker several years ago and completely from my interest in etymology: Is there a name for her country other than India and Bharat? India is what the Europeans called it and Bharat while being a name originating in her country, may not be embraced by the non-Hindu minority. Her answer she whispered…Hind. It is my understanding that Hind is purely geographical as it is older than the religion, and Hinduism means faith of the people of Hind. I gathered that this however might be disputed given my coworker’s hushed tone. As the descendant of Europeans and aboriginal peoples of the USA, these things are…complicated.

Bharat is derived from bhrata a Sanskrit word and means brother same as in some Indo-European languages. When they mean brotherhood it's the brotherhood of lineage, with the division of castes and languages present in the country we all are never used to the religious or political camaraderie that is present in other parts of the world. Instead of putting the country forward by negating the past divisions it's being regressed to the unnecessary past.

I am Australian and lived in India for 6 years in the late 80s, early 90s: before the BJP was in power. I have ALWAYS heard India called by two other names by normal Indians themselves: Bharat and Hindustan. If you understand and read Indian languages, you will find Bharat prevelant. Truck drivers (who may not even be hindus) often write Mahan Bharat - Great India on their trucks. It is part of popular culture. India as a name is historically linked to what foreign visitors/invaders called it, linked to the Indus river and then further popularised during colonisation. Even Hindustan stems from the Persians/Arabs: The place of Hindus. Bharat may well be the only name that truly comes from the Indians themselves. I find it so hypocritical. India is the actual birthplace of hindusim and the culture is strongly linked to this (like Westerner's Judo-Christian bias) . Why on earth would it be a problem to name India something closer to it's roots - and a name already enshrined in their constitution? False debate.

I sincerely apologise that Indians used to call their land Bharat in around 500 BC, I now know its a Hindu name. We should have consulted Christians and Muslims on a secular name. Use of Sanskrit as a factor is equivalent to you blaming English for atrocities on Aboriginal

Whichever govt stays in power in INDIA, it's western media's agenda to keep criticizing it for nothing, distort stories about India to paint it in bad picture. Racism in the west is still 10X bigger problem in the west than Caste system in INDIA, India started taking steps against discrimination against caste system immediately after independence by taking positive discrimination measures but West has not taken any measures to fight against Racism.

Discrimination amongst different varnas(Castes) was a social problem not religious one, I couldn't find a single religious text which says to discriminate against different people. You can not say Caste system was wrong, it was discrimination amongst caste system. Immediately after independence, representatives from all social castes decided to fight against this discrimination, it was not only BR Ambedkar (as he wasn't a dictator) & multiple steps were taken to tackle this including reservation system, free scholarship, free financial support to start business, early promotion in government jobs, all called as positive discrimination measures. today because of these reasons these so called lower caste are more successful than so called upper caste. Debate is more on the side of excessive benefits being given to so called lower caste people that too from past many generation, which itself doesn't follow "RIGHT TO EQUALITY"
